Hi everyone! My name is Deyanira Cavazos and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate in the state of Texas. I also own my own virtual private practice called Coze Mental Health Services.Today's video is part 1 of working on upgrading from an LPC-Associate to LPC. I worked on requesting the self-query, emailing the supervised experience documentation form to my supervisor, and completed the jurisprudence exam. Congratulations! I’m so happy for you!!! I got my Texas lmft-associate license in August so the post-graduate hustle is just starting for me…yaaaaay 🙄 *insert sarcasm*. I totally agree with everything you said about the road to licensure in our profession. I can get on a soapbox and go on for days about it. I launched my private practice in January, if I didn’t have that option I’d be extremely frustrated right now!

Congratulations on opening your practice!!! 🎉👏🏼 No because insert every once of sarcasm as I cut out 30 minutes of venting footage lol😅😭 You get it😭 I’m still mourning the fact that Texas didn’t sign on to the counseling compact and we have to wait until 2025 now for it to even be revisited. I’m so happy for the states that signed on but extremely salty and side-eyeing Texas. The amount of therapists we have here, it could’ve made such a huge difference for people in states struggling to find therapists.

Congratulations! So excited for you and I was so thrilled to see the notification pop of a new video from you...I have quickly become a huge fan of your channel. As a fellow POC/therapist, I appreciate the uniqueness and inclusivity of your channel. It is so refreshing! I also had a question: do you only offer consultations (w/ regard to private practice) for therapists in Texas or do you consult for other states as well? Just curious as I know standards are different for states, but I feel like you have some much knowledge with regard to getting started, the do's and don'ts, etc.

Aww I appreciate your comment so much, thank you for being here!!!🤎🥹 I try to focus more on Texas when it comes to consultations for launching a private practice and try to encourage counselors to consult with someone in their state so they can have the most accurate information but I have worked with clients from different states depending if they want to consult about grad school, NCE, and topics that relate to our career field, social media marketing, and private practice. It’s more with the launching steps for private practice that I recommend consulting in their own state because of the differences between state boards too. Thank you for asking 🫶🏼

Congratulations on completing your hours!! I just graduated in December from the counseling program at UTRGV and am studying for the NCE here soon. I appreciate your honest thoughts of all the hoops we have to jump through to be able to do this profession. I feel so validated lol!

I’m in New York and just finished my hours and passed my exam. I have almost quit so many times because of them changing the goal post for clinical hours midway into my journey. In NY we cannot have our private practice as a limited permit. We literally fought to be able to fight for our ability to diagnose once we are fully licensed. So right when I hit 1,500 hours they pushed the limit to 2000 in order to diagnose smh! I had three Latina classmates who quit before becoming interns and associate therapists due to the ridiculous hoops needed to work in the field. If I knew what it truly took to become a therapist in grad school, I would’ve went to medical school as a psychiatrist instead.

Congratulations! I have learned so much from your channel. I currently live in another state and want to move back to Texas to practice as an LCSW (once I graduate and have my license). . Looks like there's a lot of barriers in the way though. Hopefully things change soon!

Ooooh if you haven’t already definitely check the Texas stateboard site for social workers because I believe their process is similar to ours where you can have your practice post grad with your license but I could be wrong. Congratulations! I’m in Atlanta and in practicum in community services and will become an LAPC. I don’t think we’re able to start virtual private practices until fully licensed though? I would love that because we don’t get paid in community services if the clients don’t show…
