Man this is so nice to see. My dad was a BMW master tech for a few years before he passed away in 2008, and I'd never seen how he did any of his work. Obviously things are different from how they were back then, but having this insight into what he did is really comforting to see. I've been a car guy my whole life, and he was and still is a huge inspiration to me for what I want to do for my career.

I was born and raised in Alhambra, I graduated Alhambra High School in 1986, during my sophomore year my mom bought a 1970 BMW 2002 that needed a little work. One of the issues was the hand crank on the sunroof, my dad found that it was just missing a screw and went down to then Century BMW, the guy at the parts counter looked it up and it would cost $50.00 from the dealer, we soon realized that bare minimum price for any part on a BMW back then was fifty bucks. My dad went down the street to G/H imports and bought the screw for .25 c. Back then Century had a storage lot across for it's cars with signs all over that read No Radios In Cars to avoid thievery. I wonder if that worked???

im in the same boat brotha, im not ASE certified but i started working as an entry level at a independent shop who specialize in mostly euro’s, im a big BMW enthusiast so i got the chance to work on them for a while until, BMW had an open position as a lube tech, although i have a whole list of experience when i started working at the shop from replacing heater cores, engine swaps, transmission swaps, transfer case swaps, oil changes, brake jobs, you name it pretty much alot of improvement and knowledge from when i started, with BMW i will start off as a lube technician but slowly work my way to my ASE’s and training with them. But look around for shops that will be willing to give you a shot to learn and experience the mechanical field.

I’m in the same boat also. I actually have an e92 335i also. Had it for 7 years now and started turning wrenches on it slowly. Biggest jobs I did was replace turbos and drop the tranny for rear main seal. I was thinking of working for a shop starting from the bottom but the pay isn’t so great. I make 30$ hr doing simple maintenance so it’s difficult to take a pay cut.

How is the dealership culture down there? Looks very busy. Up in Alaska it’s pretty cliquey. Work was fine everything else was drama and BS, mostly from not enough work for everyone and favoritism for work orders, you had to seek it out and really rely on upsells, PDI’s or used cars.

ICE motors will probably not be gone in your lifetime. I say this being a High Voltage Tech (Electric Car Guy) at a dealership. Is it true that Toyota's are built to last while BMWs are only good for the warranty
@LetsDriftMedia
@LetsDriftMedia 2 года назад
Every dealership relies on warranty, I will always say Toyota is built to last vs BMW but no matter what brand you work for you will always see more warranty repairs than customer pay repairs you have to consider there are alot of warranty recalls that add to the scale.
@SI0AX
@SI0AX 2 года назад
@@LetsDriftMedia Yeah, I heard everyone hates warranty work because the car manufacturer puts very low hours on the job so the technician ends up getting paid less for their work.

It’s obvious BMW almost fire you because they know it doesn’t take 1 hour to change a taillight bulb but they for sure will make the customer wait 1 hour to get that $98 per hour labor rate. truth is BMW make more money on services than sale

@@SI0AX I’m sure they have talked to him regarding recording the work place. He also have mentioned in the video that he couldn’t post the this video online while he was working for BMW. I’m sure BMW didn’t want him to show things like OSHA violations by the techs, or whatever shady things that could have happened there behind the scene.
