Fun fact: Goliath had 4 brothers and David picked out 5 smooth stones before going to fight Goliath. One was for him and the rest for his other 4 brothers. He was 100% confident he would not miss his target… makes it that much more impressive and scary when you think about it.

Not surprising at all when you consider God gave Goliath into Davids hands.
@edwardchampion8891

It was a mismatch. David was light infantry and Goliath was super heavy infantry. There was no cheating involved. David used the weapon he was comfortable with and won. Goliath wasn't an invalid he was a killer and almost a super soldier who lost the duel.

Goliath was a giant, on top of that. Fighting giants in hand to hand combat is probably not a good idea.

nope i think goliath is not the meta he is tank while David he is adc. but the problem of this David was way more hours of gameplay compsred to goliath who just boldozer and intinidation tactics.

My say on this, it wasn’t exactly a gamble. I’m sure God gave him the aim for it, or at least he guided it. But we can never be sure.

People say its a mismatch because he brought a "gun to a knife fight" but that's not something i expect to hear if people have used the involved weapons before. Goliath was fully armor clad, bearing shield, javelin and spear. David had one shot to fell him and if you remember the story well, he actually runs toward Goliath, not away. No sane man would have bet on him to win and thats what makes it a timeless classic.

Goliath may have laughed at David, thereby letting down his guard for a moment. This little kid can't hurt me, he may have thought. But that right there would have given David the edge, to approach and let loose with the stone. A shephard's sling is capable of slinging a fist-sized stone at 100-150mph or even faster, depending on the length of the sling and the strength of the slinger. In any case, it's more than fast enough to completely crush a human skull, giant or otherwise. I've seen these things crush concrete cinder blocks at 50 yards, so a human skull would stand no chance. The Bible says the stone sunk into Goliath's skull, and that would definitely be accurate. He would have been dead before he hit the ground.
@RachDarastric2
@RachDarastric2 6 дней назад
No it did not describe him as running toward him, it described Goliath as spreading misinformation, David then fact checks Goliath, then David loads and fires his shot too quick for Goliath to even react. There was no charge.

In the bible the stone sunk in Goliath's forehead, it is between the eyebrows, above the nose. He fell face down. And David beheaded him with Goliath's own sword. 1 Samuel 17:49 And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.

what i love as a spear is the roman pilum which was like also the standard weapon for roman legionares and any other soldier in the roman army for the distance. because it was a physical wonder weapon. it was designed to penetrate that deep, that the pyramid shaped tip is fully into the shield or armor, making the enemy impossible to walk further with their child or in general and after that diable, they just attacked with their gladius. just epic :)

1 Samuel 17:40 He then took his staff in his hand and chose five smooth stones from the streambed and placed them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag, and his sling was in his hand. And he began approaching the Phi·lisʹtine. He had five stones. Earlier in the same chapter he told Saul (before his battle with Goliath) how he killed a lion and bear in close quarter combat. Saying "I grabbed it by the fur and struck it down." He knew how to use a knife or short sword if neccassary.

Sure he did.... Archeological evidence in Israel has proven the Philistines were more advanced than the Israelites. The Israelites made themselves the superior ones when in reality it was the Philistines. Philistine settlements were more urban, they made more refined pottery and conducted more international trade compared with the pre-monarchy Israelites. The Exodus is another prime example of what never occurred. Egyptians used highly trained, paid and revered tradesmen not biblical israelites. Then we're lead to believe that according to the Bible 1 million at a minimum wandered the wilderness for 40 years. Yet not one spread of any evidence can back this up. Yet evidence for tiny bands of Bedouin (20 or less) have been found.
@sgloobal2025
@sgloobal2025 9 месяцев назад
@@shepleonard8695there’s plenty of evidence for the exodus such as the fact that the Egyptian army mysteriously disappeared during the time period the Bible says the exodus happened.

A mythbuster like group took on the David and Goliath story in the early 2000's and they said a few things that will surprise a lot of people including Christians. In line with people like this man who point out how powerful slings were, they said that the most impressive thing about the story wasn't what he did. If David was as good as he claimed to be it wasn't even that difficult a shot (though it _was_ a difficult shot, it was perfectly possible) They said the most impressive thing was his age. David is believed to have been 12 going on 13 at the time of the battle. The second thing is the validity of something that I've heard pastors dismiss, and that's that Goliath was killed outright by the stone and not just knocked out. The Bible says the stone sunk into his forehead, killing him instantly. The group said that, believe it or not, this detail actually makes the story *more* believable, not less, and here's why. Normally a sling bullet or stone hitting the forehead bone _would_ just dent it and probably wouldn't kill the person outright, likely causing a skull fracture and a bad concussion but not killing them outright. However, if Goliath was in fact 9ft tall like the Bible says, he probably had giantism. The disease that causes people like that to get enormous ALSO has a side effect of making the bones in the skull _especially the _*_forehead_* bone thin as they reach adulthood. By the time a person with that disease reached 20 or so, their forehead is about 1/3rd as this as that of a normal human.

On the topic of what is considered "fair" in a fight, in Hank Reinhardt's "Viking Sword" video, he mentions that some reenactors complain about attacks to the feet being "unchivalrous." Really? Is that why knights had access to heavy sabatons, or sollerets, to offer substantial protection for the feet, because foot shots were disallowed in fights? Why not just go into battle wearing flip flops, then? Remember, if you find yourself in a fair fight, its because your tactics suck.
@skyereave9454
@skyereave9454 9 месяцев назад
With the amount of variables that go into combat, there is no such thing as a fair fight. The closest you can do is agree to a merciful stopping point. I think first blood duels are about as close as you can go as it settles the matter and both sides agree to walk away. Whats fair about killing after all?

‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭17:45‭-‬46‬ "Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. This day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcasses of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel." There was not a slightest amount of doubt in David's heart as to the outcome of that encounter - his trust wasn't in his sling as much as it was in the Almighty 😊🙏 Thank you Dash for your awesome entertaining videos! ❤️
