I've silenced my hunger for such a long time, I'm really finding it difficult to hear it now. I'm practising though and using the hunger scale.

Right while I was watching this, my stomach started to grumble. I opened up a container of mango, as I allowed to savor that treat - and with each bite, as you have counseled in the past I said to myself "I've got you...".

i started getting aneorexic with food - i could feel hungry but could override it and feel weak and that was ok. not! boy it makes me mad! it's so true - i've been dieting since my 30s am now 67 and just cannot do "another diet.." and it's true i started regaining more and more weight.

I've found that I am very afraid of primal hunger simply because I spent years in this push-pull scenario of fasting and developing GERD. The acid was mimicking hunger and I was so confused and wary over letting myself get so hungry, yet still moralising the idea of hunger. I would end up feeling faint and irritated and the only thing I could was get me to the damn food, no matter what I was doing.

I'm 62 yrs old and have successfully starved myself since I was 13 yrs old. I was never fat but wanted to be skinny. I am that person who just cannot face another diet. I don't overeat but I have hypothyroidism and am on 2 medications that cause weight gain. Without starving my self like 500 calories a day and tons of walking I cannot even maintain my weight anymore. Do you have any advice for someone like me? I am very obese now😢.

Honor my hunger sounds so backwards when I have struggled with binging for so long. I am not sure I truly know when i am hungry because i need food instead of just wanting it. Thank you

This is a very common question from those dealing with a long history of binge eating. Many times one element of treatment includes a "prescribed" eating plan to ensure that you are nourishing your body at regular and consistent intervals. Just as you would take any prescribed medicine at regular intervals, you will eat your prescribed food at regular intervals. The hunger/fullness signals do not immediately reappear, but by regularly nourishing your body, binges often decrease both in frequency and intensity. Deprivation or under eating eventually leads to overeating and binging. I hope you can find a professional certified in IE to work with you along your journey. I wish you all the best.
