I've just found your channel. Now I'm binge watching your videos. I love how relaxed and wholesome you are on camera. Like watching a close friend..💛 Love your sense of humour too.
your garden is really coming along! your husbands tilling looked great. i remember my mother having a good size garden when i was little in oregon. i'm thinking our neighbor came in and did the tilling - had to have brought a horse in to do it. it was a very long time ago. i bet the blueberries would be good on ice cream! nice to get some rain. we need it badly in california. hot and very very dry. have a good night!
Normal nights we don’t do anything extra to the beans. Some nights I get a little “extra” and add ketchup, mustard, bacon chunks and brown sugar and bake them for awhile
My husband and I have started a small garden of cucumbers, tomatoes, watermelon, and carrots and cantaloupes! We are so excited to grow some of our own produce! 🎉🎉 Great looking garden y’all have! The breakfast looks so good too!
That was a great video, love seeing all the interesting ways your preserve your garden veggies, & how you put it all together to make great meals for your family . looking forward to the next video , Your hubby is doing a great job on the garden.. looking forward to the next video .
I just worked my way through a package of brats (it's just me). I fry them like you do (no grill either) and I like the idea of using some chicken broth to stem them so will try that. I should have remembered some kraut since I have quite a few cans I should be using. I don't can but have a ton of canned goods. Slaw and beans are staples/sides with me. Will try doing my own brown sugar soon, thanks for that idea.
You're welcome Cynthia! I'm trying to use up my kraut as well. My old boss gave me cabbage, tomatoes and peppers when Covid hit because it was all going to go bad when they had to close down for a bit. I was fine with it but made so much kraut!! Haha. I'm still working on it!
@@mamabairds I love kraut but tend to just use it in my crockpot poured over a pork roast, hot dogs, kielbasa or whatever, then I make mashed potatoes. I always tend to have leftovers and just freeze what I have and use it later. I like it all times of the year but especially in the fall and winter. I keep forgetting you can use kraut as a condiment/relish even cold from the fridge on hot dogs or brats. I used to make cabbage rolls with kraut (the way my mom always made it) but again with just me, it's a lot of trouble, even though I love them. If somebody handed me heads of cabbage, though, I'd probably get my sister involved. Lol.
Nice day in the life!!!! Thank you!!! I love how you explain and teach as you go!!!! Very appreciative!!! Enjoy the rain!! We’re so rain starved here in Northern California!!! 😀
Just found you tonight and gave you a sub! I love the way you make it feel as if I am just a neighbor that stopped by for a visit and a cup of coffee! You are so very relatable! I wish more people on social media were like you...real people!
Hey Carolina you were ablevto get some good stuff on your wic it's been 10 years since I got it and it has changed I remember milk, cheese, beans, cereal, baby food, baby cereal, formula I think that was about it I like that you get fruit and tortillas. I haven't watched Ozark but I want to if I can ever get time without cartoons my autistic 18 year old watches PBS all day maybe when he is in summer school next week.
WIC has improved so so much! You can get blocked, shredded or string cheese 1% milk, powdered milk or goats milk whole wheat bread, pasta, brown rice or wheat tortillas $25 per kid for fresh/frozen/canned fruits and veggies cereal, oatmeal, or malt ol meal 1 dozen eggs per kid 2 gallons of juice per kid It really is so amazing and helpful! Our family is going to miss it for sure. Those darn kids hogging up the TV! Haha! Same thing happens here. Love ya girl!!
@@mamabairds wow it has greatly improved getting fresh produce is wonderful and then the only cheese you could get was a big block cereal was cheerios I am so glad they made improvements to the program and please don't think I am not thankful for what I got from the program just glad that the program has added in some fresh produce and better options for choose love your channel and your family.
@@angelafleming3328 I agree! I am so happy they have added more and you have more options. You also get a quart of yogurt. And if you don't want the cheese or yogurt you can get more milk. And peanut butter or beans canned or dry you can get. Oh 3 gallons of milk each as well. And now its all on a card instead of checks! Thats great too!
I do the samething when l make waffles and pancakes. It is just me now and since l still tend to cook at times like l did when l was a family of 7. I just package up the left overs and freeze. My freezer is my friend. I hear so many senior complain about not having enough food. But if they would stop eating out everyday and fix food at home, drop their pride and use the food bank they would be have enough money and food each month.
Yes I agree. My mom eats out so much and then complains about not having money. It's hard for her to keep up with cooking though. I wished she lived closer to me.
I moved my Mom to Arizona after my Dad passed 5 yrs ago. I make meals for her and put in her freezer so all she had to do was warm up in the microwave. I made up waffles as well so all she had to do was pop into toaster. She still did some cooking for herself. I got a lot of criticism on how l took care of her. But l knew the more l did for her the less she would do for herself. My Mom passed away on Sept 16th of this year. She just made her 93rd birthday on August 29th. She died at home not in a nursing home.
I love and enjoy your videos I’m binge watching all of them lol as I’m typing… but I wanted to know what that cloth material was in your freezer? I’ve never seen that before!
@@mamabairds awwww yes that what I saw that’s so sweet! I love how you just let your kids be. No judgement towards the little things that they like!! I’m gonna actually try that blanket hack myself 😆 . My husband is gonna be so confused when he open our deep freezer!! 🤣🤣
What was the brine ratio of vinegar and water in the canned coleslaw? I would like to try to can some. Right now, I have some sweet onions to can up and make pickled sliced sweet onion relish for sandwiches. Sam's Club had some large bags of sweet onions at a great price, so I bought a couple of bags to make this amazing recipe. I got that recipe from Taste of Home Jams, Jellies, Pickles and More cookbook. It is a small batch cookbook when you want to make a jar or two to store in the refrigerator. The onion recipe makes four half pints to water bath. I plan to double or triple it. It is a nice cookbook that give recipes for small amounts of produce that you don't want to waste and need ideas to extend its shelf life. When you run across a cookbook like this, don't pass it up because there is amazing flavor combos that can be adapted to large batch canning.
I did 1 part apple cider vinegar to 2 parts sugar. I'll be making that again very soon and will make sure to do a video on it. That sounds like a very handy cook book indeed!! I'll be keeping my eye out for it. I went to a used book store the other day but didn't find anything good. I have better luck at good will.
@@mamabairds Thanks. There is a store near me called "Ollie's", that sell discontinued merchandise. I find Taste of Home cookbooks there bran new with deep discounts. I just bought some special interest laminated magazine cookbooks for $1.99 each and they normally sell for $12.99. These were back issues. I got ground beef, comfort foods, greatest hits, contest winners. and ect. This was Sunday when I went and I have been in recipe heaven ever since because I spent my birthday money on them.
If you can water bath can in the pressure canner, why do you need a water bath canner? Sorry, I'm a city girl. Other folks that can have both types of canners. However, when you canned those plums, you did a water bath in your pressure canner. I'm confused, since I've never canned. Thank you!
Water bath canners are bigger and they have a rack that you can pull up that takes all the jars out at once. They can have their uses for sure! You can use any pot though. As long as their is a rack or a towel on the bottom of the pot so the jars don't touch the bottom of the pan and enough water to cover the lids by and inch
I don't know if I can describe the taste. kinds like a leafy green. They really depend take on whatever sauce you use to dip them in! That's the real winner!!
@@cindyherring727 yes! That's what my channel is all about! Ask me anything! I have an email as well so it would be easier to keep up a conversation! mamabaridspantry@gmail.com
