*For clarification, my role is more similar to a school-based therapist, however, I am a licensed social worker and do social work-related tasks. Just wanted to provide some clarity as I've been told that school social workers have a slightly different role than school-based therapists. Either way, if you have a desire to go into the field of school social work, I believe this video will still help you. I hope this helps!*

Instead of using the word displine, I use the word guidance instead. I firmly believe it is our role as adults to guide students, and sometimes that guidance may be wrapped up in a more serious/stern tone, but still followed up with love and care! Building a realtionship with students is key. When you need to be stern, they will know it's coming from a place of love and creating boundaries and not a place of punishment. And from your videos, I can already tell you have probably established those key connections with your students. Anytime I had to displine a child in a school setting, I already had built that relationship, so they know where I was coming from. I firmly believe that it is our job as adults to guide students to wiser decisions, and sometiems we have to use a stern voice and firm boundaries to do so. And then follow it up with affirming words. I hope my opinion is helpful! :D

Yes I work in schools. Using a visual timer or a sand timer may help and as far as disciplinary if the student tells me they are going to do something or get into a fight i just go through the pros and cons of the situation from the childs pov. Ill say if you do that then what can happen. Hope that helps

I just got accepted into the BSW program, and I'm really trying to figure out what to specialize in early so I can choose a minor that fits that. Thank you for showing us how your days go as a social worker! Also your hair is gorgeous!!
