I love watching CWP; yelling at him when he makes mistakes, celebrating when he finds the good moves, yelling at him when he actually makes a great move that I didn't appreciate until it plays out...what a rollercoaster. Great game, work on playing in time scrambles Patrick, its your biggest weakness and mixing in fast time control games and/or puzzle rush could make a big difference in your win rate.

@@chesswithpatrickI am 62 played Chess 50 years .. players talk of a three result game that’s Win/Lose/Draw sometimes like your game above the choose to swap if ahead to a two result position that’s Win/Draw , you had a chance at the end to remove his center pawn and force queens of the board, then you are a endgame Knight up, thats. Win/draw as you virtually can’t lose anymore

One thing I've noticed in your games Patrick is that you seem to be quite happy exchanging bishops for knights, as though they were of equal value. I have news for you - they're not - latest thinking is that a bishop is worth about 3.2 points - makes sense actually as everyone would prefer 2 bishops to 2 knights right ? Ok there are closed positions in which the knights are better, and they're very tricky pieces - but the fact is that by giving up your bishop for a knight without any compensation you're giving your opponent's bishop free run of that colour complex. So I never exchange B for knight unless there's some clear compensation.
@montagdp
@montagdp Месяц назад
He does it almost every game. The engine gives it an orange question mark. He skips past it in the analysis without thinking about it and goes and does it again in the next game.

Maybe he dooesnt like the white bishop.😊 But wow its a strange play , specially as he keeps doing it. Everybody and also the analysis keeps telling its a bad play . Something is a bit weird i.m.o But wish Patrick the best. 2.000 ELO is of course totally out of reach keep on playing like this
@davidyoung3452
@davidyoung3452 Месяц назад
@@jacobpallesen3558 which leads to Patrick's other problem - the computer analysis will only point out tactical errors, never give him any positional advice, so he's really not learning the fundamentals, just repeating his mistakes
@chesswithpatrick

I’ll try to keep this in mind David. I think I saw in a video that in the Grand Prix exchanging is ok.
@davidyoung3452
@davidyoung3452 Месяц назад
@@chesswithpatrickmy question Patrick is why exchange - what is the rationale behind it ? You've just spent a tempo on developing the B and then you immediately exchange it off, leaving your opponent's QB in charge of the white squares, opening the b file for your opponents rook and strengthening his pawn centre.

It’s pretty common in the Grand Prix to do that. However I do agree he has that tendency and there’s no reason in that situation because he has the pin and there’s no threat to the bishop

In the Grand Prix I think I’m supposed to. At least that’s what I saw in a video lesson I was watching. I also trade in the caro kann to get rid of a defender of a center pawn. But I’ll try to remember that moving forward thank you!

Should’ve played d3 instead of d4 in the Grand Prix attack. You want to close the center and attack on the king side. Playing d4 opened everything up.

When you analyse the games afterwards you completely disregard the engine's answers e.g at 38:00 Nd5 is completely winning but you decide taking the pawn is better... baffling :)
@baka1949
@baka1949 Месяц назад
Yeah, he doesn't even look at the engine lines, just tries to figure it out like a puzzle and eventually takes a hint. Not a bad approach to begin with, but sometimes you really need to see the engine line to understand why a move is the best in a given position.

Patrick .. your still not “seeing” the board .. you take way to much time to see your Queen on a4 can take the Bishop on e4 .. you don’t even have in your head that your rook MUST stay on the 7 rank or he plays p x q … You just don’t seem to be aware scanning over and over how everything connects across the board Still keep doing puzzles .. oh and the same ones over and over , if you can’t solve in seconds you can’t remember and you are trying to embed tactical awareness in your brain NOT solve puzzles, that’s the method not the aim

This was a sad one. You wanted to solve for a mate when you were up a knight. That’s fine but if you can’t quickly see the entire mating pattern, and it wasn’t a very clear one here, just focus 200% of your effort on trading pieces to get to an end game up material. The engine says that’s a mistake but you’re still +3.5 and will more easily win.

Spoiler Alert! YOU WILL GET PAST THIS! HEAD UP PATRICK! I Tilted 230 points and i'm finally back in recovery mode. If I can do it, you will too. It's not impossible to come back from these tilts. Keep playing and study like mad. Do as many puzzles as you can and play a few high quality games. If you would like to collaborate, i'd love to try to help. I'm only 1605 at my peak rating but i'd be happy to help. I look forward to these videos every day. Most importantly, don't give up. One day WHEN you hit 2000 you will look back on all these tilts and watch some of these videos and laugh your ass off. We all will. You just need to do one thing to fix all these mistakes: Think about what the opponent's best next move before you play your move. It happened twice that you moved and then though about your opponent's move... and instantly realized you blundered. This is a clear sign that you aren't thinking at all about your opponents moves which is causing you to lose.
@EricLancheres
@EricLancheres Месяц назад
Here's an easy exercise, in the next game, predict your opponent's next best move (the response) before you make your move. Do this for every-single-move of the game and you'll develop the habit of predicting your opponent's move. You'll be back to 1500 in no time with this.

Agree with the top comment. You go for a night/bishop pin in alsmost every game you play, then you trade your bishop for a night. Watch any Grandmaster games, and watch how infrequently they knight/bishop pin and more infrequently take the night after pinning. You do it way too much.

@stephenwells1559
@stephenwells1559 Месяц назад
@abdielneris4957 you can't memorise every opening and certainly not every line in it. Every move deserves some basic considerations. It doesn't have to be long, but there were multiple positional mistakes made in the first 6 moves.
@blogattacker
@blogattacker Месяц назад
Patrick usually wastes like 4 minutes in the opening, when he reaches middle game he is usually 5 minutes down and endgame like 7 minutes down.
@stephenwells1559
@stephenwells1559 Месяц назад
@blogattacker I know. But the issue is not the time taken, but the reason why he wastes time. It's WHAT he dithers over when he spends minutes on a move, not where in the game he does it. Opening, middle or end game, it's what he is obsessing over that is the problem not what stage of the game he is at when he chews up his clock. He spends minutes on "if this and IF he does that, THEN IF I do this..... BUT IF I do this, then IF...." Instead EVERY move just a few seconds on the NEXT move of his opponent ONLY in response to whatever move he is thinking of, then IMMEDIATELY reject that move OR if his opponent can't do anything bad in response IMMEDIATELY make the move, then at all stages of the game he would make his moves in a timely manne. The Chess Vibes channel with Nelson is a great place to learn this basic way of approaching each move. If he combined this way of spending his time, combined with the principle of ALWAYS develop and ALWAYS look to move a different piece if possible, then he would choose good moves faster and check them for blunders and positional errors faster. As it is he is now rushing through openings and making beginner mistakes and then STILL wasting time later in the game and running into time trouble
@GodsatGaming
@GodsatGaming Месяц назад
Playing impulsively is usually always a mistake. If your opponent doesn't play the move you are expecting take more time to try to figure out their plan!
