Day in the life of a private tutor in Singapore. This is what a typical day working as a private tutor looks like for my cousin, Ke Ling. Amidst Singapore's competitive education landscape, the rising number of tuition centers and private tutors comes as no surprise to many of us. Many students in Singapore are sent to private tuition in hopes of improving their results. Hope this video provides deeper insights to Singapore's education system and just how competitive education is in Singapore. Whether you're interested in becoming a teacher in Singapore, or just curious about the various occupations and jobs in Singapore, I hope that this video will play a part in fulfilling your curiosity somehow.
You can contact Ke Ling at her email below:
kelingyu@gmail.com
You can reach out to me at:
redpotatosg@gmail.com
If you would like to be featured in my next "Day in the Life" video, do reach out to me. As always, thank you for supporting my channel and watching my videos. Creating this channel has changed my life and I hope that I can play a part in making a change in yours as well. Wishing all good health and may you win the lottery and become rich! Hahah :)

I feel sad that such a passionate teacher is rejected by NIE solely due to the fact that she is a private degree holder. I know of people in the teaching line that are not actually passionate about teaching..so having that local degree is severely overrated.
@yappy7788
@yappy7788 2 года назад
Yea but ultimately a private degree holder had bad grades back in her schooling days. In asian context, it either meant you're not smart enough or not hardworking enough and that's very likely to continue to adulthood. Most government agencies would rather not take the risk, no matter the passion of the applicant.
@ColouredPixels
@ColouredPixels 2 года назад
@@yappy7788 that's very bold of you to say that it is "very likely" to continue to adulthood. have you not heard of late bloomers? so many things are often learned outside of school. exposure to different environment. growth leading to a change of mindset. maturity.. so many factors play a part.

Very interesting that the tutor is wearing shorts to teach students. Very friendly atmosphere. It’s very good to make them relaxed outside school.

Agree that elite schools tend to be toxic, especially on the JC level. I heard of tuition notes being stolen at another school, and my teacher told me not to share notes with students from other JC taking the same subject so that we can gain a competitive edge. P.S. I am not from the top 5 JCs (ranking for my yr)

Based on the things she says I get a sense that she is more suited to a caring profession for kids, maybe not so academic as a tutor in this competitive industry. Anyway I do relate with sg’s competitive culture, tbh I think it’s good to be competitive but not to the point where people become too stressed or hurt one another, otherwise’s good so it’s not all that bad. But yes, I do agree that we should value arts more and other talents apart from engineering, science, business, etc.

6:22 "it's not that she doesn't want to do well, she just feels so unfair that she doesn't feel like wanting to do well." I can relate on this point. My parents are extremely controlling of me as well, have implemented screentime restrictions for the past about 7 years or so. Whenever I have bad scores or just don't act in the way they want, they resort to physical harm, and constantly talk about how much of a failure I am, how I shouldn't have been born etc. Because of this, I just have no motivation to do well at all. No matter how well I do in school, I will never be free. To give some context on my tuition background, I used to have around 12 hours of tuition every weekend. Now that I'm in JC, it's 6 hours tuition total. Edit: Regarding the last bit on voicing out. I used to have a secondary school form teacher (of 2 years) who knew of my circumstances and asked me about it. One session, she told me to write my troubles down on the piece of paper, stating that she would not let anyone else know. Lo and behold, on that same afternoon, my parents were called to the school and she showed it to them. When I got back, of course I was beaten up again. Because of this, I have trust issues with teachers who I'm not familiar with for more than a few years, I've become paranoid about sharing my issues with school teachers as well.
