I'm using the Sweet Cream with either a Gretsch Electromatic, Fender Standard Strat or a Schecter PT Custom through a Vox AC 30 when I want just a little growl. It repros well and is touch sensitive between hard and soft playing. I considered both before buying. I have to say I like the Tone City, the price point is more attractive, it takes up less space and sound great.

To my ears the difference was almost imperceptible. Considering the Mad Professor Sweet Honey is more than four times the price of the Sweet Cream, I'd say David wins this round, and Goliath falls again.
@ToddMcKernan
@ToddMcKernan 8 лет назад
I'm listening in a very controlled studio environment so I can probably tell a little better than most. But even still its not "night and day". I do think the Sweet Cream sounds a little less dynamic, little more compressed. The Sweet Honey has more depth, maybe more dynamic range, more touch sensitive. But tonally I think they both sound awesome. I could see using either really. Well done sir! good shootout.
@thorwulfx1
@thorwulfx1 8 лет назад
That's the best sound (to my ears) that I've heard from a Mad Professor pedal. I often don't connect with the tones from that brand. That said, I couldn't see any advantage over the little Tone City pedal in terms of tone or rage of adjustment. They're nearly identical. The Sweet Cream seems to be the value shopper's easy choice.
@Markle2k
@Markle2k 8 лет назад
I pretty much agree. I thought the full drive was smoother on the MP pedal, but otherwise, the only difference would be the quality of the housing, jacks, pots, things that require some hands-on and time to assess.

i think if you would playing alone, sweet honey may sound better(it's got a bassy touch), but if you are jamming with a band, then Sweet cream might be the choice because the mid-range tone tend to shine through. And I also think Honey is more for recording and cream is more for live performance. but it's all personal. The point is I enjoy watching all these vs videos:))

hello hello hello, I was goin g to sell Tone City Sweet Creams ( got 2 of em), but no no: after Simble an before Looking Glass ( and also with Nobels O Dear 1BC) Sweet Cream is a slight breath of sharpness , tonally very well balanced: one of the best bass/mid/treb balanced pedals ever! : )

I have a sweet cream on my board, it's an amazing little peddle!! Real responsive when you dig in! I use a les Paul and next to my jhs angry Charlie for high gain, this pedal works perfectly as mid gain/indie sound with hum buckers! I'm struggling to get it of my board to be honest, for the price it's amazing! So thank you andertons for the videos that drew my attention to this pedal and also thanks for being my supplier!! Yeah, I use the Simble and TC El MojoMojo and Nobels ODR-1 for their bassiness, but paired with any of them the Sweet Cream is not too trebly, also the Mosky Silver MM works great as a substitute for Cream in that purpose, and it even has bass and treb control, other great Moskys are Crazy Tone and Silver Horse: great basses!

The Sweet Honey (SH) sounds more "transparent" but that also makes it sound slightly weaker that the Sweet Cream (SC). I am not a pedal snob at all, loving the SC here, the SH has a great sound, far more subtle, but price wise the SC definitely is the sweeter option of the two an I like the slightly more saturated sound. There is roughly £100 difference in price, but certainly not in sound.. Great demo though with some sweet playing..

I had a Sweet Cream a couple of years ago and sold it with a bunch of other stuff, due to needing cash and it having been of my board for a while. I should have kept it, but I can get another, which I will do. The Mad Professor one might sound a bit more responsive, but I use the Sweet Cream on one setting and step on it when I want a good drive sound. I have a fuzz face on my board to take care of cleanup/dynamic response. The Sweet Cream delivers for me at a great price point.

Hello, Pete!!! Cool video. Some (suggestions about) comparisons and info that I'm looking for: >> a ProCo R.A.T. distortion vs. a cheap version of it >> a Klon Centaur overdrive vs. a cheap version of it (maybe EHX Soul Food and/or even cheaper versions from other manufacturers) If Anderton's doesn't have any versions of the original legendary pedals, it can be average or expensive versions of them too, but please explain that the expensive version is supposed to be that category (or sub-category) type of pedal, with similar parameters, and how the parameters react/relate to each other (dependent or independent parameters, etc). ("tweakability") Cheers!!! Luke

No room for any diplomatic conclusion here. Tone City slays the Mad Prof. Even if you could say with a straight face that you liked the Mad Prof 3% better, the Tone City is still 300% cheaper. Even people who're in the "money is not an object" line of thought would feel ashamed to have put money towards the Honey. As for my main observation: The Cream actually doesn't alias as much as the Honey. That is impressive.

I think its a little bit unfair to compare a pedal to its made in china clone/circuit copy. What you get in a "boutique" pedal is also the knowledge that you support a builder that actually comes up with new designs and produces pedals in your own economical ecosystem. Everybody can clone an overdrive pedal component for component.

So this "well renown pedal maker" is a champ for undermining the very company whose intellectual property they were so keen to steal? You are, of course, entitled to your opinion but I do wonder if you realise the effort guys like Bjorn put in to developing pedals such as the Honey Bee / Sweet Honey and how little real revenue they earn from those pedals. The little guy ripping off a big corporation can be admired but a big(ish) corporation ripping off little guys turns my stomach.

bucketheadrox Are you suggesting that the Mooer clone pre-dates the BJB / Mad Prof design? Do either of those pedals (or Joyo, Valeton and many more) do anything new? My experience is they generally don't.. I'm concerned that low price and market saturation by far east manufacturers will make it increasingly harder for interesting and original designers to earn a living and great pedal developments may seriously decline.

Im looking for a tape delay pedal like the Strymon el capstan but more affordable! Any ideas? Also anyone here use the minifooger analogue delay? I know its not quite a tape delay but I like the sound of it.

TC Flashback Delay is a good one in my opinion. It´s very versatile and the tape setting is great. In fact all settings are good :D

Miles Dolding I recommend checking MXR Carbon Copy. It does its own thing but I find it very pleasurable. No tap tempo and all the fancy stuff but if you're in for the sound, Carbon Copy has it. You might want to check That Pedal Show for alternatives.
