David Sancious is a pianist / organist / keyboard player of reknown. Known for his contributions to the fields of rock, jazz, and fusion, Sancious gained prominence in the early 1970s as a founding member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band. He played keyboards and guitar for Springsteen's first three albums, "Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J." (1973), "The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle" (1973), and "Born to Run" (1975). Sancious' innovative and soulful keyboard work, as well as his songwriting contributions, helped shape the sound of these seminal recordings. After leaving the E Street Band in 1974, Sancious embarked on a solo career and formed his own band called "Tone." He released several albums under his name, including "Forest of Feelings" (1975) and "Transformation (The Speed of Love)" (1976), with regular releases until the present. He's also worked with artists such as Stanley Clarke, Peter Gabriel, Jack Bruce, and Sting, contributing his keyboard and composition skills to their projects. In Part 1 we cover a huge swathe of territory, from his current projects to his more recent work with Bruce Springsteen and a whole lot more.

He is very innovated pianist, playing with Eric Clapton he put this thing in his mouth and directed through his piano , it sound like a lead guitar in one music video, then another it sounded like a saxophone. It sounded great, in fact Clapton was smiling when David was playing.

I have been an ardent fan of David Sancious since 1975. I saw D.S. and tone a few times through 1976, in the Philadelphia, Pa, area. I also saw Dave play with: Jon Anderson 1982 Peter Gabriel 1986 Sting 1994. In 2013, a Version of "the Dance," appeared on a RU-vid post and I copied it....3 Times! It clearly to me listening to the bootleg, was a major tour de force, matching easily Forest of Feelings and Transformation ( Speed of Love). In October 2019, David, Ernie and Jerry met at Monmouth University New Jersey to record for the Springsteen Archives. Skychurch him no.9 was played, and another piece. Then there was a band interview, followed by an audience Q & A. Thats where I came in! I went up to the mic and then asked about "The Dance!" David didn't go into the details as deep as he did here, but he did discuss it! I asked if it could be released. Dave said he had hoped to perhaps one day... Well 4 years later, and now here it is! 38:00

I was there at the show at Monmouth University. I got David, Ernest, and Gerald to autograph my albums. (I had all but _Just As I Thought_...) I think I remember you asking about the unreleased album.

Really enjoyed the interview with David Sancious and love how you let him talk. He talks well. I have an LP of David's album "The Bridge" I would love to know if he ever plans to remix and release it for digital? I am a classically trained keyboard player and love to play R&B and Jazz. David has suck a wonderful style and I love his improvisation and feel it to my bones.

If Forest of Feelings is 1975, how would Dance be "recorded in 1974" as his third album?

I always wondered why that album sounded weird. Is it a half step too fast? i still have the vinyl and my turntable has pitch control
