Anyone else have the C++ issue where x86 file is missing, which was caused by me rolling back windows 11 to windows 10 (everyone online seems to have the same C++ x86 issue after doing a rollback). I'm just trying to figure out what the fix is, or what problems i will have (Davinci Resolve Studio 19 seems to be opening regardless for now)
Hey Alex, that's all well and good. But have you noticed that if you change the frame rate of a source clip to match the timeline (ie: 25 to 23.98) the audio doesn't slow to match the picture and it all goes out of sync in the timeline. DaVinci has been like this for ever I think. On Avid, I know I can change the source clip frame rate and the audio follows to match (at a lower pitch, so no pitch correction). I sort out the pitch change later using an audio editor. But at least it remains in sync! This is a major bug in DaVinci (now vers 19) that I really wish they would fix. When you go on the forums, it seems that no one seems to understand the problem.
Alex, I used Premiere Pro for 10 years; studied with Vashi Nedomansky and Christine Steele. Also, I edited about a half dozen documentaries with it. But then, I switched to DaVinci Resolve. Anyone who uses DaVinci already knows it has a steep learning curve. I took a beginner to advance course and it took me 9 months of confusing, frustrating learning and practice to learn it. The reason I switched was DaVinci is so much more precise and provides (once you learn it) a more streamlined workflow. I was impressed by the way it can isolate elements and allow the editor to tweak them. But this new version 19, and the Color Slice feature takes that to an altogether new level. Thanks for your videos. They help me a lot with the nuances of the program. I will continue to follow and support your channel...best.
Except R19.0.1 studio appears to have a GPU memory leak.. which slows down some grading tasks to ridiculous when the GPU ram gets to be 100% full. This has been seen on both windows and Mac, but is kinda farcical when the Mac audio can allocate 48Gb of ram to the GPU to be filled to 100%. So revert back to R19b6 if this affects you.
Hi Alex. I've just bought Studio. I'm mainly interested, for now, in trying to upscale and smarten up some old video camcorder footage. Have you any tutorials that might give me some guidance please. I see in this tutorial in the film mode it's possible to alter the grain, so I'll give it a try. You baffle me at times, but fantastic watching you. 👌
I am suddenly unable to import media into Davinci 9 (free version) that up to today has not been a problem. I can open previous projects, but am not allowed to import new media. What am I missing? Davinci's tech support is unavailable to free users, and the forum does not allow non key holders access to post questions. This channel being my favorite source for learning Davinci, I hope someone here has an answer or suggestion for me.
Can you allow to make Mask value more than 2.0? I love to use Quarterly FX from your library, but I can't always make it look good because I can't go beyond mask 2.0 value. I'm not in the middle of the frame but on the side, so when I try to use one of the sides it doesn't always work well. Let me know if there is a workaround. But other than that - awesome plugin. But I also use V2 non stop for Zooms and Whips because of a habit and ease of use.
@MrAlexTech Is there an Update on this topic? I've seen a Video where the performance of Davinci Resolve on Copilot+ Notebooks is still far off the performance of the rotten fruit devices. I'm currently looking for a mobile device where I can actually work with (4k log-footage, color-correction, titels, a few effects...). Anything in a 1000 to 1500 € price range?
There will be! Waiting on a device to arrive (literally meant to be here today!). I do also have a Surface Pro though. The short answer is this... they're pretty okay! Timeline cutting is solid, really smooth 4k, shop it together no issues, the GPU is not particularly powerful so starts to stumble abit with effects, also rendering is a little on the slow side at 4k (around 50fps). It's very, veeeery comparable to Apple M2 Air performance (I only have the M2 to compare to, or a M3 Pro - Pro is faster). But, it does feel there's more performance to come. Resolve does slightly weird things (like Noise Reduction is slow for no reason - like really slow). It feels like there's alot more optimisation to happen from Blackmagics side. Example: Magic Masks run quite well as using the NPU, but alot of the other ai features don't use the NPU, so run a bit meh. Interestingly, the X Plus and X Elite are very similar as it's only the core count that differs. Media Engine is the same so cutting feels identical on either (10core vs 12core - there is now an 8 core X PLus which i havent tried yet) Overall, the Surface Pro is a lovely machine. Thin, small, light (ipad sized!) but with a usable OS (unlike iPad ha) and can do some simple cutting without too much issue. Just needs Resolve to improve a bit more. The one I'm waiting for is the Galaxy which has the most powerful X Elite available.

Size and weight doesn't matter too much for me, as I have to carry KGs of equipment anyways and don't travel too often via plane. I'd love to have a Notebook capable of running DVR and Lightroom, color-correct display. Everything else is optional.

I am on the studio version (have been since DR14) with a Mac Studio M1 chip machine. Have you made a video about this? Always stress quite a bit making any new upgrade.
I don't understand this... I don't, literally DO NOT have AV1 option in codec drop down menu. How to enable it? DR version 19 and ofc I have amd gpu and 4080

Good tips! I use the source tape all the time as the first cut using the Speed Editor. At this point, after months of using this workflow, I cannot imagine myself going back to cutting all the videos from the timeline.
I'm not sure why the 13 has dual USBC40gbs and the 16 only has one? The previous gen 16 had dual thunderbolt, as a creative professional that's a deal breaker unfortunately
