A lot of people complaining about David promoting his business, but everybody is listening. Cool.

Mr. Tubb obviously has a wealth of knowledge, skill, and experience. His presentation identified and described the features of his product in considerable detail. He gave quite a lesson on the what, why, and how of building a great firearm. Thank you, Mr. Tubb.

He can demonstrate the validity of what he is saying. Put this on your favorite places, and refer to it often. He sells the stuff he designs because there's nowhere else to get it. If you want his results, do what he does. He is being totally transparent, and he is willing to share his knowledge with everyone. He deserves to get a financial reward. You can get close to his results with a lot less effort, but he'll most probably beat you when you shoot in the same competition. He is a meticulous "tester" and a tremendous gift to our sport. If you've got the money for one rifle, and one scope/reticle, get his. I also lap my barrels (the old way), and I have seen repeated examples of accuracy increasing after lapping. Ex: a 1.5" gun turning into a 0.6" gun; a 0.9" now shooting 0.4". He's honest when he says "benchrest shooters do it their own way", and he's not intruding into that knowledge base, nor is he arguing with them. That's ethical integrity. The videos on the internet are almost all useless and misleading. LRSU puts out the very best stuff.

I know a lot of people are talking about "selling a product" and what not. But I don't feel that from David Tubb only due to the fact that he was experimenting and using this stuff long before he started selling the product. Also, any time I've seen him speak, it seems he's happier knowing people are even slightly better informed than before. He really loves shooting and sharing knowledge.

Far out. How's the experience, knowledge and technology there with Mr Tubb and his design. Wealth of knowledge, skill and uses all of it for the design of the product. He's playing 5D chess with firearms, while most of the rest of us are playing checkers! Thanks for the video.

I used a NECO "Fire Lapping" kit with my .300 Win mag A-Bolt Stainless Stalker and it DID lap the barrel (according to NECO's instructions) so that I found that the barrel did not collect copper nearly as fast as the factory finished bore. But the Tubb lapping kit or pre-loaded ammio IS just as good as the NECO kit.

I see your point but one could argue too that the reason John Krieger doesn’t recommend break in or cleaning is because he sells barrels but I know that’s not the case. These guys are all competitors, they wouldn’t give up even a slight advantage just to make a buck. Both are exceptional people and we’ll know for their honesty, sportsmanship and records. If someone doesn’t make it, I guess you have to make it yourself and if it works..sell it. I was infinitely impressed with Mr Tubb. He’s on a whole other level knowledge wise and so happy to share his wisdom. Thanks for watching.

It's not snake oil, I used to lap my bores if they weren't from the maker. The final finish method is a lot faster and about par with a decent lap. I just want to shoot the gun.

I see where your coming from, but the man has got more national (and world) championships than anyone one else. Not trying to fan boy, but I shoot his 115gr BN coated bullets in my 6 SLR and I've seen a significant increase in barrel life. My first SLR only ran about 1700rds before I pulled it. With the DTAC's, im over 2500 and theyre still zinging at 3000fps + with 4831SC and 4350. Hard to not listen to the man.

Long Range Shooters of Utah, LLC I'm really not questioning his integrity. Just pointing out something that typically makes me raise an eyebrow with some folks. I'm sure the man knows his stuff. Have you tried his polishing system?
@talon0863
@talon0863 6 лет назад
Basically fire lapping is great except for it reducing the throat, which is obviously bad. The abrasive compound cuts the first part of the barrel the most and lessens as it travels down the barrel. You could however fire lap a big long bull barrel then cut back the breech end, re-thread and re-chamber. That way you have cut off the part that got eroded too much by fire lapping. Might be better just to do that with a used bench rest barrel though.

@charlesthomas7970
@charlesthomas7970 5 лет назад
@@Johnny-jr2lq I think you are going to like the Krieger barrel in SS, I had a M1A built with a Krieger SS heavy contour barrel. All I did for a break in was run 2 magazines of handloads with a reduced charge and a cleaning between magazines. I had a set of Final Finish 168 grain for break in and ended up never even loading them because it shot good, repeatable groups. I think the hand lapping done after the rifling is cut and the metallurgy of the stainless itself is a large part of how the break in went. I also had my barrel cold stress relieved.

I’d believe tubb hands down purely because of all his match wins and records, barrel maker says it doesn’t need breaking in, and then the guy the breaks all the records and wins all the matches with his barrels ‘broken in’. I’ll take experience over confidence any day. There all legends in there own game.

HELLO!! REPEATED QUESTION! What about using Bore Bright for initial bbl cleaning BEFORE firing 1st shots through it??? My gunsmith builds sniper rifles for the FBI & Special Opps teams & he swears by it. Also Bore Brights the chambers & throats before 1st lapping shots are made. Uses phosphor bronze brushes the cartridges diameter w a cotton cloth wrapped thinly around it coated in the RED Bore Bright & a drill to spin polish the chamber/throat but to NOT do that down the bore. Just hand rod the caliber brush w the cloth wrap & bore bright to polish out initial lands imperfections. WHATS YOUR OPINION??

@LongRangeShootersofUtah
@LongRangeShootersofUtah 6 лет назад
Depends on your air density (altitude, temperature, etc) In utah our altitude is such that we can get away with more so I have friends that have had success with 110 -115's in a 1:8 twist but most are trying to get a 1:7.5 at least. 1:7 are tough to find and typically need to be special ordered which requires a wait time. Use this stability calculator and see. You might get a small box or get a handful from someone and try them. www.bergerbullets.com/twist-rate-calculator/

Have a 1/9 Twist Savage 110PF in 223.. Used lapping compound like what Mr. Tubb is talking about when new. Then treated the barrel with a Moly process (Mrs. Moly), Shoot only Moly coated projectiles. Gun is weighted to 17 lbs and has a Canjar set trigger... With a tuned load this rifle shoots in the high one's to mid 2's from a rock solid micro adjustable front rest I attribute much of this to the barrel breakin and of course the tuned loads

I'm gonna get ate up for even commenting because I'm not qualified to have an opinion on this. But if the bullet is abrasive in the throats it is still abrasive in the rifling. The idea makes all kinds of sense, it really does. I just don't know that I would keep shooting these down the road or really shoot too many.

It does sound Like he is saying use what I make but he knows what he is talking about, you don't have to use his brand to do this. A old machinist told me before everyone just worries about bore break in on a barrel not the throat but wonder why the throat goes out after 600 rounds . The throat needs coated too,but easy at first.he said just run 10 to 20 lighter loads down barrel to break throat in. Like tubbs is saying if you run 2800 fps ,make it 2690 ,2700,2750 and give it a good easy coating on the fresh metal of the throat.

I look at his speel as if you want to shoot as good as me you gotta start with my stuff and then add a little of your own engineering. There isn't any of his stuff that will make your gun worse than before you start but you can easily overdo the final finish you gotta be pretty mechanically oriented to compete and be better than him. I don't think buying his product alone with a good shooting technique will beat him. I'm not sure anyone can use his gun and beat him until he ages more.

Funny how every guy that subscribes to "barrel break in" has their own way of doing it (and usually disagree with the methods used by other guys that push it). Not only do they fail to provide any data (at all) to support break-in as offering any advantage, but they can't even agree on how to do it (or what it supposedly accomplishes).

I keep hearing and reading about the ELR events and the "news" is always "good" and makes it sound like they're really popular, well-run, difficult and the "rules" very demanding but the reality is they're poorly-attended clusterfucks for "industry insiders", the "rules" as published prior to the event and the "results" differ dramatically in that the "rules" - and pretty much all the "reports" - imply its 3 for 3 required accuracy, miss the first shot and you're completely done all the way through the event, its all about "hits" and time is only a LIMITING factor and none of the "scoring" is based upon and encourages "quick hits" to get the "required" number of "hits" before "advancing to the next "stage" and then moving to the next target once three hits are made even though FIVE shots are available for the "2nd day" and "3 for 3" is only required to "qualify" on day one OR only qualified for a "world record" and if you "clear" a stage you're SMART to move to the NEXT and "save time" because there's a TIME BONUS that goes completely unmentioned in any of the "rules" I've seen. Just like the fact that no matter how many shooters show up at these "World Record" events, only 3 or 4 BRAND NEW "World Records" can be set. The World Record ALSO doesn't REQUIRE 3 for 3. It requires a "cold bore" shot hit and then a "second" and "third" hit that could come on the FOURTH AND FIFTH SHOTS and still be a WORLD RECORD. You're only GUARANTEED A "WORLD RECORD" BY GOING 3 FOR 3. IF YOU GO 3 FOR 4 SHOOTING A FIRST SHOT "COLD BORE" HIT AND THEN MISS AND THEN PICK UP THE THIRD AND FOURTH, YOU'VE GOT THE "WORLD RECORD" BUT YOU LOSE IT IF SOMEBODY GOES 3 FOR 3. AND WHAT'S LAUGHABLE IS THAT THE "WORLD RECORD" WILL "RETIRE" AT THE END OF THAT EVENT. THE NEXT EVEN WILL HAVE TARGETS AT "SHORT", "LONG" AND "EXTREME LONG" RANGES THAT WILL BE SLIGHTLY FURTHER OUT THAN THE PREVIOUS EVENT SO A WHOLE NEW GROUP OF WORLD RECORDS IS AVAILABLE. IN "THEORY" EVENTUALLY THE "SHORT" TARGET WILL BE "FURTHER OUT" THAN THE "MEDIUM" TARGET OF THE FIRST EVER EVENT WAS, BUT SINCE "ELC" (EXTREME LONG RANGE CENTRAL i.e. APPLIED BALLISTICS AND OTHER "INSIDERS" WITH SIGNIFICANT "INVESTMENTS" IN ELR SHOOTING TRYING TO MILK THE DYING "LR" AND "ELR" THING FOR ALL ITS WORTH WHILE ALSO TRYING TO "BREATHE LIFE" INTO IT) IS THE "SANCTIONING" BODY AND THE "ORGANIZATION" AND IS CLAIMING "PRIORITY" AS FAR AS "WORLD RECORD" EVENTS AND HAS CLAIMED/TRADEMARKED "ELR WORLD RECORD EVENT" AND IS LOOKING TO "SELL" ITS SERVICES AND ITS "PRODUCT" PUTTING ON EVENTS ALL OVER THE COUNTRY AND WORLD, AND THE ONLY "RECOGNIZED" AND "OFFICIAL" ELR "WORLD RECORDS" CAN/WILL BE SET ACCORDING TO THEIR "RULES" AND THE WHOLE "RULE BOOK" AND EVERY LITTLE "AMBIGUITY" IN IT ARE SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED TO KEEP AS MANY SUCKERS AS POSSIBLE BUYING "ELR" HARDWARE, AB "SOFTWARE" ETC WHILE ALL THE "INSIDERS" ARE BUSINESSES/INDIVIDUALS PROFITING FROM THE WHOLE "ELR" PSEUDO-FAD WHILE COMPETING AGAINST THEIR OWN "CUSTOMERS", THERE'S NO WAY IN HELL THE WHOLE MESS LASTS LONG ENOUGH TO GET ANY REAL "RECOGNITION" AND "STANDING' AS A SHOOTING SPORT AND NO WAY IN HELL THE NRA OR ANYBODY ELSE IS GOING TO SANCTION AN "OFFICIAL" NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP/RECORD SCENARIO BASED IN SUCH AN OBVIOUS BUNCH OF COMMERCIAL BULLSHIT AND WITH SO MUCH OF THE "SUCCESS" OF THE SHOOTING RELYING ON "TECHNOLOGY" AND WITH "RULES" THAT DON'T REQUIRE SOME ACTUAL MEASUREMENT OF SHOTS FOR SCORING. AS IT STANDS A "HIT' THAT GRAZES THE EDGE IS AS GOOD AS A "BULLSEYE", 3 HITS SCATTERED ALL OVER ARE AS GOOD AS A GROUP 1/10TH THE SIZE, A MISS DOESN'T "PENALIZE" YOU AT ALL UNLESS ITS A "COLDBORE" MISS, NO REAL "AMATEUR" WHO ISN'T A FRIEND, FAMILY MEMBER OR "EMPLOYEE" OF ONE OF THE "INSIDERS" IS GOING TO SHOW UP RISKING A ONE AND DONE SITUATION WHEN SPORT SHOOTING IS ABOUT COMPETITION AND THERE'S NONE POSSIBLE IF YOU ONLY GET ONE CHANCE TO FAIL AND THAT CHANCE IS YOUR FIRST "PLAY", THE NRA IS ABOUT LEARNING AND DEVELOPING AND IMPROVING MARKSMANSHIP SKILLS RATHER THAN A "MONEY GAME" AND "MARKSMANSHIP" IS BASED ON PRECISION WHICH IS HITTING WHAT YOU WANT TO HIT WHERE YOU WANT TO HIT IT RATHER THAN JUST HITTING IT ANYWHERE. AND OF COURSE THE WHOLE BASIS AND PURPOSE FOR DEVELOPING MARKSMANSHIP SKILLS AND BECOMING ACCURATE AND PRECISE SHOOTERS IS "CONSERVATION". THAT DOESN'T MEAN YOU GET NO MORE THAN X SHOTS TO GET Y "HITS". IT MEANS YOU GET X SHOTS TO SCORE AS MANY POINTS AS POSSIBLE, THERE'S A PENALTY FOR EVERY "MISS" OUTSIDE THE "BULL" BECAUSE POINT VALUES DIMINISH AND TO BE "PERFECT" REQUIRES "CLEANING" THE STAGE/TARGET WITH ALL "BULLS". YOU CAN SHOOT A "POSSIBLE" AND HAVE A "PERFECT" SCORE IN "POINTS" NOW THAT THEY'VE "EXPANDED" THE "BULL" IN SOME EVENTS AND THE FIRST RING OUTSIDE THE "BULL" IS A 9 INSTEAD OF A 10 AND BULLS COUNT AS 10 SO EVERYTHING INSIDE A 9 SCORES A 10 SO A "POSSIBLE" IS 250 PTS (EXAMPLE ONLY). BUT YOUR OVERALL SCORE CAN BE "PERFECT" AT 250 WITH NO BULLS AND YOU FINISH "LAST" BEHIND EVERYBODY WHO SHOT A "POSSIBLE" PLUS A SINGLE BULL OR MORE. OTHER EVENTS USE AGGREGATE SCORING AND ITS THE SIZE OF YOUR GROUP THAT ADDS POINTS TO YOUR AGGREGATE AND THE HIGHER YOUR AGGREGATE, THE LOWER YOU FINISH. THE BOTTOM LINE IS PRECISION. ACCURACY IS HITTING A TARGET. PRECISION IS HITTING IT WHERE YOU WANT TO AND "CALLING YOUR SHOT". THE OTHER INTERESTING THING ABOUT "ELR" SHOOTING IS HOW MUCH MORE DIFFICULT IT SEEMS TO BE WITH EVEN ONE OF THE VERY SMALL "CROWDS" THAT HAVE SHOWED UP AT THE FEW "ELR" EVENTS WITH ANY KIND OF "LEGITIMACY". THE WAY "ELR" SHOOTERS TALK AND TYPE ONLINE, 1500 YARDS IS "GRAVY" AND ALMOST TOO EASY. TOO CLOSE TO 1000 YARDS AND WAY TO FAR FROM THE "MILES" THEY'RE ALL BANGING STEEL AT OR "BUILDING" A RIFLE TO BANG STEEL AT OR ARE PLANNING TO BANG STEEL AT OR WILL BANG STEEL AT AS SOON AS THEY HAVE THE BUDGET FOR A BIG, BAD ELR "BUILD". REALITY MUST SET IN AT THE "ELR" EVENTS. AT THE 2018 WORLD RECORD EVENT DISCUSSED IN THE VIDEO, WHERE MR. TUBB'S SON-IN-LAW DID SO WELL, MR. TUBB HIMSELF WENT "0-3" AT 1500 YARDS. I'M NOT CRITICIZING HIM BECAUSE ONLY ONLINE "EXPERTS" WHO EITHER DON'T SHOOT AT ALL OR HAVE VERY, VERY "GENEROUS" RANGEFINDERS OR ARE USING "UNCORRECTED" GPS TO "MEASURE" THEIR "ELR" DISTANCES THINK 1500 YARDS IS "SHORT RANGE". SOME OR MOST OF THEM NEVER PLAYED FOOTBALL, EITHER. BECAUSE NOBODY WHO HAS EVER STOOD ON THE GOAL LINE AND LOOKED TOWARD THE OTHER GOAL LINE AND HAS PLAYED AND FOUGHT ON ONE OF THOSE BATTLEFIELDS INCHES AND FEET AND YARDS AT A TIME CAN "ENVISION" JUST WHAT 15 OF THEM END TO END LOOK LIKE. AND MR. TUBB CERTAINLY WASN'T THE LONE RANGER IN GOING "0-3" AT 1500 YARDS. IN FACT HE HAD PLENTY OF COMPANY. A "CHORUM", IN FACT. OUT OF 25 COMPETITORS, 13 WENT "0-3" AT 1500. GONNA BE REAL HARD TO GET MUCH INTEREST IN SPENDING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS AND THOUSANDS OF HOURS JUST "PREPARING" FOR AN "ELR WORLD RECORD" EVENT WHEN NOT ONLY DO YOU HAVE TO BE THE FIRST "PERFECT" SHOOTER TO BE "GUARANTEED" A "WORLD RECORD", THAT "WORLD RECORD" IS PRETTY MUCH MEANINGLESS UNLESS YOU "RESET" IT AT THE NEXT EVENT WHERE YOU'LL ALSO HAVE TO BE FIRST AND PERFECT JUST TO SET ANOTHER WORTHLESS RECORD A LITTLE FURTHER OUT THAN THE FIRST AND EVEN IF YOU'RE NOT ABOUT RECORDS (NOBODY WHO IS A TRUE COMPETITOR IS THINKING ABOUT "RECORDS" WHEN THE START COMPETING IF THEY DON'T HAVE GIANT EGOS THAT ARE GOING TO GET THEM MORE "BEATINGS" THAN "RECORDS") AND JUST WANT TO "COMPETE" BUT YOUR "COMPETITION" WILL BE OVER THE FIRST SHOT OF THE FIRST DISTANCE OF THE FIRST DAY OF THE FIRST EVENT YOU "COMPETE" IN. OF COURSE THERE HASN'T BEEN ONE "LONG-RANGE" EVENT TO DATE THAT HAS DRAWN "CROWD" THAT WASN'T AT LEAST 3/4 "COMPETITORS" AND NOBODY WHO DOESN'T MAKE THE SECOND DAY WHO ISN'T THERE FOR BUSINESS OR ON SOMEBODY ELSE'S DIME IS GOING TO BE THERE THE SECOND DAY. TO SEE WHATEVER PROFESSIONAL SHOOTER APPLIED BALLISTICS OR SOME OTHER "INSIDER" WIN AN EVENT THAT'S CONSIDERABLY DIFFERENT ON DAY TWO THAN THE "RULES" IMPLY.

If you're at that point, you're wasting time and money on a "last resort". You know the barrel is shot out you put a new freaking barrel in. If you're SMART you CHRONOGRAPH YOUR AMMO/RIFLE FROM DAY ONE, TRACK THE VELOCITY "TRENDS", USE THE DATA TO ALSO KEEP AN EYE ON THE RELOADING SIDE OF THINGS, DON'T PUSH MV AND PRESSURES TO THE "MAX" LIKE A MORON, DON'T PICK A BULLET OR BULLET BRAND TO "BUILD" YOUR RIFLE "ON", LEAVE YOURSELF PLENTY OF ROOM IN THE CASE TO ADD MORE POWDER TO GET VELOCITY BACK AS THROAT EROSION PROGRESSES TO KEEP YOUR COL AND THE "JUMP" TO THE ACTUAL RIFLING CONSISTENT AS WELL AS YOUR CHAMBER PRESSURES "CONSTANT", DON'T WAIT FOR THE RIFLE TO START "STRINGING" (THROAT EROSION CAUSES VERTICAL STRINGING AND NOT "EXPANDING GROUPS" WITH WINDAGE ALSO "GROWING" IRRESPECTIVE OF ACTUAL WIND CHANGES/CONDITIONS OVER SEVERAL "SHOOTING SESSIONS", USE CHRONOGRAPH DATA AND A "TREND" TOWARD LOWER VELOCITIES TO TELL YOU WHAT THE THROAT IS DOING, DECIDE HOW MUCH LONGER YOU "NEED" THE BARREL TO GO AND IF ITS REAL "SHOOTER" CONSIDER PULLING IT, REBARRELING TO BEGIN BREAKING IN/TESTING A NEW BARREL DURING PRACTICE AND THEN PUT THE OLD TUBE BACK IN FOR AN EVENT WHERE YOU KNOW YOU'LL NEED IT TO COMPETE AND USE POWDER CHARGE INCREASES TO GET THE VERTICAL ELEVATION BACK. AND KNOW THERE'S NO "LAST RESORT" THAT'S GOING TO "SAVE" A BARREL IN THAT CONDITION. BARRELS ARE CONSUMABLES. PERIOD. AND THERE'S ONE OTHER THING THE SMART AND SUCCESSFUL SHOOTERS DO. THEY DON'T LIMIT THEIR "PRACTICE" TO THEIR "COMPETITION RIFLE" OR EVEN THEIR COMPETITION CARTRIDGE OR EVEN A CENTERFIRE CARTRIDGE. YOU DON'T PRACTICE TO MAKE Y0UR RIFLE BETTER. YOU PRACTICE TO MAKE YOU BETTER AND THE FUNDAMENTALS OF MARKSMANSHIP ARE FUNDAMENTAL AND UNIVERSAL REGARDLESS OF RIFLE, CARTRIDGE OR "'RANGE". IF YOU CAN'T GO OUT AND SHOOT A GOOD, BOLT-ACTION .22LR RIFLE AS WELL AT 100 AS YOU CAN YOUR "COMPETITION RIFLE" AT 500 AND DO IT WITH OPEN SIGHTS ON THE .22, YOU'RE JUST PISSING AWAY YOUR TIME AND MONEY TRYING TO "COMPETE" WITH GUYS THAT GREW UP "PLINKING" WITH A .22 AND NEVER STOPPED.

Disappointing... the guy is so obvious that his ONLY intention is to sell his product and not give honest feedback.
