2 bankrupt companies merging is not a recipe for success, usually a successful company gobbles up a failing company.

These media companies bet everything on streaming, only to find out the market will only support two or three services. They're trying to find the best possible terms for themselves in the inevitable mergers.

I agree, this is likely to be a ruse, but if it is true, it is not good news. Paramount has done to Star Trek what Kennedy did to Star Wars. We'd be going from the frying pan into the fire.

Zaslav is not there to save anything. He's there to lean the company and sell it. I guess in this case to merge it? You see this over and over with companies. Once it's done, a new person will come in to "build it again".

I think you've got it right here, EVS. NBCUniversal provides the same synergies and so much more than Paramount could ever hope to. Harry Potter and DC theme park rights are something NBCU would love to have ownership over. Regulators going to be a challenge no matter who they try to make a deal with, but NBCU is the choice with the best potential.

If Zaslav and WB wants to fix DC they need to do it top to bottom the same with animation. Them letting these people still run the brands and nobody giving a crap and despising it is not going to convince people to stupidly keep supporting it.

A 6 issue Star Trek/Green Lantern crossover titled “The Spectrum War” was released by DC comics and IDW Publishing. It was written by Mike Johnson with art by Angel Hernandez. Issue 1 went on sale July 8th, 2015 and the final issue hit stands on December 9th, 2015. A 144 page trade paperback followed on March 23rd, 2016.

The main thing I would hope for from a merger would be for idiots like Alex Kurtzman, Jar Jar Abrams, and Bad Robot to be forever banned from having anything further to do with Star Trek. I'm not really thrilled about crossovers. Generally different shows have different universes that are incompatible. For example, mixing Star Trek with Babylon 5, where the laws of physics are different (e.g. hyperspace vs subspace) and deflector screens don't exist, doesn't make much sense.

The geek in me would love to see franchise cross-overs like Star Trek & DC if done with proper IP respect. The freedom loving capitalist in me knows that monopolies and elitist collusions lead to corporatism, the enemy of capitalism (fair market meritocracy) and freedom.

Suicide Squad:Kill the JL, Harley Quinn show, fake anime Superman show, ugly Batman series, TTG on Cartoon Network, and Arrowverse series helped destroy the brand. Theyve attracted a bunch of weirdos who dont buy stuff and support it yet whine and defend them online. They tainted the brand at the maximum. This is not even including the comics and DCEU in theaters. Heck they even killed the DC Superhero girls brand which mothers and their daughters enjoyed on RU-vid by rebooting it for CN making it look entirely different.

Even if this were true, back when Paramount and Viacom were associated but separate companies, it was Viacom under the mantle of CBS that had control of Star Trek. Everything Star Trek from the Kelvin Timeline movies forward has been licensed by CBS to Paramount, with a proviso of being significantly but not entirely different than the previous iterations of Star Trek, from the OG to Enterprise. Who knows if there's been any remixing of that circumstance since the reunification of the overall company, but I can't imagine them selling off the crown jewel of Viacom/CBS/Paramount to a company that's on the verge itself. One of these days all this corporate debt is going to actually come back around and destroy one of these mega-corps, and that will be one fine day!

So far Zaslav is doing fantastic, the problem though is the creatives behind these works as well as the merch managers. They have not been capitalizing on many brands for at least a decade. They relied all their time on their top IP Batman, Bugs Bunny, Scooby Doo, Tom and Jerry thats it. Everything else has been far and few inbetween and next to none.

Yea the man isn't in his position because of any DEI hiree practices, he knows what he's doing and has a proven track record of success in running a company. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he's consolidating information about how much each IP is actually worth, what's making money and what isn't, and is going to be selling off at least a 1/3 of their IP's and cutting the fat.

Sure it’s easier to just sell Everything under the umbrella/parent company. I fee many of these properties would be better handled if they were sold to a smaller investor that actually loves the property. GI Joe comics is now on it’s what…4th publisher?! And the toy rights have been given to a slew of studios

Maybe they did an adaptation of Star Trek V, but I don;t know. Also, I hope Universal Studios chooses to remain separate. The last thing we need is another company doing Disney actions like we did with Disney.

Paramount's not in a position to merge with anyone, though they're on more stable footing than WB. Paramount has a lot of failures, but they don't have exclusively failures. They've had successes, which is a lot more than WB or Disney can say. Merging with WB in their current condition seems like a dumb move for Paramount. That's just going to saddle them with more bills.

Unfortunately, i think the opportunity for a healthy industry has passed. 😢
