Hilary Mantel and David Starkey discuss the shared subject of their new books - Henry VIII. Filmed in location in the Upper Bell Tower in the Tower of London: the scene of John Fishers imprisonment prior to being martyred.
Hilary Mantel is incredible. I reccomend her first book on Thomas Cromwell, 'Wolf Hall', to absolutely everyone. It may be difficult to read in parts, but in other parts it is effortlessly readable and wonderful. And the parts that appear at first unreadable are excellent on the second reading!
Well, the title of this should’ve been titled, David Starkey consumes all the oxygen in the room. Hilary barely got a word in, & when she attempts to, Starkey just talks louder & faster. I find him pretentious & obnoxious.
David Starkey's job is being a speaker as university lecturer and TV personality. Hilary Mantel is a writer. Not surprising that Starkey speaks faster and with more emotion. They both have their drawbacks; Starkey with the somewhat overstuffed verbiage and Mantel with the tempo.
