Sometimes I forget that these videos won't always be here every day. Just letting you know I love the relaxing ritual your videos have become in my life and I will always look back on this time of watching them each day fondly, if nothing else you will always have given many of us many enjoyable hours of entertainment. I hope you continue your journey to 2000

Congrats on the win Patrick!! I discovered your channel a few months ago and I gotta say I really love following your adventure. I think you shouldn’t worry so much about your rating points and should try to enjoy the game a bit more, like you used to. Don’t lose faith, I’m sure you’ll get to 2000 eventually!

First and foremost congratulations. You are the first "chess everyday until 2000" RU-vidr that I followed. More of this style of play. Go back and watch your videos and see what you've done when you were at your peak and winning vs now. Review the thoughts you say out loud. Its just being calm, comfortable and confident

small note here patrick, the engine likes Qa5 in the opening, because it forces the knight to go to c3, when the pawn should be going there to support d4. It's still equal, but you gave white a weakness you can attack later in the game.

Ok. Hear me out. I’m a football coach, so we’ll see if this translates. What matters here is that you’re here. You’re going to have slumps. You’re going to plateau. You’re going to make mistakes. Your goal isn’t to win every game, or even most games. It’s to not make the same mistake. It’s to grow and get better. Your ELO is a fine goal, but it’s not a good measure of your growth. Focus on something more controllable. Make the right move. Stay focused. Create good habits. You can do this. You just need to set smaller, more realistic goals on the way to 2000. What are you working on in today’s game? What’s the theme of the week? What’s your goal this week, outside of ELO? Stop thinking about your game in wins and losses, and just stay focused used and positive on a goal you can set on a week-to-week basis. This will improve your confidence and make you feel like you can achieve your goals on the way to improving to a 2000-ELO player.

@boblester1726 Месяц назад
It is good advice, but you need to change the way you do puzzles. Calculate the entire line before you play the first move. TBH, I don't expect you'll do that because it's hard.
@deafralph
@deafralph Месяц назад
I agree with using 1 opening you’re comfortable with. 1 opening can beat any openings. Go from there. Don’t think and look at the board. Attack and tempo is important to be in control of the game. Puzzles is good but puzzles won’t happen in your game.
@neverbrokeagain191
@neverbrokeagain191 Месяц назад
@@deafralph Puzzles teach you how to think tactically. Even if the specific positions won't occur in real games, the themes certainly will, and having a mindset of calculation will help you even if they don't.

Hi patrick. I have played 4500 games of 15/10 and have had 200 point swings off the top more than once. I started e4, then d4, then the stonewall attack, then the london as white. keep learning. Its a slow process. Honestly 427 days is a newbie to chess. 10 years is an intermediate. keep grinding. Also, twice I took a 2month break. Both times I watched video but did not play a single game. Both times I cam back stronger.

At 22:46 you can make your life much easier by playing f4. His king can no longer approach and infiltrate, your pawn is one square closer to queening and you no longer have to calculate, it's an incredibly simple win. Blocking an opposing king out with side-by-side passers is an important pawn endgame technique.

In 7 out of your last 10 losses you have been in a winning/even position until you have less than 2min left when you start blundering due to time pressure. You need to start playing 15+10, you have the time judging by how many blitz games you play.

At the same time, I don’t want to presume that it’s the negativity in the comments that’s threatening to sap the joy out of this for you, but if it is, I hope you’ll consider going comments off (or stop reading them) before throwing the baby out with the bath water. Well Patrick - Then some love from me. Your efforts are admirable. And here is an observation and a piece of advice: When you analyze your games, you should not pay the majority of your attention to the specific take-take-take and take outcome. Instead you should try to figure out, which principle(s) that forms the underlying general reason(s) (principle(s)) for a certain move to be labeled best move. Afterwards, while playing your next games, then scan through your (hopefully) remembered list of situational applicable principles and chose the candidate move that you think fits the progression of the game best in our favor. Best regards from Denmark - Bent.

Sach means truth in Hindi. So: truthdiscovered? Play b5, you see that, but h5 attacks the pawn, you saw it play it, there is nothing better. Now with his bishop on d7 you can see why Rc8 was bad and why you should play b5 earlier. It blocks his bishop out a general principle to recall. Don't give your opponent good squares, in general for his pieces. Do you even see the gaping white hole on e6? He does not go back he wins a pawn with Be6+ a complete surprise. Another 1 move attack you did not see. All of that was stopped with b5 tough the pawn was still weak, the knight could defend it, or a rook. Move your King up in the endgame. f6 is better as it gives the king more scope, he might be needed on the queenside. f4, blocking his king out, you want to limit his king moves and he can't attack your pawns. Very elementary principles you never learned. Still, nice win. You did the right thing after he fell behind you traded down and marched you past pawns down the board. See how simple chess is. Good Game! ++ How many times did the machine recommend b5, like 3, or did I lose count. 0-0 for white is mistake since the bishop is overloaded, and your mt threat.

Okay - I bring to mind this little thought my sister shared with me. I don’t know if it’s origins but it has helped me in my down times. We all go through ups and downs. And using the analogy of mountains and valleys, we aim to be on top. Or moving up. The journey to the top is hard, it’s uncomfortable. It makes you bleed at times. We need to be brought down, (we need this), to be in the valley where we can bring clarity of path, where we can step back and maybe reimagine a new way. The peaks are harsh, rewarding yes, but you can only last on the top of Everest for so long. You need to go back in order to move farther forward than you ever have. I am really enjoying this channel. And I know little to nothing about chess!!

Dang Patrick. This is Old-Man on a different account. You still suffering through. I’m impressed! Chess is a cruel mistress for sure. Sometimes the best thing for your chess is a good break. Like a few months. Purge it from your system. Then when your mind starts wanting to play again you come back a little better from your previous foundation. You build a little. Get burned out. Repeat the cycle. Chess is a game you learn through your life time. Not something that can be mastered in a short period of time. But you do you. You got that YT following and can probably monetize this if you haven’t. So I get that as well. Good luck man 🍻

Really happy that you won! However... I have a feeling you might be sleep deprived or perhaps could benefit from intense puzzle training. Sometimes when I'm tired, I can tell by the fact that I'm missing obvious things such as how knights move or how pawns can capture pieces. (For example, you were worried a rook might kick out your queen while missing that the pawn could capture the rook. This caused you to make a mistake while moving your knight). Similarly, missing that your knight could have been captured as your pawn was pinned at the end... or the fact that their bishop could deliver a check at the end, winning a pawn (or even more, you were going to move your rook right in the spot where it could have gotten pinned). I really feel as if that's sleep related... or puzzles. Either way, it feels as if one of these things need to be addressed before moving on!

You need help with seeing and implementing tactics otherwise you’re just moving pieces and hoping for a positive outcome. You missed a strong tactic in the early middle game when you could have taken the pawn with the knight and potentially then pawn with bishop to attack queen and threaten mate.
