Hey, I’m about to start my career in Saas sales. I’m pumped, seems like an awesome team. But when I started hitting the gym a month ago, my confidence, health and general well being went through the roof. If you don’t already, and for anyone else, hit the gym, get a basic routine down, and do it. Love yourself! It’s tough at first, always worried about what others might think, if you’re doing it wrong etc, but nobody cares, you will learn and practice and get better.

Thank you for this!! I liked the idea of moving to Plano, TX until I saw the traffic on the roads!! That day, did you spend most of your time making cold calls??

That road is the Dallas toll way - connection between Plano and downtown. I spent my day making callas and taking meetings and prepping
@HGarach

I listen to either classical/baroque (Beethoven or Haydn symphonies usually) or metal (Slipknot or Lamb of God usually). Before I make my calls, a popping twerk song, not gonna lie. It gets the blood pumping and builds my confidence a lot! I'm still new and in ramp-up, so I can go in and out of confidence pretty quickly. I think Texas weather might be too hot for me to live there, though.

@phillipj.moodie3077
@phillipj.moodie3077 3 года назад
@ Christopher Conseille. Sometimes getting the blood pumping can cause you to sound over hyped when Cold Calling. While that makes you feel like wanting to get on with the job, that should never be the real issue, It takes at least 5 years for Cold Calling to be a task that one can tackle with total concentration. As I have had many years experience as a National Sales Manager for some of the World's largest Computer and TelecommnicationCompanies, I found that I radically improved the Cold Call ( And Follow-up Calls ) of entire State Sales Offices, by asking Company Directors for the Budget to build Quite Zones. When this was difficult to achieve I would restructure the Office desk layouts, into an open planning layout, using the Hot Desk principle, then I would allocate two seperate offices to be used on demand for "Quite Zone" telephone calls. No Manager liked what I did, but every member of my Sales Teams did, because that improved both their Closing Rate and their Commission earnings by at least 20%, You won't find that method in any Sales training Text Book, or Training Video, because in the Real World Salesmen don't have Grant Cardones frequently stated life long ambition to be an Author or a Sales Trainer, Real Salesmen Work Hard, Play Hard and take jobs where there lifestyle is supported by Company provided American Express Cards and Annual Sales Conferences in Fiji, Bermuda and Singapore. Not in New York or Boston. When IBM was famous for running such week long overseas Sales Prizes everyone in the Sales Office worked as a team to ensure that everyone made the very hard to achieve 100% Quota. But that is why IBM Sales people have a bond like the Marines are famed for. While I have never worked for IBM many of my Managers were the cream of IBM's Talent. Why I get respect in that circle from the IBM CEOs in North America, Japan and Australasia, is since I started selling against IBM in 1966, accross every product division they have ever operated, I have never lost either a Corporate Sale or Tender. But I really do know how to use Corporate Expense Account, because I really am a good Accountant. Phil.

Plano,TX is ultra conservative/corporate and there isn't much to do there except work. It is a favorite relocation of off-shore and their families. I would recommend against moving there if you are single. But a good place to get experience on your new career.

Trent, I don't listen to the radio, podcasts.or any other distraction. Unlike you I have spent most of working life living at the beach edge, which in Australian Capital Cities usually means the CBD. the Capital Cities are large by USA standards and the traffic is such that it is too dangerous not to apply your full attention to your driving and as I always drive high performance cars I enjoy my driving far more than any podccast can inspire me. While many of the inner city roads are now Freeway style driving all the East Coast Capital Cities have really great roads to enjoy driving a highperormance car, I currently live one street away from a CBD Road that runs around Albert Park Lake, in the centre of the CBD, where they run the Australian Grand Prix, that is part of the Global Series and from the upper story of my apartment I can see the beach that is adjacent to the roads used for the Grand Prix and I can see 50 miles down Port Phillip Bay to the entrance which is flanked by World class Surf Beaches, like the famous Bells Beach which is only a 60 minute drive away, So who wants to be distracted by podcasts, or music,.This area is the Music Capital of Australia, with real live music, not low quality replays on the Internet, Phil,

Word, Phil. I’m the guy in the 440whp 2002 WRX vibrating the road with a 12 inch sub after work, causing absolute madness between Naples and Fort Myers, FL. Drove around at least three hours after work yesterday for fun. Really have to hunt for twisties down here. Highly agree, fellow gearhead. What do you drive?

@phillipj.moodie3077
@phillipj.moodie3077 3 года назад
@@colematthews7535 That is an interesting question because I am currently evaluating what I will buy next as a Daily Driver because I was in the process of consolidating my household into a rural property in North East Victoria, while moving into a small Town House that is actually sited on the road that the Australian Grand Prix is run on. Because I need a more versatile vehicle I will probably settle on a Range Rover, which have a poor reliability record. The joke in Australia is "If you want to drive to the Outback, buy a Range Rover. If you want to return buy a (Toyota) Land Cruiser. In the USA they are sold in an upmarket Lexus form, but since 1960 Toyota have developed their 4WD's in Australia, where they are very popular in the Mining Industry. My brother has had four Range Rovers getting his first one around mid-1980's as a Company Car. To encourage him to change jobs he was offered a new Porsche Carrera, as his Company Car. He said that he would take the job if they would spend the same amount of money on a Range Rover fitted out in the same manner as the companies Rally Cars. The upgrade increased the power by 99% while still being drivable in daily traffic. I had a similar offer in the mid1970's when the newly released 3.5 litre Range Rover was the feature in a TV Series starring Tony Curtis and "The Saint". Well I was taken out to lunch in the Range Rover being dangled under my nose with the offer to take "Take it for a drive around the Lake" well not only did it exceed 100mph but none of the road traffic could beat me through the twisty corners. But that was yesterday and the modern SUV's are amazing "Daily Shoppers" but boring. To keep my driving interesting I have a couple of "Collector" Cars that I have had since new. One is a four door 351 Ford Falcon GT which when new was the World fastest four door sedan, which would top more than 245 kph on the last straight bit of road on the approach to the offic. The other car is a 1980 Lancia Beta 2 litre coupe with only 35,000 kms on the clock, The Subaru WRX was a follow on from the Lancia intergrale, the world's most successful rally car, which looks like a Beta coupe, but is built on a 4WD version of the Delta Sedan. Lancia's have always been popular in Australia, up until the time the Italian Government bought control. But the type of car that you use as a Daily Driver seems to have lost status in Australia, but a lot of people in Sales buy cars that can be used at the "Track Day" events that are well supported by local manufacturers. But my reflexs are a bit beyond Track Days. But I think that the car that I have liked most in the last 60 years is the basic Porsche coupe. It was a very fast point to point car, that you could drive over any road condition, while being totally reliable and holding an impressive style. And in their early days they were driven by the same sort of driver who would feel totally at home in a WRX, Phil
