You’re an honest technician bro! Like how you put yourself in a customers situation. Unlike other dealers or shops that recommend ppl stuff you dont need
Nice tour of the shop, thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I was very happy to find out last week that Honda decided to extend the warranty on Torque Converters for the 17-18 Pilots as mine is already showing signs of slipage at only 87K!!! and customers being charged $4-8Ks for that job.
and people say bmws are the problem and unreliable , rather drop 4k on my 600hp bmw that drives it self with massaging seats than a max 300hp lifeless fwd honda
Would have been nice to be a mechanic back in the day when Hondas were way more reliable than they are now,all you were doing then was maintenance and minor things.
You sir have no idea what your talking about. For one every car has a designated maintenance chart for when they are due to for maintenance, and you SHOULD follow it. Every car has common issues that customers never have to worry about bc of recalls or preventative maintenance under warranty. Honda and Toyota are as good and bad as they’ve ever been. I work in at least 2 or 3 of each a day and I’d say they are the only companies worth buying your daily driver from. There’s not a car out there that you can ignore maintenance and get away with never seeing a a shop.
Idk if you’ll see this or anyone and I recently just stated to work at happy Honda in Houston and it’s a really cool job, My co workers are amazing and it’s just been really cool working mainline.
@@CHUCKNORRIZSFOOT I was at ford for just over a year. I did get the job, loving it so far. It’s the same thing I was already doing at ford and also Bell tire for about 2 years so was a really easy transition.
Great video man! I’m in a completely different field (financial analytics), but I enjoyed watching your detailed and relatable video. Keep it up and hope you get the break you deserve.
Something brought to my attention when you mentioned on the last car you worked on is saying "let's see what cn we sell here" then soon after you are not going ti tell your advisor things that this car not needed immediately. Dealers like always to sell so they can mantain finances stable. Mechanics nowadays don't get paid fairly. Good luck!
My Honda dealer must be one of a kind. We seem to charge less than every other dealer for maintenance. We get 0.3 for A service, 0.4 for tire rotation, 0.5-0.8 for mm3 (depending on transmission), 2.1 (4cyl) and 3.8 (v6) for mm4, 0.5 for mm5, 0.3 for mm6, 0.5 for mm7 and 1.4 for mm9 (Bservice).
@@daveclark8337 no we don’t. The There’s honestly nothing wrong with the BG kits, Wynn is another company that makes similar products. The engine oil cleaners are definitely worth doing every once and awhile, especially since no one properly maintains their cars. Honda’s maintenance minder in my opinion is flawed, from 100% to 0% should be no more than 5000-6000 miles, the fact it can reach 10000 miles is ridiculous. For those going past 6k miles, I would be recommending an oil cleaner additive every 2nd or 3rd oil change. I believe at my dealership an oil change/tire rotation/brake fluid exchange is about $275 CAD plus tax (labor rate $120 CAD/hour)
I’m in school for my ASE certs but i don’t plan on working anywhere it’s just for more knowledge. I like watching these videos but I only do work on my own cars but Dang that was a lot of hours you worked. Do you get paid a commission with the labor hours? I have access to shop key which I use now if I need to but just curious.
Question. What is the difference between a Line Tech vs an Express Tech at Honda? I noticed this video is kind of based on some Lube Tech daily duties (depending where one works) as my roomate just joined our local Honda Dealership in the DC Area.
Everything is expensive these days which is another reason why I do my own maintenance on my Honda and Toyota. I can’t justify paying $500+ for the oil change, tire rotation, additives ( which most manufacturers don’t recommend) and brake fluid exchange. BG and Dealerships are making $$$
Dope video bro , since you in California even as flat rate don’t you still get paid a certain amount of hours regardless of the hours you make as flate rate
good on you for eating healthier, been doing the same and have lost 40 pounds and cut my fat percentage from a 42% to a 29% let me know if you need any tips.
Nice video! Haha people don't understand that as a mechanic a car is like an office so if you leave it nasty it's like working in a nasty office. Just clean it up a little to let the tech know you care 😁.
honestly I worked at toyota for a while and as much as I loved that job the management was terrible. The dealership life was not for me so went a different direction. But honestly do just in general miss working on cars everyday.
Those sunvisors break all the time. I need to replace the one on my father's 2019 Pilot as a matter of fact. They've gotten quite expensive over the years!
How do you like your Earthquake gun? I got the 1200# model, and even with 3/8" line and high flow fittings like they recommend, it can't even break lugnuts free on my Volvo
Nice video man. Your videos on celicas is what got me here a long time ago. I have a question unrelated to the video, have you ever encounter a gap on oem TRD side skirts? When I installed them using the hardware are hole locations the rear of the lip does not touch the reaer wheel arch. Thanks in advance 😅.
@@2zzlow I don't think it's a replica I removed it from a crash car along with the rear TRD lip and spoiler. I'll check the part number I believe it had a Toyota number on it.
Nice video. I'm curious about the fluids. So someone in parts prepares everything for you for each job? How do they determine what additives are needed or which cars need additives?
When the service advisor writes up an RO (repair order) the system automatically sends the info to parts. They receive a “pick order” and that sheet tells them what is on the ro and they’ll know what products to pull. They’ll set them out with a note or some way to note what ro the parts go to. Tech matches their ro with the pick order and takes them back to the bay for their service. As far as BG or other companies (my dealership uses Daytona/10MM) it’s just additives. Does it help? Sure but it sky rockets the cost for the customer. That atf service shouldn’t cost 300$ for just a 6spd trans. At my dealership the 9/10 spd trans start around 300$ because of the fluid it takes and the process. But that’s not of concern.
The short of being a tech Stress Not getting paid properly or service writers cutting labor to make the sale Warranty jobs for free when customers complain alot for something that has nothing to do with anything you did.
been changing oil all my life. I did not know to add an oil additive (EPA bottle) before draining the oil to remove more impurities. And adding ATC to the tranny before draining ATF fluid. Is this snake oil or does the process work to remove more impurities?
FUCK BEING A MECHANIC!!! i hated dealership life service works give you dumb tickets & mess up your time on top of that the owners don’t even acknowledge your hard work by far the worst trade to get into in 2024 & on !!!!
LOl what an easy life nothing but services and snake oil. lol I thought you said not to recommend things that were not needed at 15:41 those pads look to be at 50% why are you replacing them, I am just wondering, not like I'm a very good mechanic lol. don't tell me the customer said they were squeaking,
I was a Honda B tech about 10+ years ago. Funny to see not much has changed as far as routine in dealers lol. I remember everything even down to the Food truck arrival, and the bullshit additives upsell 😂. I went in a different direction career wise, once one of the top paid techs at my shop of almost 20yrs told me he only made about $26/hr flat rate. No money in the business unless you go to an Indy or open your own shop. Good luck, get them ASEs paid and bounce lol.
Good video. My hats off to you its hard work for sure. Back in 2001 I worked as a Lube Tech at a Ford Dealer for their Motorcraft Fast Lube lane. Flat time. Not hourly. Every oil change paid 0.3 of an hour. With a Tire Rotation w/ Brake Inspection 0.6. After 4 years I couldn't do it no more. Surviving on tenths of an hour. I don't know if you were paid hourly or flat rate, but back then you had to hustle! And look for extra crap to tell the advisor to upsell on flushes, air filters, etc. Flat rate is rough being a tech back then I don't know, I don't want to know either lol.
I never met someone with a lift that lifts it all the way up to take tires off. You take tires off at waist height then go all the way up save your back buddy
They don’t weight that much. Biggest wheel we have is from a pilot 20 inch wheel. I’m an arcade operator and my job involves moving and lifting heavy arcade games. Lifting up tires is nothing for me
@@rileykoziol1005 what do you mean the additives come with warranties on the specific component? so if im using an additive and the component goes bad, the company will warranty the component? I don't believe this for a second!
@gtmonyfckbtchs The dealer I work for has a kit you buy that comes with a engine, fuel, transmission, and coolant additive and as long as there is paperwork to prove you used the additives, the company honors a 6 month warranty on whatever components got the additive. They mainly put them in used cars when they sell them but customers can buy it too
