Feelin like “old hat” once again.
We welcomed Jesse James back to the crew today!!
For the most part, machines never stopped. Except when a finger in the drum on the header broke and caused a horrible noise.
The straw appears to be drying down. YAY!

Hard to believe the size of those wheat fields. Fire in there would be a catastrophe...no place to go, high winds...can't imagine how you do it without worrying yourself to death. That field along the ridge of the coulee...what an amazing view for the first cut! No time to admire it though. Thanks for the videos.

Your videos make me homesick for northern Montana. My dad was a mechanic for a John Deere dealer in Havre for many years. Memories on many fronts. I'm a 70 year old who misses his dad and the time I spent with him in the field.

Ohhhhh, this warms my heart. We visited Havre last summer so I know where you’re talking about. We also helped a farmer with harvest north of Chester. A SEA of wheat!!

@@ZeorianHarvestingTrucking in the "old days" before no till, it was all strip farming to control wind erosion. When I drive through the areas today, its quite a visual contrast between then and now. Chem fallow is better for moisture retention and keeping the precious top soil, but I can't help but wonder about the build-up of chemicals and the chemical resistant weeds. Farming is a constant battle between man and mother nature. I call it legalized gambling.

Are you talking about the standing vs lodged wheat? The variety of wheat has a lot to do with that. But the yields are very similar.

In the 60s had friends in the hills south of Laurel Mt. had 3 jd 105s with 22 foot headers. Never forget the dad said that is the widest they could go. All have passed. Would be surprised to to see the flex headers now.

That’s the same size header that my grandpa once said the same thing - they’ll never get any bigger. We are running a 50’, a 45’ and Jim and I have 40’ headers. Thats a big swath!

Your videos bring back so many memories of a 14 year old green horn kid in 1963 driving truck in his first wheat harvest. The comradery among the harvest crew, the harvest meals, the challenges of crops, equipment, weather and bunkhouse antics. It was great. Thanks for sharing your summer adventure with us.

100 bushel wheat per acre is about 5,000 loaves of bread. That's about twice the Montana average. If my math is right. That means one farm is feeding millions. When I farmed it was beef, cheese, and ice cream. Always a thumbs up! Thanks.

Great video thanks for the updates certainly big scale operation,I had been thinking before Jim past comment on Massey 750s How things change you would of needed many more machines and hard working guy in those hot Massey cabs I am guess it's grab it before the ears neck off if the straw is as green as that,but that's why it's s good crop. Love the video! In the beginning I saw you drove with the combine close to the abyss (it seemed quite deep to me!), seems quite scary to me! But maybe the header is so big that the combine itself is far from the edge. I can't imagine you worked on this farm last year too, it looks like yesterday, time flies! It IS deep! But, yes, the combine sits in the middle of the header so there was plenty of room. I just wouldn’t want to make an error and go over the edge. 😳

What’s the test weight on the wheat up there this year? I’ve heard it’s really good in places. One report was 65lbs per bushel. I’ve never seen test weights this high before.

That’s pretty high! Most of this grain is going in the grain bin so we don’t have all the data that others might.

I have driven by Manley hundreds of times going down Highway 50 to see my cousins in Syracuse and Unadilla. I was a shop teacher and worked with a guy name, Randy Flanagan from weeping water for a couple of decades. It sure was a shock when his wife died.

You guys are 115 south of Shelby Mt where Welker Farms is located. For the past 3 years they have had terrible yields due to lack of rain. It’s amazing how thick the wheat is that y’all are combining. Hard to believe 115 miles is so much difference in rainfall. Great looking wheat!!

Since you’re in Montana, I’ve been watching Welker farms, combining peas. They will be doing their wheat afterwards, but it’s pretty dry there and they’re not gonna have anything even near 40 bushels. I don’t know if you watch the other farmer on RU-vid, but I thought you’d be interested in the walkers since they’re in Montana

No, we’re cutting winter wheat. The green wheat you see in the videos is the spring wheat.

Actually, we only have one 50’ header. The other one is 45’. The combines Jim and I are driving have 40’ heads.

@@ZeorianHarvestingTrucking Aaaahh, I counted 10 sections on the headers and "normally" they are 5 feet per section, now a see the 35ft and 45ft have an extra smaller section, ......... thanks for the update 😉😊

I'm sure you've probably watched Welker farms in Montana. Do you know how far away you are from them ??

I hate to tell you this but, no, I have not. I’m not sure where they are located.

Tracy's farm where they are at the moment and the Welkers is ± 73 miles apart as the crow flies, in between there's Kate Stephens ( Kates AG - Farm to Fashion ), she's ± 30 miles ( Dutton area ) from the ( Highwood ) farm, she has also harvest videos. 😉
