Our Network manager had us on a teams call today to confirm some system performace metrics while a tech was upgrading equipment. The ION install and network improvements were done remotely with a granite tech in house wiring in a new palo alto . Amazing to see it all come together and has me interested in learning about what you guys/gals/they do.

Well hopefully my video was helpful. I’ve since moved on from that job so my schedule and duties are pretty different. Thanks for stopping by!

Hello👋 I love networking, am currently studying for CCNA but slowly because am in the university studying Computer science, so it's hard to combine both. Nice video sir 🙋‍♂️

Hi Chad, I’m contemplating starting my IT career path on network engineer or cybersecurity and don’t know which to pick, can you briefly tell me the pros and cons of Network Engineering 😅
@ChadEmery
@ChadEmery 3 года назад
I would say learn both. Cybersecurity is in huge demand and having experience and knowing networking would be a huge aid. You could also became a network security engineer and do a little bit of both there. Really both are in demand and knowing both would be huge. If it were me I’d go after network security first and work your way into the more advanced cyber security topics.

Nice vid man, very informative. Currently new to the field working on getting my A+ and CCNA, just curious once you get into the field do you have to keep obtaining certs?? Or how does that work
@ChadEmery
@ChadEmery 3 года назад
You don’t have to but it will help you stay informed and up to date. Also if a job is looking for candidates that have a certain cert and you no longer have a valid one it may hurt your chances. If you’ve already landed a job in field, it’s completely up to you and current employer. Some may want you to stay current and even pay to do so, some may not. Really depends.

Just curios.. why did you make p10 your trunk? Why not p1?
@ChadEmery

If you’re referring to the top switch it’s a Poe switch. Ports 1-8 are POE and the others are not. Since I don’t need power I used those ports.

You said you changed the extension number. Was the original in a reserved dial pattern?
@ChadEmery
@ChadEmery 3 года назад
No. I did the end points manually entering them and added this user through this but it errored out but still did the import. When I noticed the error I reloaded the page to find this particular user not there. When I tried to add the user it was not even an option. I then exported this to csv to find somehow the user was there but had no MAC address or any information this was odd. I deleted the extension but it stayed in the list still. I still couldn’t add it back so I did an import csv to fill in the information this worked but after the phone provisioned it couldn’t dial anything. Everything else stuck, time config, sip, all the setting and everything. Was definitely weird.

Hi, I'm currently in university for computer science and want to make my way up to cybersecurity certificates. Did you have any other certificates before shooting for your CCNA?
@ChadEmery
@ChadEmery 2 года назад
I did not. Went straight for it however I took the CCNA when it was a choice to split into two exams or one so I suppose you could say yes. I technically held the CCENT certification before I was fully a CCNA. I feel though the CCNA needs no prerequisite to jump into since it lays the foundation for basic networking and ramps up from there.

Hey bro I’m taking a cyber security boot camp that my school is offering, it’s 15K, I love networking and, after my cyber certification completion where do you think I should? Like I said I like network but also cyber security is in demand (ccna,cyber ops, network programming?) what job should I get to start please need an advice
@ChadEmery
@ChadEmery 3 года назад
Hey, so I answered this already with a previous comment but I’ll also answer yours directly. Cybersecurity is in much more of a demand right now than network engineers however, most jobs will be looking for the person that can do both. Cybersecurity goes hand and hand with knowledge of how networks work and how to protect those systems. The advise I have is put both out there when you begin looking for a job let everyone know you can do both. It will only help you land the job over other candidates that may not have the experience. You’ll have to ask yourself though. If you had to do one or the other the rest of yourself which one would make you happier and let that guide you. I hope this is somewhat helpful. Everyone is different and not everyone’s story is the same and that’s ok. You got this!

So you are replying to everyone, i hope you will reply me too.. so according to you i should get both networking as well cybersecurity. I have already ccna ccnp,,, how to start a cybersecurity path ? Please help. And do you think degree matters for it. Because i don't have computer background I'm actually graduated in medical field. I have different certifications in computer programming.
@ChadEmery
@ChadEmery 2 года назад
I try to reply to everyone. Glad to hear you have went down the Cisco track. With your experience I would look into the security Cisco track since you likely have core routing and switching knowledge nailed down. Or maybe look into other security certificates like CISSP. I am not really familiar with that track to be honest so I can’t say what I think is the best path but I am sure if you search on Udemy, RU-vid and others you will find resources. I would also encourage you to look into the NSE certification by Fortinet. The material is 100% free on their training website. Hope any of this was helpful and thank you so much for commenting and watching!

Hi I recently finished my degree in it with security and networking focus, a+, ccna completed. Have help desk experience, Nd networking experience. I'm applying to jobs for network engineering. Any advice on applying because a lot of these jobs seem like they require someone with 5+ years managing enterprise networks. How do I get my foot in the door if these jobs are requiring so much hands on experience? Any specific job titles I should be searching for? I feel like I have the knowledge and ability just kind of stuck lookin for the jobs and I dont want to do any more help desk stuff that's why I did the schooling and certifications.
@ChadEmery
@ChadEmery 2 года назад
Apply for everything even if you don’t feel like you have the required experience. It’s sure to land you some interviews that you may not pass further than but you will at least get an idea of the questions and approach of the process. As far as experience use what you’ve done so far to get to where you are. Have you built a home lab? If so talk about that. Most people can pick up on candidates that are passionate about their knowledge and not just knowing it to know. Once you land an interview don’t be afraid to interview the person interviewing you by asking them counter questions about the role and desired outcome of the position. This can go a long way. Finally be confident in yourself. You’ll surely apply for something and not get any response and that doesn’t mean you are not capable it just means it wasn’t right for you. I hope any of this was helpful. You got this Justin!

@@ChadEmery thanks I've gone through some interviews past few days and they all ask me about specific cisco routers and switch models and just discourages me having the background knowledge but not hands on experience with specific cisco equipment like ISE and nexus brand switches and specific WLC models. Like what am I supposed to do just lie?
@ChadEmery
@ChadEmery 2 года назад
@@justinava1675 certainly don’t lie about your experience. I would go to ciscos website and gain some general knowledge on some of the enterprise model devices. If they ask you if you know a certain one you could say “I am not familiar with that model but would be eager to learn more about it”. Showing initiative is key during an interview. Obviously the catalyst line up of devices is geared towards the enterprise and the nexus line up is datacenter. More over the 9000 series devices in both classes are most of the in production devices today. Get to know some of the basics of the entry level devices. You don’t have to know everything but watch a few videos or read up on them and if all else when they ask if you know it be sure to word the “no” in such a way that makes them see you will do everything it takes to be the best.

@ChadEmery
@ChadEmery 3 года назад
I did not go to college. I went with the Cisco certification track. Currently CCNA certified and halfway through the CCNP certification. There’s plenty of free material online that can aid you landing a job in IT without having a degree. If you have any further questions or need help feel free to reach back out. Anything is possible!

Hi net+ newb here. why 66 and not 110 block?
@ChadEmery
@ChadEmery 3 года назад
66 blocks are mostly used for voice while 110 can transfer Ethernet better. I only needed 4 strands two for power two for voice. I’m not a expert with them by any means but it works for what I need.

Ccna & ccnp helps to get a job ?
@ChadEmery
@ChadEmery 2 года назад
Sorry this one slipped by me. In short absolutely, the knowledge gained from the certification is great to help you land a job. Notice I used the word knowledge. At the end of the day that is what makes the Cisco certifications sought after is the knowledge you gain from them. Certification alone will not land you anything but an interview the knowledge is what gets you a job. I hope this was helpful to your question!

Sir can I become network engineer after doing BTech CSE
@ChadEmery
@ChadEmery 3 года назад
It really depends on the area you’re in. I would say it wouldn’t hurt having that. On the side of getting that I would look into courses that focus on network fundamentals and advanced topics such as network+, ccna, CCNP, these will really give you fundamental knowledge and move into advanced topics with the CCNP. If you have experience that’s another big perk. Again it really depends on the area you’re in. Wishing you the best!

Hey David, I’d recommend you check out my video on how I got started in IT. I faced similar discouraging things along the way and the biggest was my lack in faith of myself. If you apply yourself and believe you can, you will. I’d add, check out some free resources on RU-vid on networking. It will get you pretty far. If you need anything along the way don’t hesitate to reach out and thanks for watching!
