Episode 16 of my SOBO thru hike of the Pacific Crest Trail takes me across 198 miles of the stunning desert over 10 days. This is my first section hiking with my husband Brian, and it's obvious that I am really enjoying the company!
We hike through rolling hills, wind turbine farms, the Mojave Desert, along the LA Aqueduct, take a zero day in Tehachapi and make our way to Agua Dulce. From sweeping views, to long water carries, to trail magic, this episode has it all!
I really hope you enjoy joining me (and Brian) over the next 10 days of thru hiking the Pacific Crest Trail :)
Thanks so much for watching!
Love, Krysta aka Story xoxo

Another great video, it’s so interesting to see the different landscapes as you’ve continued on your journey!!! Your daily mileage is SO impressive and how easily you say “we are hiking 25 miles today”!!! (Of course, I know it’s not easy, but you make it look effortless at times). Also, thanks for answering my prior questions about walking through streams. Great to hear that your shoes dry easily and that you don’t get blisters (YAY). Again, you are so inspirational with your attitude and smiles through HARD work. It’s been double fun watching your Tofino journey, too. Thanks for taking us along❤

If you and Brian ever want to hike the Wonderland Trail, around Mt. Rainier, we live just outside the park. You could stay with us and I could transport you to the trail. This will be my 3rd summer as a Trail Angel at White Pass (PCT mile 2295) and also hosting thru hikers in our home, and I’ll be thru hiking the PCT in 2025! I love your videos!

Brian's trail name should be Super Mario, that's who he reminds me of. Loved this episode. Thank you...

Again so nice to see you and your husband now, you look happy. I dont think a lot of people know how it is to walk that much everyday for a long time . All respect.

i was contemplating going SOBO since I have a hard time with intense heat. I can't wait to see how you managed the rest of the trail. Also, you guys look so cute together!

Wow--you two have the biggest smiles in this section! You are right--the Desert Section looks like such a different world. I have only hiked in Joshua Tree as far as desert goes, so I have had just a little taste. I was just wondering if you had seen rattlesnakes in November, then all of a sudden, a rattlesnake appeared in your video! I don't think I had ever seen a hiker do the aqueduct section in the daytime before--because most videos are from NOBOS and they do it at night, usually.

From about 14:30 on, there were patches that didn’t even look like desert. Great scenery.

Go, Brian, Go! Krysta, are you still carrying your bear cannister? Top of your pack looks like it.
@KrystaNorwick
@KrystaNorwick Месяц назад
Yes I was! Brian had the Ursack, so I decided to just keep carrying the bear canister while he was here. Definitely not a necessity though.

Why do you wear your raincoat so much? Do you not get hot & sweaty? I'd be overheating when hiking with a raincoat, (even one with pit zips), on even if it's coldish, (-5C)?

Good question, I've been pondering that too!! If I am moving any pace at all I am hot (and sweaty) when hiking.
@KrystaNorwick

I wear my jacket when it's cold and take it off once I get hot or start sweating! The mornings and evenings were really cold because it was Nov/Dec at this time. I was also running colder at this point because I'd lost a lot of my body fat, so I felt I needed the extra layer more.

$10 to pick up a resupply package which you already paid to post? Some of these hiker facilities sure seem to take advantage of a captive audience 🤔

On the other hand, storing tens of 50 boxes in your place of business is a chore...
