Hi Klarissa! Thank you for sharing your experience. It’s definitely frustrating because I feel like so much more learning in the specialties we want to pursue comes from learning outside of grad school (books, workshops, webinars…etc). Such an important specialty and very much needed. Sadly I cannot tell you one therapist that I know that works with the deaf/Deaf population that I could refer a client to. Trying to continually build up my referral sources but so proud of you for pursuing the specialties you feel passionate about. Thank you for watching!

Hi Deyanira! Your personality and videos are so refreshing and informative. Blessings to you! I'm a 61 yr old about to take the clinical licensure for social work (LICSW-C) and currently working as a school therapist in the Washington, DC area. I'm not sure I want all the responsibility of a PP; however, I'm tired of working for others and not focusing on the populations I really want to work with (as you alluded): trauma, marginalized communiities, depression, anxiety, and self-care. I also write pretty well, so I want to write books too. I feel behind the 8-ball, due to my age, and want to see the fruits of all my hard labor, lol. Currently, I'm working and studying for the exam. What advice would you give me/or where do you think I should start? Thank you in advance and look forward to watching more videos!

Hi Deyanira! Love your content and all the info you’re sharing🙏☺️. I was wondering if you happen to know if LMFT Associate can have their own practice too in TX like LPC Associate? Would love to know if you have any info about this. I am currently an MFT Trainee located in CA and unfortunately we can’t have our private practice until we get fully licensed so i am asking about TX because I am from there but moved to CA due to my husband’s work so we might be back to TX in the future and tbh if i can have my private practice as early as possible that would be amazing! Thank you so much in advance 🙏

Hi Sarah yes LMFT associate can have their own practice. Their designation of associate and being able to get their own practice is what made us LPC associates to get our name as well.

Hello! Is there a way to get experience without a license (or an associate license) or being a behavior tech? I have noticed a couple of positions that were "case manager" or "vocational rehabilitation counselor" and they did require only a Bachelor's in Psychology, which I have. Do you know if this is something that is common? My goal is to start school in Fall 2023 and would like to have a position to get experience while I go to school. Do you have some tips? Thank you!

Hi! 😊 You can definitely get experience in the mental health field through case management, facilitator, coordinator, liaison roles. Therapy is different from those jobs but you will definitely learn a lot about the mental health field and community mental health agencies and non profits that service the community. I know that both are common where some want to get that kind of experience and others go straight through school so it depends on each person. You don’t need that experience to be a good therapist because our work is different but it can give you a lot of behind the scenes knowledge and resources. I try my best to share what I’ve learned because a lot of what I did learn I wish I could’ve just read or had a conversation/consult with someone about (which happens during internship) instead of experiencing the burnout I experienced after working in community mental health with the particular agency I worked for that had an impossible to sustain quota. What I would honestly with no bs tell a friend is only do it if you have to and if you want to just be aware of if things get too stressful and demanding and know you can always leave as soon as you want/need to. Every agency has their own supervisors and requirements so you only fully know until you try it. Hope this helps, wishing you the best with whichever you decide🤎
