I think it's how before the large tentacles come up, it's playing battle music, like they still might have a chance even after losing people. Then the dead silence. The guttural roar. And the existential dread of the music coming down to smash all hope, the terrified yells of sailors knowing all is lost fleeting under the organs wail. These movies have some seriously dark undertones beneath the wackiness.
IKR?! I felt so bad for all of them! They truly didn't deserve this kind of fate! Man. This installment was the most emotionally heart wrenching of the whole series, between Will and his dad, Becket, and losing Jack. I remember leaving the movie theater NOT feeling ok the first time I saw this.
Yeah and they have to be locked in Davy Jones locker and if they drowned they wouldn’t be able to go to the afterlife as if you die in the sea you are stuck under the water as a soul and forced their for eternity finding your way to the afterlife, every time side characters who are innocent die I throw my bottle at the screen
The 'small' tentacles of the Kraken were scary but when those HUGE ones rose up and crushed the ship was a proper brown trouser moment. They looked like sky scrapers
This film is a visual masterpiece. It's hard to believe it was released in 2006 when to this date, few films have achieved such amazing special effects
Love how they sailors instantly knew what the kraken was as they were shouting KRAKEN!! , they were probably told stories by their dads about a big squid
I agree. Speaking of the Kraken in movies, I'm really surprised they didn't have it appear in Frozen 2 (since that franchise is FULL of Nordic legend stuff). Would have the film 10x more intense (especially the underwater battle)
I love how sadistic the Kraken is shown to be. It’s able to instantly pull a ship under (as shown in the early scene with the fisherman) but instead of killing quickly it takes its time snatching and tossing men like dolls, snapping masts to leave the ship dead in the water, all before the grand crescendo breaks the ship in half.
I noticed recently that that tune also forms part of the main theme for the Dark Knight trilogy. Which is neat because the main theme for the Pirates of the Caribbean series was also the main theme for Gladiator.
I always admired this scene for showing the sailors' efforts to take up arms and fight the beast until the end. Sure, they lost, but it was far more gratifying to see the victims actually defending themselves even if it was futile.
@@WLH-ss2qw Says you, pretty sure some men in this scene were begging for their lives. Clowns like you who romanticize the past will certainly have no future worth living.
"Let no joyful voice be heard. Let no man look up at the sky with hope. And let this day be cursed by we who ready to wake... The Kraken!" Mate. That's intense, chill Disney.
I hate Disney for their "Sequels" and " live actions" with predictable plots and cliches for the money. When I saw this movie, I honestly don't hate this part of disney. The rest I do.
I don’t think the Kraken knew that it was meant to kill Will specifically. I think Jones just sent it to destroy the ship in hopes that Will would be killed as well knowing that he was onboard. Afterall, Will didn’t exactly have the black spot on his hand.
He gets two minutes and twenty-five seconds of play. The rest was the job. (Yes, i did the maths from the moment he is summoned to when he begins his REAL onslaught on the ship.)
Ikr, it's almost a bit horrifying how little of a chance they stand and yet they fight on to the last man. The sea really is something of a death trap for mankind.
I love how much energy was brought to the Davy Jones character. You can tell Bill Nighy loved the role. Now compare that to lifeless and bored Blackbeard in OST.
That's just McShane to be fair when it's something he doesn't feel is 'serious'. Witness his phoning it in as the priest type guy in thrones to Vs his more animated Winston take in John Wick.
honestly the kraken is too easy I killed the first one I got as a solo sloop, it needs to be buffed A TON and make it wayy rarer, maybe give it some exclusive loot too.
Imagine if this was tommy wiseau forcing us to watch the room Tommy: Let no joyful voice be heard! Let no man look up to the sky with hope! And let this day be cursed, by we who ready to watch..... THE ROOM! Audience: NOOOOOOOOO!
Sam let no joyful voice bei heared. Let no man look at the sky with hope and let this day bei cursed by we who ready to wake ... The terrible 2006 CGI monster
So many reasons I love this scene 1) the crew is kind and nice there not pirates or pillagers there just simple merchant men but we see them die a horrible death just to prove to us the audience how evil and cruel Davy Jones is 2) the kraken is treated as a real beast it’s not just myth the moment they realize what it is they bring out harpoons spears and axes weapons meant to try and kill it in this world the kraken is legend not myth Real but almost never seen 3) this is the most realistic depiction of the Kraken it’s a giant octopus not some thing with crab legs and giant tentacles (clash of the Titans *cough cough*) it’s almost the perfect creature to sink a ship as shown it’s tentacles snatch people of the deck it wraps itself around masts and snaps them like twigs and then finally coils around the ship itself and breaks it like an egg...... 4)the score is AMAZING many people forget Hans was in these films before the Nolan Batman’s and other films and this score doesn’t disappoint its menacing and horrifying as you feel the utter despair of the crew and see the kraken Just perfect 👌
The earliest depiction of “the kraken” or “krakens” was a giant crab. Followed by whales followed by squids. So there’s actually nothing incorrect about depicting a kraken as a crab hybrid. It’s been an absolute honor educating you boys.
It's only for a split second but at 1:56, you can actually see the skeleton of some poor soul who wound up somehow getting tangled in ropes and is forever lashed to the Kraken's tentacle. The amount of effort the effort the effects department put into every little detail in this movie is nothing short of astonishing.
The Black Knight Yeah, but you'd have to sail the seas for eternity, as a monstrous creature. Is that what you want? As Jones said: "Let no man look up at the sky with hope". Some existence...
Well technically you’re stuck in the Dutchman and slowly losing your memory and yourself just like Bootstrap Bill.Ultimately you will end up being part of the ship after a 100 years of service is done, ending up like Wyvern.
@@kempy3444 Because unlike most of the Pirats Tracks, this music is actually named correctly for the scene. Best example of inaccurate naming for a music score and the time it was used, is "Bootstrap's bootstraps." That score plays during the Dauntless battle in Curse of The Black Pearl, but the title implies that it's supposed to be the score that was played during Ragetti telling the story of Bootstrap Bill to Jacks new crew.
So Davy Jones sends the Kraken to sink an entire ship and kill the whole crew with the sole intent of killing Will. Damn it Kraken, you had one job!!!!
I just want to say, Maccus the shark-man is a stellar crewman. He seems like a really competent first mate to Jones, and despite being an officer, here he is doing his share at the capstan. Same in that scene where they're hoisting the cannon, Maccus is heaving away with the rest of them. More love for Maccus.
Me: I didn't did my homework Dad: So... I think it's time for her to decide your fate Me: Her? Oh n- Dad: Let no joyful voices be heard! Me: no... Dad: Let no man look up in the sky for hope! Me: No Dad: and let this day be cursed by those who ready to wake Me: No! Dad: YOUR MOTHER! Me: NOOOOOOOOOO!
At Worlds End had Cuttler Beckett, and a fucking Maelstrom Dead Mans Chest had The Kraken and an undead sea devil Curse Of The Black Pearl had more down to earth sword fighting and a zombie pirate crew God I love this franchise
1:56 Sailor: EAT THIS!!! *stabs tentacle with an ordinary axe* Kraken: Why you little... >:( *grabs sailor* It's disturbingly funny how that guy looks at the moving tentacle without reacting.
It’s been said already, but the switch to the calamitous blare of Davy Jone’s chorus on the pipe organs as those tentacles smash the ship in half send chills down my spine every time I watch this scene. You know it’s over. There’s no more hope for the ship or her crew. The Kraken will take them all. Beautiful cinematography coupled with stellar music scoring really etches this epic, terrifying scene in my mind.
"Let no joyful voice be heard! Let no man look up at the sky with hope! And let this day be cursed by we who ready to wake... THE KRAKEN!!"gives me goosebumps everytime.
Infiniti That is like saying "since I found this 1 foot long mouse, there must be 200 foot long mice out there!" It's a logical fallacy, Colossal squid live in the bottom of the ocean and barely interact with humans, it is much easier for them to exist than a 2000 foot cuttlefish who actively hunts ships.
That is so awesome, it’s even cooler seeing it from Will’s perspective he can actually see the creature underwater and what it kind of looks like. *Epic.* I remember in the theater being blown away.
Especially if that "reef" is growling. No thanks, that certainly isn't a reef. But to be fair, they only expected the Dutchman to go on a wild pursuit, not to see a colossal cuttlefish-squid hybrid obliterate them.
The Kraken is a legend to them. Sure, they’re superstitious enough to believe it, like the _Flying Dutchman_ and Davy Jones exist, but they probably never truly expected to see it for themselves.
haha when that one pirates takes a swing at a 200 foot tentacle with an axe like 'this will stop it!' then promptly gets swiped down. lol that scene was awesome
But what if you have the kraken eat The Dead man's chest? Like, physically eat it(and not having it be sent to Davy Jones's locker). "Haha, try finding it now sucka"
That moment when those two arms loom over the center of the ship. And the terrible crash of both the ship splintering apart and the score sounding the final death knell for the doomed ship.
that scene with the 2 giant arms that smash the ship, thats not CGI those are real physical things smashing that ship that was just made into squid arms via CGI. But the ships destruction is not CGI, which is impressive as fuck.
The hull was a model made out of the design of the replica H.M.S. Bounty. Sadly, the replica Bounty sank in Hurricane Sandy whilst the original was burned after the Mutiny by Fletcher Christian.
Fred RobidouxH Yes thank you, but I thought there were two different songs in these scene; that´s why I couldn´t find this one alone, but they´re the same - I really just liked the second one :S
Still can't believe that this movie was released in 2006. The CGI on this movie is insane for it's time, and still holds up today. Especially Davy Jones
One of the Best underrated trilogy ever, they had a amazing balance of great locations, mithology, characters development, plot, action, adventure, comedy, drama, suspense and of course the Soundtrack.
like how will's dad really waited for him to finish his sentence before screaming "no!" as of he doesn't know what the giant thing in the middle of the ship does
Let no joyful voice be heard. let no man look up at the sky with hope. And let this day be cursed by we who ready to wake THE KRAKEN. (Badass lines by Davy Jones).
