I am not sure if I commented already, but I am glad that I found you. I have done a video with a Medical Social Worker before, I’d love to have you on my channel to share the black perspective. On the intro subject, I love how you pointed out the lack of initiative of the medical staff. When people wait around, not only did that delay her discharge, it added to the bill.

Thanks for watching! Exactly, it’s a challenge I think all systems face, we are working hard to achieve better efficiency and care! It’s good to be aware of these challenges and barriers so we can improve the system!

I disagree about the coordination piece. That definitely sounds more social work and discharge related. have you ever heard a frazzled nurse ask none medical questions lol always a crap show but I feel your pain.

Hi Rene, thanks for watching and commenting! It does sound SW and discharge related, however, doesn't mean it can only be done by SW. Also, in this scenario it was medical related questions they would have inquired about. So my hospital is trained in MAT and everything related to it. The nurses, Charge RN's, MD's, and Resident's are all aware on how to ask questions and inquire about services. There is no SW coverage over the weekend and when it is necessary they do what needs to be done. So it is a difference for me when you CAN and or are ABLE (trained) to do something and you don't because you think "Oh that can just be done with SW". It's done when there are no SW's around. So when discharge is held up based solely on something that could have been done its frustrating when I get into the office and they are pressuring me to get it done ASAP. Think of it as everyone is trained, aware, and legally mandated reporters. A CD referral can be made by ANYONE in the hospital, however, they don't make the calls because "SW" can do it 2 days later. I've even was asked to hotline a situation I was not present for, didn't know the patient, or wasn't there to actually witness the concern, and wouldn't be able to properly answer or fill out the report questions because I wasn't there. So at that time I explained again that it would be more beneficial if the MD made the report and I can be there to help if needed.
