The Spectacular Spider-Man is an American superhero animated television series based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man, created and developed by Greg Weisman and Victor Cook. In terms of overall tone and style, the series is based principally on the Stan Lee, Steve Ditko, and John Romita Sr. era of The Amazing Spider-Man comic books, with a similar balance of action, drama, and comedy as well as a high school setting. However, it also tends to blend material from all eras of the comic's run-up to that point in addition to other sources such as the Ultimate Spider-Man comics by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley, as well as Sam Raimi's Spider-Man film series.

I wish this show had continued for the 5 seasons they had planned. I think by season 5 we would have seen the transition of Sandman from a villain to a hero as we saw in the comics.

Yeah, I am not a writer but I imagine a easy way to develop it could have been using the little girl he was nice to on this episode, maybe getting her on the cross fire between Spidey and some villians he is working with that dosen't care about the collateral damage and Sandman end up straigth up betraying his team to protect the girl and help Spiderman.

@peepsg not this version as far as anyone can tell. Though had this series continued, I'd be on board for a story about him finding out that he has a child that he probably didn't know about who came from an old flame either during or way before he turned to a life of crime.

The final scene hints at the appearance of Sandman in the future, but already on the side of good. But, alas, greedy copyright holders closed the series at the moment when it had just begun to gain momentum.
