We've got to get excited about this, it's carnivore time. Like we're going to do two weeks of the carnivore diet and we're going to see what it does to our bodies, what it does to our minds, how we feel. This is completely unbiased. This is flat out self-experimentation at its finest, and I hope that you're joining in with me. This is Day One, and I want to do everyone a service by breaking down a sample meal plan. Now the nice thing is, with carnivore, the meal plans are pretty darn simple. However, there are some things you need to be paying attention to, specifically because carnivore is all about an anti-inflammatory immunological response. We're trying to get the body back down to baseline. So there's certain spices you want to avoid, and I recommend a specific sequence with different types of meats throughout the day in order to get the best response. I'm going to break it all down for you so you have the goods to get through this with me, so I invite you to join me on two weeks of carnivore, starting now.
All right, so let's get to this. First of all, the carnivore diet is all about getting your body back down to baseline. When you don't have a lot of things coming in, your immune system seems to relax a little bit. This is the whole premise behind carnivore. It's not about just eating as much meat as you can. It's not about just increasing your carbon footprint or anything like that. It's nothing to do with that. It's all about basically an autoimmune paleo type approach where we are just limiting so many different things that our body actually comes back down to baseline. You see a lot of anti-inflammatory effects. Dr. Shawn Baker is really the guy who invented the carnivore diet and he knows a lot of what of he's doing. Let's go ahead and do this.
First off, I do want to say that if you're doing the carnivore challenge, there is a special offer from ButcherBox down in the description for anyone that's doing this challenge. Extreme discounts on meat bundles from ButcherBox that you can get delivered right to your doorstep. I'm a huge fan of Butcher Box. They're a huge part of this channel to begin with, but they're really throwing it out to everybody for this particular challenge so if you want to get your meat cheaper and don't want to have to do a huge grocery haul, please take advantage of it down in the description. Huge thank you to you guys at ButcherBox.
ll right, so here's how I want you to start your day. I am a big fan of doing apple cider vinegar right when you start your day. You roll out of bed, I always start my day with apple cider vinegar. You do a couple tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in 10 to 12 ounces of water along with a little pinch of pink Himalayan salt or Redmond Real Salt, just a good high quality salt, and then you really don't need to add a whole lot more. You can add a little bit of lemon if you want to, but let's go ahead and omit that from this particular challenge. Normally I would also say add cayenne pepper, but cayenne is typically a nightshade, which is pretty inflammatory, so we'll keep it simple. Salt, apple cider vinegar, maybe a tiny bit of stevia, and some water. That's how you start your day. Then you're going to go ahead and you're going to do your workout, whatever you need to do. I'll talk about workouts later in this video.
So meal number one, I want you to keep it very lean protein. Again, with carnivore, there's not a whole lot of variables, but I do want you to keep your protein sources very lean. I'm talking about a lean poultry or a lean fish in this particular case. Now you can use salmon if it's sockeye salmon. Sockeye salmon is pretty darn lean naturally to be completely honest, and right now with ButcherBox, you can get some good sockeye salmon, so you'll be in good shape. The reason I want you to keep it lean is it allows you to use your fats from your stored body fat a little bit better.

EVERYONE- I am not a carnivore expert! This is my EXPERIMENT with carnivore. People wanted a starting point for the first few days and this is what it is based on my overall Keto background. This entire challenge is going to be updated with live broadcasts and diet updates so as I uncover and try different things. Organ meat is already a part of my diet, so I’m sure it’ll be in my protocol as I go on. Fact is, LEARN with me. Don’t hate on the fact that I’m trying something to see how I feel and share the information with y’all. This kind of protocol is how I segment my day in terms of how I time fattier cuts of meat, etc. You don’t have to join in. And guess what?! Regularly scheduled programming is still going to occur!

Thomas, I usually find your content to be very consistent with the science, well thought out and delivered. But this time I have alot to disagree with. I have a B.S. in Nutrition Science (not just some bro-science guy), I have been on the carnivore diet for nearly a year now, and I am also a Professional Athlete. 3:20 - *Personal Opinion* I would suggest just 2 meals per day on the Carnivore diet (Lunch and dinner, or OMAD Lunch). Instead of being concerned with keeping the fat low, just fast through until lunch. 2 meals is definitely enough in my experience. 3:20 - You're too concerned with regulating the fat. You should first start by calculating how much PROTEIN you need and THEN fill in the rest with fat. Protein is king. I suggest 2.5-3g/kg of total body weight in protein. 3:20 - You suggest lean fish and then later in the video suggest taking omega 3 pills??? Just eat fatty fish (omega 3 is in the fat) and get the omega 3 directly from the source, not an oxidized pill 4:00 - "If you need more calories add avocado or coconut oil"??? Why not add in CARNIVORE food, egg yolks or butter, or tallow? Why are you adding in oxidized plant oils? 6:30 - "If you're not getting grass fed beef you need to supplement Omega 3"... read previously listed point. Also, most beef is grass fed/grain finished and even grain fed has a better omega 3/6 profile than lean chicken which you suggest. (See minute 18 in this lecture, the whole lecture is definitely worth the watch) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sP_19aj4-3A.html - Ruminant meat should be the bulk of the diet. It has the best nutrient profiles and a few essential nutrients that are hard to find elsewhere (ex. Iron, creatine) *See listed youtube lecture link - Honestly, it takes weeks sometimes months to adjust your micro-biome to this diet. Good luck with 2 weeks. I feel this experiment might do an injustice to the diet, hopefully not. - No mention of organ meats, eggs, or raw dairy... - Shawn Baker definitely did not invent this, its what our ancestors ate Personally from this diet I: - Lost 22lbs since beginning this diet (July 18') - Drastically reduced inflammation of joints - Drastically improved digestion - No longer have bloating or acid reflux - Regulated sleep cycle - Reduced general anxiety (Just to list a few) Thank you for the content and I look forward to watching your channel over the following weeks!

Shawn Baker didn't invent carnivore. Avocado oil, coconut oil, and spices are not carnivore. Why is butter not okay but coconut is? Butter is animal based and low in dairy proteins and sugars. Carnivore should be 80% fat by calorie, which is about 50:50 fat to protein in grams. Enzymes are often plant-based. Stick to HCl if you need to improve digestion. Also, where are the organs? Thomas these aren't safe recommendations! People won't get the results they should.

Been doing this a carnivore-based diet for 10 months thanks to studying Frank Tufano’s work along with other nose-tail carnivore people. Created a page on my website with tips for those starting out who are recovering from difficult health conditions. I like your work Thomas, but these recommendations ought to be preferences as meant for those without health conditions. Those with health conditions may find the coconut oil, olive oil, etc. All could lead to a poor response to the transition. Same for the spices other than salt for the start. There’s a variety of things to take into consideration like calcium status, iodine/iodide status, magnesium status, HCL production, bile production (there’s ways to improve this which can make a massive difference), additionally thyroid health which is huge for someone adapting to this diet. I am glad you mentioned intermittent fasting a couple days or a few days a week when doing this diet which seems helpful as well. Glad to see you exploring this, I’ll be doing a hell of a write up on this at the end of the year cause I’ve reversed a serious health issue with this intervention along with select supplementation.

@@TheNaturalHealthBlogger I assume ur talking about Baker? Idk what his bloodwork shows but im sure theyre better than his previous pre carni state where he was miserable. He suffered from auto immune problems I believe. Or so he recently brought to light. Idk what ur stance is on diet. But I agree not all of you shouldnt idolize anybody and then follow their diet. But new science is coming out, ill be it slowly, but all the time. And from the overall of what we can eat. It seems the healthiest diet we can follow is along the lines of mostly meat and higher fat from meat mostly as well. With fasting preferably more than intermittent fasting which only barely is fasting at all. Just better than snacking all day. And in terms of vegetables. U can eat some of its if ur healthy which most people arent and should probably forego for a goodwhile til they are then add it and consume maybe a small amount a couple times a week maybe. Or a lil bit daily. And I mean. A lil. Just so ur system is used to the compounds and somewhat creates a strengthening effect caused by the slight stress the plant compounds put on the body. Fruit can be completely forgone. Fructose seems completely unnecessary. Fruits just taste good. But I feel fructose may not be fully understood in terms of its negative or positive effects. I love you Thomas and enjoy your content for the most part. I also recognize that every body is unique and has differing dietary needs, thus everyone has their own VERSION of a carnivore diet. Like you said, this is YOUR personal experiment, your spin on a carnivore diet, and something you desire to share with the world. Thankfully this is NOT how I eat a carnivore diet. As a menopausal woman, if I ate this diet I would end up depressed and gain weight because there's not enough fat to support my brain and nothing to support my hormones. Too, the lack of fat would cause me to feel hungry all the time, thus I would consume far too many calories. Aside from that, I do OMAD, sometimes 2MAD so three square meals a day definitely doesn't work for me. More power to you though. It'll be interesting to see how this all works out for you.
@koreenphotogirl
@koreenphotogirl 5 лет назад
I agree... This seemed off from the other carnivore eaters I've heard talk about the diet. Lean doesn't work for me either. I appreciate Ken Barry's take on it. What do you eat? I'm interested in learning more ... as a perimenopausal woman.
@TheIntuitiveBodyFoodieNetwork
@TheIntuitiveBodyFoodieNetwork 5 лет назад
@@koreenphotogirl I keep it pretty simple. I don't eat the same thing or the exact same quantities every day. I often switch it up according to my hunger. Some days I consume more calories, some days much less. Some days I do OMAD, other days I do 2MAD. Again, it depends on my hunger which is often the result of physical activity. The more active I am, the greater my appetite. On days I'm not active, I often only consume fatty bone broth. I mostly consume raw sheep milk though once or twice a month I add a little raw cheese, homemade fermented yogurt, cream cheese, sour cream, etc. And though I do not consume it everyday, I drink a 10 oz coffee with 2-4 oz organic whipping cream. I also drink 1 to 1 1/2 L fermented electrolyte water kefir daily. I make it myself and do extra long ferments to eliminate virtually all of the sugar. That said, this is the bulk of what I eat ... * 4-6T high quality grass-fed animal fats each day (ie: ghee, bison fat, beef fat, goose fat, duck fat) as well as visible fat inherent to whatever meats I eat. Soon I'll be adding raw butter from A2 Jersey cows. * Between 4 & 8 pastured eggs, over easy, hard boiled, or fermented (duck & chicken). * 1-3 cups homemade bone broths (beef, lamb, goat, etc). * 4-8 oz fermented raw sheep's milk (made with milk kefir grains; allows me to do long ferments to eliminate most sugar). * 1/2 can kippered herring, sardines, cod liver, or cod liver pate OR 2 oz liver (beef & duck) OR 2-4 oz beef heart or kidney. Once or twice a month I'll have 2 oz canned salmon or tuna with 2T homemade mayonnaise. * 2-6 oz pastured or grass fed red muscle meat (lamb, goat, beef & bison, and every now & then duck). * I eat 2-4 oz organic chicken once a month. I don't eat muscle meat everyday and what I do eat I often switch it up to include steaks, burgers, chops, stew meat, ground meat, shank, etc. Excluding burgers & ground meats, I prefer the bulk of my red meat seared on the outside and medium rare to rare inside. Overall, the bulk of my diet is high quality animal fats, pastured eggs, fermented raw sheep milk and one or a combination of sardines, herring, cod liver, cod liver pate, duck liver, beef liver, beef kidney, or beef heart. Eggs are excellent for thyroid health. Fat is good for brain health. The rest of my diet pretty much takes care of most everything else.

Nooope, I’ve been doing carnivore for a while and I know you’re no expert but this is not the way to do this. Go for the highest quality fatty cuts of meat, organs, raw cheese, butter and pastured egg yolks, not lean cuts. Avoid them if possible. Not a bunch of avocado oil either. Avocado oil is not bad to consume for calories, especially if you’re trying to gain weight and add extra calories but it has basically zero vitamins. Animals store nutrients in their fat and organs, and avoiding them will lead to deficiencies. Especially if you don’t see eggs, butter, and cheese as options or are allergic to them. Doing this is asking to become deficient in time. Removing inflammation is an important thing about carnivore but nutrient density is equally important. Lean meat is about as nutrient dense as a fruit. Animal fat is good, there’s no point in avoiding it. I like you Tom but you’re doing carnivore incorrectly. Side note: Also only supplements I recommend are organs as supplements. As far as actual supplements go, only one I recommend is D3 if you don’t get enough sun, that’s about it. Maybe use seaweed occasionally for iodine or if you must supplement it.

As well as oxalate dumping syndrome for those jumping in to this diet suddenly can be something worth knowing about.
@BodyEpiphanies
@BodyEpiphanies 5 лет назад
@@mello.b3373 It's easily corrected with temporary use of calcium citrate (take co-factors d3, k2, magnesium). And is apt to be better-resolved long-term with proper eggshell calcium altogether. I see this often, I even encountered it around 8 and a half month mark wondering why my low-back was hurting, about 3 days on calcium citrate it all went away. Now, exploring Ray Peat's and Danny Roddy's work I am learning a lot more regarding parathyroid health, and thyroid function, etc. I think calcium from eggshell sources is likely best, again with proper co-factors. And I actually think those doing this diet who can eat dairy (raw/fermented not pasteurized) aren't apt to run into this issue. My suspicion is this whole oxalate-dumping syndrome is really a calcium deficit as a whole. So unless you're eating sardines frequently or able to eat raw/fermented dairy or straight up eating eggshells ground up, supplement the right forms of calcium and you aren't apt to run into this. As well consider some base herbs that breakdown calcium oxalates.

Interesting theory. I experienced oxalate dump (itchy rash all over) at the one week mark and it cleared up a few days later, but that’s also when I introduced raw dairy. @@Saylor_Swift It seems consistent with people I know. I think it needs to be communicated by some of these more popular cats as well. Devora Gray I’ve been carnivore (no plants, or plant oils) for 10 months. I have never followed a plan. Adaptation , for me, hormonally speaking has taken some time. I was completely vegan/vegetarian for three years before this so my body had to work out all the inflammation and damage. This is not a “quick fix” way if eating. Two weeks, in my opinion will only give you a tiny glimpse of the potential. After about six months my hormones had regulated. And I feel better than I have in ten years. You’ve got to give your body time to adapt. Kelly Hogan, who has been eating this way for eight years shares her experiences with Biohackers lab, if you are interested. Keep it simple. Don’t worry about tracking macros or calories. I have found I feel at my optimum when eating the highest fat meat, and liver (on occasion). I really love your videos Thomas but this one really takes the cake, reminding me of the Jillian Michaels keto video. I think you should take it down do a little more research and post a new one with some better information. Frank tufano has been carnivore for going on seven years now, and he's not one of the longest carnivores out there. it seems you're defeating the purpose of going carnivore by planning three meals a day. Plan on eating once a day, but having other food ready if you get hungry in between. Eat to satiety, not on a planned schedule. If you're going to do this experiment it's going to take longer than 2 weeks unless you're keto or fat adapted already otherwise you're just going to suffer two weeks of carb withdrawal symptoms which will skew your results. Eat beef, lamb, pork, cold water fish, butter and scrap the turkey and chicken, which gives many people on the carnivore diet issues. The apple cider vinegar is unnecessary also.

Thomas, as a fan of your content: "easing" into a carnivore diet doesn't make much sense. ACV and coconut oil, for instance, still contain salicylates, which is one of the antinutrients the carnivore diet tries to eliminate (you can reintroduce later and see if you're actually sensitive to it). Go all in for at least 4-6 weeks: fatty cuts of beef, salt, water. Avoid ground beef if possible. It'll be worth it.

I have been carnivore for about 3 weeks. I find the length of eating that you mentioned interesting. I find I eat quicker naturally on carnivore. I couldn't imagine it taking an hour. I feel my relationship with food has changed. I eat to fuel my body. I still savor my meal but I no longer have long meals. I eat, fuel and get back to life!

Yeah but he was laying out the types of meals you should eat everyday. Just curious to hear his knowledge on it. Some people do all animal products while on carnivore. I do meat, eggs and I'll do butter and heavy cream. Very little cheese as well from time to time.

He is just offering options for people who may not have access to high quality meats at their grocery stores or they may not have local farms that can provide them with what they need. One of the most important parts of this diet is that the meat you consume is from pasture raise and grass fed animals, wild caught fish, etc to ensure proper nutrition and low inflammation.

My Carnivore Diet: • 6 litres of Raw Goat Milk (1 litre a day - a great source of Vitamins A, D, and iodine). • 300-400 grams of meat, grass fed beef is best to satiate hunger. Have one or two meals a day between 11-6pm. Add plenty of unsalted butter to each dish (vitamin A is essential for absorbing protein and hormones). • 500g of Beef or Goat liver once a week or fortnight (cook lightly, excellent source of vitamins). • 300-400g of goat brain or fish for omega 3 once a fortnight. • eat bone marrow once or twice a fortnight. • make yourself a large batch of bone broth using bone marrow and cow feet. • have a spoon of raw untreated honey once or twice a week. Feel free to add some seasonal fruits or berries, but the Goat milk should hydrate the body best; Goat milk causes no issues with digestion, perfect for people who are lactose intolerant.

Most carnivore followers would recommend just looking for fattier cuts of meat, eating when you like, and eating enough to be full, plus nothing else but salt and water.

This is a two week experiment and this is a "sample" diet. He said you don't have to follow his plan. Who's forcing you to even do this experiment with him? His video addresses some issues I'm currently having and I'm thrilled...for TWO weeks. Financially I'm stuck with the lesser quality meats but I do take cod liver oil and supplements and today I'll be starting digestive enzymes for the first time--how awesome to hear that he actually recommends them for this experiment!

Hello Thomas. I am not trying to disrespect you or your intent on this challenge when I say this, but this is a modified carnivore or a "carnivore light" approach at best, IMO. I'm a bit surprised to hear that for this 2 week period that lean meat, supplements, and plant foods are involved (ACV, spices, oils) at all. This all raises several questions, the first of which is; why are you suggesting that people should be taking ACV when it comes from a plant? Second, why not substitute bacon fat, tallow or ghee for the suggested olive or coconut oil if you want to add fat to lean protein? Third, why not eat fatty cuts of meet so there's need to add more fat to it to be sated? Fourth, If you are eating high quality grass fed, fatty meat along with some organ meats (liver 2-3 times per week in particular) for 2 weeks and are getting outside for significant periods of time, no supplements should be needed for such a brief period of time or even at all for an extended period of time. Is 2 weeks really sufficient time to obtain the benefits of carnivore over such a short period of time especially if plant based foods along with supplements are involved? The results are tainted by plant-based foods from day 1. How can any changes/benefits you experience be attributed to a pure carnivore diet if you are involving foods that don't come from only animals? Please explain the reasoning behind this approach. Maybe this is just simply to put your stamp on a modified carnivore diet and not step on any carnivore apologist's toes instead of truly doing an actual carnivore experiment on yourself? The science aspect of this isn't very clear. Thanks in advance for your response. -LZ
