🔧 In this video I just want to show you a snippet into my life in London working as a Junior Electronics Engineer.
If you guys enjoy my videos and find them entertaining and helpful in anyways and would love to somehow support me. Buy me a cup of ☕, - www.buymeacoffee.com/thomasdo
Thanks for the support and much love!
Who am I? 🤓
I'm an Electrical & Electronics Engineering student in the UK.
Born and raised in the Czech Republic. (Ethnicity: guess and comment down below :P)
I took a gap year to work for a year in London as a Junior Electronics Engineer before going back to finish my studies.
My plan is to upload more engineering-related content videos with a little bit of a lifestyle vlogs, so stay tuned if you like those videos.

Hi Thomas, I'm currently looking to study Computer Engineering, but am unsure if it is for me. I'm looking up these "day-in-the-life" style videos for a better idea of what to expect. I was hoping I could get some questions answered if possible. 1. I've always been a techie and interested in the hardware side of things. Especially building computers. However, software, coding, etc, has always been scary and I can't imagine sitting in front of a computer trying to debug code or write it to be honest. I'm currently doing IT, fixing computers, and would like to level up my job through better education. What do you think would be a best fit job wise for someone like me? 2. I was looking into chip architecture and design as a possible job to pursue. What do you think about this job if you have any experience or people you know in this field, and what sort of education do you think is most relevant? Thank you in advance!

Both careers are great and in demand. If you are interested in electronics then go for that. Personally I would say electronics is a bit more niche so only choose it if ur actually interested in it. Cybers more broad and is also great.

@ThomasDo Год назад
Definitely agree with both careers are great and in demand as well as choosing a career that you are more interested in. However, I have to disagree on the fact that electronics is a bit more niche, in my personal opinion electronics is probably the most broad subject there IS! Unless you specialise into a specific niche like FPGA, embedded or RF and etc. With an electronics degree you can literally be in any industry.

@ThomasDo
@ThomasDo 2 года назад
I might be bias here but I would say Electronics engineering as it’s such a vast field with many jobs opportunities that is not under the title “electronics” but it’s still technically speaking part of it, giving you few examples like hardware, embedded, RF, FPGA and etc. However, I’m not too knowledgeable about civil though so don’t just take my word for it and also do some digging yourself.
@MeiinUK
@MeiinUK Год назад
The next phase is actually to create more electronic devices that can detect pollution and also to remove actual pollution as well. At the moment... There isn't that kind of set up at the moment. So easy to jump onto the exact same band wagon. But.. you kind of create a niche situation then.... Robots should be able to be used to crush old materials and to carry them to factories. And then refine back into a source of raw materials. Rejuvenate back the earth.

tbh with you, I had the same struggles, there are three things you could do, 1st is brute forcing it where you just have to study twice or thrice as hard, 2nd do a project that you're really passionate about that incorporate a little bit of coding and 3rd is study with a friend who is really good at coding where they can help and you can help them back with other subjects.

Hey! I'm a fellow freshman year student studying ECE engineering. Can you tell me how can I learn hardware and even basic stuff like soldering? Coding is mostly fine as I can learn it online but I cannot do the same for Hardware.
@ThomasDo
@ThomasDo 2 года назад
Starting out with using a microcontroller is a good idea like using an Arduino, there are ton of projects online. Or doing some Raspberry Pi projects. As for soldering, I believe you can buy a soldering kit projects where everything is already built but u just have to assemble and solder them together. After you’ve learnt the basic signal protocols through various projects you can go and start designing your own PCB hardware if you want. Further designing and program your own microcontroller. Hardware is a broad term, the things I just mentioned is mainly embedded hardware but you can also be playing with FPGA or designing a simple IC chip. RU-vid tutorials are your best teacher, go search up some projects.

There is really no easy guide to learning the subject, you just have to make learning easier for you like make a friend group to study together and help each other or find an alternative book for you to get a different perspective of the theory or concepts that you are learning but the best way to gain knowledge is through doing personal projects.

Many companies these days are actively on the lookout for diverse talent in engineering, just like this one I used to work for. I remember during my time there, I heard they hired a fantastic female engineer in Spain when she was only in her second year of university. They offered her a full-time job that required her to move from Spain to the UK, and she decided to seize that opportunity rather than completing her degree. I am telling this story to illustrate that your gender shouldn't hold you back from pursuing a career in engineering. The world is evolving, and it needs unique individuals like you. So, please don't get discouraged by any doubts you might have. Go for it with all your heart, and I wish you the very best of luck on this exciting journey! (P.S When I left they also hired another female mechanical engineer!)

This June 2024 I will graduating in ECE and I would say ECE is the toughest sub because the syllabus is so diverse like it covers basic electronics(analog and digital) , communication(digital and analog) ,vlsi,embedded systems,some RF and antenna theory ,etc. So literally u will have 3-4 subjects for each of these streams . With so much options you will have issues choosing which fits you right. For me it was at the end of 6th sem around my placement period I realised all my electives and strong subjects were in VLSI. It was too late. Most importantly learn some basic software stuff like DSA and OOPS concepts and solve few problems on leetcode which I will be starting now😂😂. This helps in both software and also embedded software role. I suggest u to take ECE only if u could handle pressure and be a self learner. Looking at my friend's getting placed in software companies for 30-35 lpa and me still planning to do mtech or MS and then probably land a job. So it's a long path sometimes in ECE due to the advancements in tech and the outdated syllabus which teaches too much theory . If you have interest in tech in general not specific to electronics I would suggest you to take up computer science and also choose a stream within CS which suits your skills amd goals. This is what I would suggest my younger brother in such a situation.

@@ThomasDo is it fine if I know c++ and not c Why do we use c and not c++ , c++ has more libraries and advatages
@ThomasDo
@ThomasDo 2 года назад
@@vasudashenoy5199 From my limited understanding, the libraries and "advantages" that you have for C++ are really useful for high level development. However, it can become a disadvantage and cause problems when working in embedded system for two main reason I can think of. Most of the libraries becomes useless and waste of space relying on too many object oriented methods cause of it being sometimes so hardware oriented and low-level that you don't need it. Second, C gives you much more control where it forces you to think about how your code is interacting with the hardware more closely. As to the question if it's fine, I believe that it's fine but if you want to get into firmware or embedded engineering then preferably knowing C would be better as it is more used in those fields.
