Hi! this is pure gold. im from a country wich is terrible for buy anything from outside (Argentina), and i not talking about drivers or amplifiers, i just meaning buy a manual for construction of enclosures, so the theorical materials found in internet is absolutly diamonds for us who love good sound.. and a part of the same, the drivers and amplifiers, we have only two ways: Car audio drivers(nasty) or just wait 2 or 3 months an aliexpress buy (the only online global shop allowed with a internal tax fee of 110%!!), so in the most cases we delight in what is seen behind the horizon. best regards and thank you. sorry for my bad english i just learned from movies ajajaja

Good choice of drive units. I've got the paper-coned version (RS180-4P) in the front doors of my car, along with RST-28A tweeters. Woofers are actively bandpass filtered between 80hz and 4KHz, tweeters are high-pass filtered at 4 KHz. Sounds awesome with massive midbass. Aluminum dome tweeters are detailed without being harsh or fatigueing. There's no car audio marketed speakers that can come close for the price of these puppies.
@sonnoradesign
@sonnoradesign 9 месяцев назад
I really liked those drivers. I’d add a second woofer if making this box again. Get more SPL and bass. The tweeters are really clean and articulated. Good choice.
@PAC-fp9hy

One downside of the Dayton tweeters is that the plastic holding the spade connector deforms very quickly when soldering cable directly. They are not easy to tin without the plastic deforming.

Love the design. Love the presentation. I will be using it for a build for a friend, but as a finishing touch, I am going to use black leather instead of paint (similar to Sonus Faber) and veneer the edges. One of my takeaways from this was the trick with the veneer that you used to make the cauls (why faff around planing an angle..)

This design appears to be an extremely cost effective offering that will blow away commercial offerings costing a whole lot more. I hope that people aren't put off by your antics and realize that some very serious design work is going into these projects which all seem to be "big bang for the buck"!. The series cross over type seems to minimize component cost and keep the overall project costs low You might want to look into the SB Acoustics drivers offered by Madisound. Great work.

They really look great, I used some of those rs180-4 in a recent build had a lot of trouble with the xover keeping the nasty metal cone ringing(from 4~7Khz), had to cross them very low(1.65Khz) 3rd order ended up needing a tweeter that could handle going that low(without spending $500+), ended up using a Wavecore TWO30W11-1(Fs 410Hz) it seemed to model better than the RST28F-4. But yours turned out to measure great... wished I used them dayton tweeters now would've saved me a lot of phaffing about and some coin too as the Wavecores were double the daytons in price and by the looks a few less xover parts! The boombox I put them in is pretty beefy with a Dayton RS265HF-4 sub between them gets pretty loud only using one of those Dayton DTA2.1BT2 amps(50w x2/100w x1).
@st170ish
@st170ish 2 года назад
@YuccaReptiles I tried 2nd order but the ringing was still measurable and with the large dia tweeter being strong at these frequencys it boosted them even more so I upped the order which tamed it without having to use a notch filter
@ChicagoRob2
@ChicagoRob2 2 года назад
@YuccaReptiles The acoustic response is probably 4th order, when factoring driver roll-off.
@sonnoradesign
@sonnoradesign 2 года назад
Congrats man! That’s a great build. I wanna try the Wavecores sometime. You are right there is the high cone break up noise and I had to do the same. Go lower on the crossover point. It worked well. I still wanna work a little bit more on the crossovers on another video. I just tried to keep it simple with less components. Thanks for the info!

All very good and well done on the build, the only minor criticism is when you described the Vas parameter you were relating it to the actual box size. As I understand it it represents a theoretical box that represents the behaviour of the cone suspension. I might be wrong as I’m not an expert but I wouldn’t want anyone to construct an enclosure to the Vas volume and waste time/money. But kudos to you on your build 🙏🙏

These look great and pair well with your amp/tube preamp build.. I'll be looking to build these but want them on stands with record storage underneath (like the wharfedale linton)- any suggestions on how best to do the stands? Keep it up love the vids

Hello Daniel. Thanks for watching! Those speakers are big and heavy. Keep that in mind and if you wanna add 13-14 inches under it might be too high. One option would be to make a smaller box, closer to a regular size bookshelf or reverse the tweeter with the woofer which looks good to me. Another option is to extend the side pieces all the way down and use it as record storage and stand.

Hey Shawn. I could have used hardwood all over. Hardwood is very hard though. Have to use the sonic barrier inside or any other damping material. Boenike speakers are all hardwood.

I liked the personality you added in to your Video. I dont know if you are always like the portrayal in the video but it was friendly and entertaining. The boogy music a nice addition. The info i just soak like a sponge. I was mainly interested in your thoughts on the Reference drivers. Thanks for your efforts. The Latin Jazz at the end was was that Pancho Sanchez? I was encouraged to go ahead and use the Reference drivers. Your cabinet design and work execution was excellent.

Hey Richard! Thanks for watching man!! I really appreciate it. Those drivers are pretty good. Clean and articulated highs. I wanted more bass though. I’d probably build something with 2 woofers next time.

Hey. I’m having a go at building speakers to yours. I do have a question. Why isn’t the tweeter in its own seperate section of the cabinet?
@sonnoradesign
@sonnoradesign 9 месяцев назад
Hey Start. Thanks for watching! The tweeter is shielded, it doesn’t interfere with the woofer.
