The fact Barbossa pulled the apple out of his pocket just goes to show you how desperate he was to eat one even if he died, but the loss of blood took away his strength and claimed his life.
“So what now Jack Sparrow, are we to be two immortals locked in an epic battle until Judgement Day and the trumpets sound?” “Or you could surrender.” Best comeback of all time.
4:30 What a scene, WHAT A SCENE. The way the actions slows down the moment the gun fires, to the echoing sounds of the gunfire with no soundtrack, to the slowly building choir as we see Jack with a dead serious expression for the first time, not even making a witty comeback or anything, to Barbossa very subtly feeling happy to finally be able to feel again, to then for this feeling being the cold embrace of death. Not only that, but the fact that he carried his apple with him the whole time, but that he was unable to get a single bite of it. Multiple character arcs and plots coming into an utter, brilliant conclusion in less than 60 seconds of cinema.
@@finlandguy427 The point is he has already change his allegiance like five times at that time in the movie so no one knows on whose side Jack was truly on . Remember 20 years ago was the premiere of the film so none knew what kind of troll Jack was .
2:10.. you'll notice Hans Zimmers perfectionism. Timing the music and emphasis as Jack used the butt end of his sword against Barbossa. It displays Jack's new found confidence.
@@Dark_Lord_Sauronyes and no, on the CD of the soundtrack of the third movie there’s a paper with an interview with Hans where he stated that he initially composed most of the main themes of the first movie but because of schedule issues he had to quit but left Klaus as his replacement and Klaus used the themes Hans composed besides from making new music of course, in the end Hans did not receive credit as composer but as music producer instead. And as a fun fact, originally Alan Silvestri was going to compose the music of this film.
The Gospel, which means the Good News is the news that God Almighty, the Creator came in the flesh as Jesus Christ to take away the sin of the world. The one God is a trinity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Son came and laid down his own life to save ours. His sacrifice on the cross paid the price for our redemption with his own blood. On the third day he rose from dead and offers the gift of salvation and forgiveness to those that repent and trust in him. John 1:1,14 KJV In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and THE WORD WAS GOD. [14] And THE WORD WAS MADE FLESH, and dwelt among us, 1 John 3:8 KJV He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Isaiah 9:6 KJV For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty GOD, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. John 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and THE WORLD KNEW HIM NOT. John 3:18 KJV He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
The look on Jack's face after he shot Barbosa was actually sadness...he may have betrayed him, but Jack still cared about Barbosa in his own weird way.
Nah, it was cold anger. Barbossa had betrayed him, not just once but twice, done despicable crimes that goes against what even pirates like Jack can tolerate, mass murder of civilians among them. And from the very beginning, he promised that bullet was meant for Barbossa. If Jack cared so much, he'd have spared him. Barbossa and Jack's relationship do not get a turn for the better until after At World's End, where it's much more cordial, though some of that growth does occur in At World's End as well.
@@realDarkPetersonBarbossa is clearly a lot crueller than Jack but I don’t know about the despicable crimes thing. You don’t become a pirate if you can’t tolerate harming innocents. I doubt that the crew operated that much differently to the way they did at Port Royal when Jack was captain, even if he probably did prefer minimal violence
@@laylaruan In Pirates 2 the crew complains to Jack about not doing "real" pirating at the opening. Jack tends to not have as much wealth as other pirates, because his moral compass is stronger. And he often suffers mutinies because of it.
@@realDarkPeterson But there's a very specific reason for that, it's establishing that there's been a bunch of disasters lately like that hurricane, and that he's been trying to track down the key and chest as his debt with Jones gets closer. We don't really see Jack doing pirate stuff, because the films always have him distracted by some kind of supernatural shitstorm, but we know what his general life plan is. The line you're talking about actually hints at the actual piracy that they would be doing under normal circumstances
The shot of Jack and Barbossa fighting at 4:02 is epic. The wrap around filming around them near the gold pile, the lighting, just everything. Also, it’s pretty funny that they’re still fighting while unbeknownst to them, Gibbs and crew already commandeered the Pearl. So, what would Barbossa have done if he did win? He lost the ship and the crew 😂
The "Iconic" (if you want to call it that) part of the fight for me; the part I remember when I think of this duel, is 2:39 - 3:04. It really stuck out to me as a kid and for some reason the tavern fighting in "Sid Meier's Pirates!" reminded me of this part. 2:39 is the moment I come for (though I do stay for the rest).
That’s another great shot. It shows us how skilled Jack is in sword fighting. He used the space to catch Barbossa off guard and square off in an enclosed space. I’m not sure who the better duelist is, though. Maybe Barbossa? Not entirely sure.
If I recall correctly from the DvD commentary Will was a Rank 1 duelist, Barbosa and Norrington were both Rank 2, and Jack was Rank 3. Of course, as a fencer myself, textbook skill is not as good as experience and thinking on your feet. Will had the former in spades. Jack had the latter and it shows.
After rewatching this a few times, I can see that Barbossa definitely overpowers Jack a couple of times. Barbossa has ferocity whereas Jack has the adept skill of thinking on his feet. Also, I just want to point out that these fight scenes are really powered by the soundtrack. If the bombastic music wasn’t behind the fighting, it wouldn’t have been as memorable.
To me the best part is how unaffably evil Barbossa is. He gets stabbed in the chest and all he does is roll his eyes and sigh, like his tuesday night was just ruined.
I love the attention to detail in this fight. No matter how far the camera is from the actors or how out of focus they are, the cursed pirates will always flip back and forth when they go into the moonlight. They could’ve easily cut away from that every time
@@samu_cfhflames4469I never actually noticed anyone was there! I thought the one on the right might’ve been a crew member that was accidentally caught on camera
This whole scene is just fantastic. I am convinced that Barbosa and the other mutinous crew members were unaware of Jack’s debt with Davy Jones. If they knew about it, they probably wouldn’t have taken the Black Pearl from Jack in the first place, knowing they had limited time with it.
I think it's true Barbosa and the others didn't know about Jack's deal with Jones. Jack was originally captain of the Black Pearl (though it had a different name at the time) when he worked for Beckett. But when Jack defied Beckett and released the slaves he was supposed to deliver, Beckett sank his ship which made Jack turn to Jones to bring it back. Jack likely wouldn't have told his crew about any of it, not many pirates would have accepted a captain who used to work for Beckett. But I think you're wrong about Jones going after the Pearl once Jack's thirteen years were up, the one who had to pay the price was Jack, not whoever was captain of the Pearl.
@@alpha-sama Perhaps. But we all know how Jones responded to Jack in movie 2 when Jack said “Technically, I was only captain for two years and then I was viciously mutinied upon”. Jones said “Then you were a poor captain, but a captain nonetheless.” That shows that Jones is simply evil and doesn’t care that Jack technically didn’t get his end of the deal. Not to mention, Jones sunk ships all the time for no reason. Even if Jack wasn’t on the Black Pearl when his time was up, Jones may have sunken it regardless. He may have asked Barbossa where Jack was and he’d have said he didn’t know, but this would probably just make Jones mad and he’d sink the Pearl anyway.
I always loved the way the music picked up at 0:33. It was the perfect climax and the way Jack Sparrow lived his life in an unpredictable way. He is banking on the Royal Navy being able to defend themselves, hoping that the Pirates didn't kill them all with their sneak attack, trusting on Will's talent as a fighter, knowing that now he is essentially immortal and can't die. He knew this was his last shot pretty much and he was taking it.
I would set sail to the cursed aztec gold to fight against Davy Jones and Salazar ... i mean just take one piece of it to become immortal undead and pretty much win.
I don't think you want to be doing that mate. Firstly, it's implied that Jones has the curse of all curses, and it is also implied that he can kill people who have undead curses such as sailors like Salazar. Secondly, Salazar is a ghost vs. you a skeleton. A ghost is incorporeal, you could throw hundreads of cannonballs and explosives at it and it would do nothing, the skeleton aztec curse on the other hand actually posses material substance, such as when Elizabeth and Will put a bomb into one of them while they were under the moonlight, and then they explode into a few hundred separate bones after they are pushed out of the moonlight.
Barbossa is really the best villain When he noticed what Jack and Will were up to, he pointed his pistol right at Elizabeth, the one both Will and Jack cared about
I don't think he noticed that Will had both coins yet. He seemed shocked when Will said "He didn't waste it." I think he was going to aim the gun at Elizabeth to talk Will back down, not realising it was already too late.
One of the best 'mask off' moments for Jack Sparrow. The sheer euphoria but also relief on his face to finally see his former friend die. Jack is VERY sinister at his core.
I love the implication that Jake has SO MUCH FAITH in Will's combat abilities that he thinks tossing him a sword while his hounds are bound behind his back is enough for him to just go 3 v 1 against undead pirates. Like, yeah, it's established Will is one of the best swordfisghters in the series, but damn Jack, help a homie out a little lol he would've died without Elizabeth.
Jack knows Will won't go down easy in a swordfight. He trained enough for that. Also Jack had to believe in him. Barbossa is tough without Jack's good way of thinking he would have lost the fight 😅
Actually, he took the apple out after he realized that the curse had been lifted so he could taste it before he died, but the blood loss killed him too quickly for him to take a bite.
@@laylaruanI'm been pondering that myself. Could they have been still alive but just in sentient pieces scattered all around and then few seconds later died when the curse was lifted Or did they died from that explosion for good 🤔 you never know 🤷😅
Its funny I was rewatching Dead Mans Chest and Worlds End and I didn't know Barbossa's first name was Hector, when they go to the "Locker" to free Jack he is like "ahhh Hector" I thought he was nuts and gave him a random name lol
3:05 BARBOSSA= You always run away from a fight SPARROW= Have not BABOSSA= Yeah so SPARROW= Have not BARBOSSA= Yeah so SPARROW= Have not BARBOSSA= Yeah so, and you know it SPARROW= Have not slander and calumny Jack hates it when his enemies shout at him 😂 Barbossa and Davy jones 🗿🍷
I'm suddenly reminded of a TV advertisement for this movie. It spliced three moments together from this climax. Barbossa throws away his sword and declares that Jack can't beat him. Jack retorts that he could surrender, and then Barbossa shouts in a rage at Jack's comeback. Much as I like this movie, I think that edit was the funnier version.
@@nicktroisi6347 yep. Agreed to both. Definitely epic moments in worlds end and soundtrack is even more phenomenal. In both sequels dead man’s chest and worlds end.
So what now, Jack Sparrow? Are we to be immortals locked in an epic battle until judgment day and trumpets sound? Mmm? My mom liked that line from Hector Barbossa. 😂😂😂😅
I think the best part of this scene is Barbossa's reaction when the fight starts. If he's scared or surprised you'd never be able to tell, his face is just like "Oop, okay, here we go then" as he hops up to fight Jack
I thought the same thing. Jacoby and Weatherby had their chance to kill both Will and Elizabeth while they were distracted. But, of course, there wouldn't be a story for them in the sequel then.
This is honestly the best potc film because unlike the others which have Jack in an insane debt, a stupid death prophecy, jack stupidly trading his compass and ridiculous plot armour, here we see jack at his best: witty, clever, cunning, kind, not arrogant, not stupid enough to trade his compass or barter with Davy Jones and manages to win with no plot armour against an enemy who is almost as talanted as he is.
JACK: 🌕💀 That's interesting. Couldn't resist mate. BARBOSA: 🌕💀 So what now Jack Sparrow? We to be two immortals locked in a epic clash until judgment day and the trumpet sounds? Hmm? JACK: Or you can surrender.
What i love is they could've just had them fight as human or as skeletons, but went the extra mile to have them constantly transition to and from both and never once sacrifice the quality of the cg.
The running that Depp does for his character is great. Lol i always laugh at seeing it. Especially here when hes running from Barbossa in their fight. 😄
So interesting theory I had for why the Cursed Crew can react to pain. With each coin they returned to the chest, some feeling did come back. But a cruel twist of the knife would reveal the only feeling the pirates could relive was pain and agony. Robbed of the joyful sensations, they are only exposed to the cruelest of sensations in life. Just a nice bit of flavor for why the pirates audibly react to stabbings and shootings in the film
I always liked how this duel feels compared to the duels in the sequels, those are still good but theirs a element of this is personal between jack and Barbossa their rivalry, resentment and weird respect for one another that pushes this one over the edge and of course the epic score.
It's kind of like Back to the Future, the first one was intended to be a standalone film but they later decided to make sequels with 2 and 3 acting as their own duology.
I love that despite Jack being a bad sword fighter he found ways to utilize! You know something he didn't do at all during the Salazar fight heck even with Blackbeard there was Jack utilizing stuff but I guess this Jack Sparrow is long gone
5:09 Remember when Gibbs mentioned, “They marooned Jack on an island and left him to die; but not before he’d gone mad with heat.” This is exactly the moment; all the fury that he has kept behind his charming looks and drunkenness, it all culminated to finally achieve his revenge after 10 years.
