Hi Alex, can you please show me how you do this podcast? Me and my brother have a podcast (we are in two different countries) and we're trying to do exactly the same editing process. Can you please show me how you do these podcasts?
We need micro panel with LCD buttons like stream deck and work with both color and editing tabs Just a button to switch a profile from colour to editing tab and vice versa.
This makes me think: I love the feel of real sliders and buttons when making music...because it makes me start to use my "ears" rather than staring at levels and settings and such. I wonder if it's the same for a color panel, you start to use your "eyes" more - rather than stare at the scopes and values. 😁 I'm going to have to try this one out!
What a great summary! I love love love the speed editor and I have no doubt this would step up my color grading game. I hope they add a micro fairlight panel next!
I love me some physical equipment compared to a digital interface. I come from a traditional television background so this just makes me feel more at home. Love how they added a "Auto Colour" button lol. $650 panel for one button to negate it all xD
The functionality of the new one is better BUT it is noticeably much much lower quality. Every knob and dial feels floppy and cheap compared to the old micro panel.
can't wait to get panel, BM hitting home runs once again....well apart from auto colour button, maybe can be re-mapped to something else in future, say "order me a coffee from Uber Eats"
Yes I think so, I've seen others on RU-vid doing that before. You can use the iPad as a second monitor so you could drag the scopes on there. Or you could use it as a clean feed output via the remote monitoring
This is a really cool piece of kit. But for knocking out one episode every couple of months or so, it may be an expensive toy, especially as my latest masterpiece hasn't even hit 0.1k views. But then my drone at twice the price and that only comes out to play every month or so. Just got to make sure she-who-must-be-obayed never learns how to google prices of stuff. BTW What magic secrets did Darren tell you to make your talking-head studio stuff pop so well? Or is it mostly down to real-world lighting and then you doing a little bit in the Colour Page. Got to admit I really like the look with the punchy colours an shizzle. Hope you have a good time in Amsterdam, and if Sebastiaan from Red Frame Tech says hello, please say hello for me. Saves me having to spam him with email.🤣😂
I did meet Sebastian!! Great dude, we had a good natter 😄 Yeaaah I agree. It has to be useful for you to make it worth it, but If you do alot of colour, it's a great tool. Yeah it's mostly the lighting, with just a little bit of tweaking in Resolve. I should do an updated lighting video at some point 😄
@@MrAlexTech Glad to hear you both rubbed shoulders. And as for your studio stuff, it’s interesting to know that lighting is king when it comes to image quality.. I hope your career change into RU-vid Land is going well. 😀
Background: I'm a video editor but I'm getting into color so I've only been using davinci for the last couple of months and color grading for a few weeks. That being said, I'm pretty happy overall with it. I've had mine for about a week and I really, really like it. It's small but really powerful and well built, and it has MOST of the features that the big boys have. It's intuitive and easy to learn. Working with wheels is just miles faster and better than using a mouse and keyboard. I think the idea is to have DITs and colorists be on set to actually see the design live. This can easily fit in a bag. There IS a learning curve, and the instruction manual is pretty useless...they need to just put out a keyboard map on one page showing what every key does...but it's been pretty easy to figure out what's what just by guessing. Excited to fully learn it and get my muscle memory under my fingers and really up my color game.
This is an awesome video. 🔥👏 It answers so many questions, the comparisons and how to’s are so helpful and the footage of the panel is really nice too. Thank-you for linking to our video. I knew we should have included a dog in ours! Dope! Next time.
Does it do away with that terrible limitation of the speed editor where you can’t program the damn thing to do anything else with your computer unless you’re using da Vinci resolve?
Yesterday I also tried it at the BMD experience day in Amsterdam, I loved it and I think I will get one eventually. Also saw your presentation, very neat but I think the cutpage only works well with the speed editor (which I also own). Wanted to hi but saw you where quite buzzy. Thanks for this video, it makes even more clear I want one ;-)
got it last week. I will say 2 things I dont like. one, I wish the top knob labels were backlit, and number 2 - as you mentioned, I was actually quite surprised that the ipad version didnt work properly, which I never heard mentioned. they made the thing with a slot for the iPad yet it doesnt work yet. personally I think they shouldve held out until it did, or at least make it VERY Clear it was still in the works. . I spent an hour trying to figure out WHY it wasnt working until someone on a forum mentioned it. Lastly my bluetooth ALWAYS needs to be "forgotten" and set back up. never reconnects. Tip time: Hold the two shift buttons down and rotate the top left knob (Y lift)to adjust the backlight strength (found out by accident). also both shift keys and "offset" gets you to log. Thanks for the review, as always top notch. have a great Sunday my friend.
Yeaaah! I think it's purely because they aren't allowed to publish 'beta' softare on the app store (I may have also read that on the forum!). But yeah I agree, it should be made nice and clear. Oh that's interesting. Mine got confused when jumping around devices but was okay when reconnecting to the same device. I figured my issues where because I was trying to jump between 3 devices in a short period of time purely for the filming of this video. Oh great tip on the backlighting too!
a lot of times we saw how ppl just spin this circles to show how some instruments are changes at color page, but i NEVER SAW smb really Working on IT from start to Finish result using this panels, to see is it reaaly so better as ppl advert it?) looks like SAME as mouse+keyB)) just click click and hotKeys, will be same as Panel....
@@MrAlexTech yea, i understand that reault same. Im just about how fast it will be on real project from start to result) Feels like same, cos you dont need to switch buttons to jump from temperature to gain rings and so one, you just click on mouse and use keys) But anyway, this BM panels looks interesting and good)) Even if its only for home probably) cos if you have macbook, easier to grab just notebook and work anywhere, instead grab additional panel))
Thanks. You just saved me a ton of fussing - by mentioning "auto colour". As someone with different colour vision in each eye I'll never be a colourist so that option does a good enough job for me.
It actually dose but theirs no functionality to switch over to the hdr pallet yet tho tbh I think they actually are going to do it just missing some functionality but it's mostly their 😅
How often do you shake yours Alex? 🥴 I found that so funny lol. I have ordered the panel but its out of stock and has been for a while now but I am hoping it will arrive soon! The auto button should be omitted or able to change to be honest.
@@MrAlexTech Nice, thought I was the only one 😂 Was having lots of issues with 19 on Mac OS, installed latest, no more issues. 19 hates Ventura FYI, and since my shinny new color panel only works with 19, I was a bit annoyed. Also, have you noticed the speed editor powers on automatically without engagement on 19?
honestly if you dont think youll ever get one you probably dont need it. if youre just doing one offs for personal projects you can get by without it.. easily. but if you have a client who likes to pixel fck everything it will for sure be a wise investment.. specially for traveling.
Yeah I agree. With the exception of 'if you just really like color'. I can see people getting one just because it is much 'nicer' to use and they love doing color, even if they don't really 'need' it.
re the power button. A lot of us have been asking for that on the Speed Editor for years. Also those of use who use these things a a desk via USB also wan to be able to turn off Bluetooth but again BMD are deaf
well, as much as I love BM for bringing prosumer gear to us poor people, I cant figure them out sometimes. took quite a bit to bring the Pyxie so maybe they'll start making power buttons ha ha..
