Phew. I was a little nervous there but you managed to pull it off. A little gaff when you said their pawn could move two squares but at least you were overly cautious where you were calculating moves that weren’t even legal

Yep, good patience and accuracy in the face of fast play again. That trading sequence they didn't look far enough into the future.

I think h6 might have allowed you to castle without risking a damaged pawn structure at 3:15, so that your pawn would not be hanging if your knight got taken. Either way, great game today! :) You outplayed your opponent tactically in the end there, and won a nice game, Patrick :)

Pat theres an IM called Alex Banzea (or something) that advises against an early queen B6 move and at all, in general. He advises his students not to follow those lines. Although of course it’s worked out in this case. But usually your waiting for their mistakes and rules out minority attack which is the main attack in caro.

exactly, that would have been an interesting and illegal pawn move

I hate it when I miss an illegal move.

How on earth did that opponent get to 1350 - they had 3 mins extra but blundered because they never spent any time thinking through that capture sequence!

Nice game. The only improvement that I think is worth mentioning is your "French Bishop" (light squared) was what you should have been looking to move to e7 and then to b5 to try and trade it off for his good Bishop. Your dark squared Bishop was better defending your Knight and trading it gave your opponent a nice pawn chain that a better player would have exploited. He also could have traded your Knight for his dark squared Bishop and left your pawns in a mess. When the centre is closed casting is not so urgent and sometimes not advisable. Going forward, even if you end up choosing a move that exploits the position with pieces you have already developed, you should ALWAYS be talking about pieces that are not yet developed and deciding where they would be best placed. You SHOULD have been talking about the problem if your light squared Bishop every move after you played e6. It should be on your mind even though there were other issues to deal with first. In future games there may be things you need to exploit first before you develop a piece or improve a piece that is badly placed, but really try and give some attention every move to good pieces and bad pieces so your thinking moves in the right direction. Once again, congratulations on the win. Hope to see you back over 1500 soon

Sometimes better to be lucky than good. I thought Q B6 was a bad move but your opponent failed to respond.

You inspire me to make videos like you :) I just need to make time for this. I think it will be verry instructive (since i’m around 1800 elo otb), but problem is that english is not my first language and also, I’m a bit scared to show my face 😅

A white pawn on c3 cannot move two squares in one move. But let's imagine it could. Then black could have taken en passant. What a very strange hallucination there. Black also managed to shift an exchange Caro-Kann into an French Advance structure with their light-square bishop trapped behind the pawn chain. If you focus your study on openings, learn the structures so that you can avoid such disadvantageous transpositions. Ideas, not moves.

Gg. I wish you'd adjust ur settings to only play opponents within 25 and above.

Why not just g6? Then your opponent blundered, he could have played Nd2,

Qb6 wasn't the greatest move, but it's probably Patrick's favorite. The opponent rewarded him for it, which probably will give positive reinforcement, making it even harder to break the habit. (At this point it is a habit, as there is very little evidence that the move was the result of serious analysis of the position.)

Seems your only wins lately have been when the opponent blunders… I have not seen any tactical wins lately from your side which may explain why your rating has been falling.

Still giving away your good bishop for no reason. Doesn’t make sense.
