Always great to watch your breakdowns. I have to “turn down the kids” when you go into math stuff, but then I just watch it a few times. Keep it coming👍
Thank you so so much for all of your tutorials, easily some of the most valuable fusion info on RU-vid. I’ve been going crazy trying to figure out a better way to use a FAR MORE PRECISE depth map image sequence I generated using stable diffusion within resolve. I had been using curves to achieve the depth isolation and it was just too finicky. But the custom tool fix is just perfect by comparison. Keep up the phenomenal content!
Love your deeper dives into ways to use these tools, ways that are more than the usual cookie-cutter tutorials. 've also have learned a lot about basic compositing using the Boolean and custom tools thanks (so much!) to Simon Ubsdell, whose RU-vid channel has many in-depth videos explaining Fusion theory including how to achieve basic blend modes via basic expressions in the custom tool. So helpful to know, as you do in this tutorial, how to achieve the same effect using alternate or different tools, each of which of course have their own advantages. Again, love the deeper dives! Mike
Agreed. Please don't get discouraged with lowish viewercount, the people who are watching your videos are really appreciating these deep dives that are rare to find.
Great video! This update looks really promising, but I hope that they make the surface tracker available in Fusion eventually. Also the magic mask (especially the new object mask) would be really helpful in some of my compositions.
Indeed. And when they are on it they could also provide the object removal and maybe the facial tracking from the face refinement FX. Feel free to request on the BMD forum, there are probably some related posts already.
Yep, I don't understand BMD's policy - instead of making Fusion more powerful they leave the functionality to the non-compositing interface. I would not be surprised if it comes to Fusion later, but even in that case only an utter moron would not announce this as a roadmap to create some buzz. This attitude of surprising users rather than creating reliability was the demise of Eyeon, seems like BMD steers their software into the same swamp.
This is great, lots in here that wasn't widely publicised, thank you! Btw, could you just use the bar between high and low threshold values to drag the selected depth in your MatteControl?
You mean where I use the custom tool? No I think that would be different than subtracting and getting the absolute value. But there are other ways to get to the same mathematics.
Hey could you share a minimum apple Mac studio configuration required to run fusion smoothly , considering the work included are graphics in advertisements , short films and passion projects
Hey there, thanks for your efforts. One question: How can I add the depth map node in fusion standalone?? (I am testing on Beta4 currently) So far only could use it in resolve color tab. Greetings from northern germany btw :P Ps: I hope they push Fusion more, it could be so much more and even a greater competitor to nuke!
@@VFXstudy Alright thanks, then Ill generate and export the depth pass. I wonder if they do this on purpose to force people going away from the standalone..
@@BlackPantherElite I think they compile Fusion Studio alongside Resolve with the native Fusion features. While they brought almost everything from Fusion Studio over to Resolve, I don't see much effort to bring Resolve stuff like the Resolve FX in the other direction. I am not sure about forcing people, I think it's likely a matter of development effort and priority.
👽? No, probably just spent a little more time in the software... Start simple and get some results, then take it from there. No need to start with custom tools when you are learning the basics 😋
You can use index do get the current point number. So yes. But for audio maybe you want to look at the suck less audio modifier to read amplitudes from wav files. Or the midi modifier if you have midi data. Don't think that can be easily applied to polygon data though...
Thanks for the very descriptive and informative video. One question. What is the difference between Fusion inside Davinci Resolve 18 and standalone Fusion Studio?
Hi Bern... Do you know if the upgrade from FUSION STUDIO 17 to 18 is FREE ??? I can/t find in website BM download, is only BY. I have 17 STUDIO (dongle version) ?
@@VFXstudy hmm probably im not that good at fusion... so just a Merge with green output from Depth map and yellow - from whatever i want as the background?
@@imiy mask input is generally blue, unless you use the new merge operators. So just merge foreground over background, connecting the mask to the blue input to mask the foreground. Feel free to check out my free Fusion Beginn course on my website as well 😀
I don't understand your full comment from the translation. But if you are saying that the duplicate node is not new, you are right. I only mention here that there are additions to the existing tool. Gain, Blur, and glow sliders were added to the tool in the v18 release. If possible please write in English.
