DayZ Console Modding Beginners Guide: Creating & Editing Server Restarts With Messages.xml 

Been playing DayZ for a couple of months now and it caught my attention that you could make your own. Been looking for a while for a new hobby and i think i may have found it. It's just a shame that most the mods are PC only and we have it a lot harder/limited to what we can have on console. Thanks for the vids they been a big help so far for me.

With using the Shutdown command as you have described will the server automatically restart? or will you have to do that Manually?

When I use that shutdown message my server is shutting but not restarting literally stops the server

Wait, so...what does the start.bat file do if this message can restart the server? Is there a way to send the message without the Messages.xml file initiating the shutdown or at least to get it to invoke the restart from the bat file?

you should make a longer video that explains how this correlates with automatic restart setting, I have mine set to this to test if it will work just for the msgs without using messages to restart my server. any idea if this will work? server auto restart is set to every 4 hours, first message should display 1 hour before restart, than 30mn before, 10mn, and 5mn. 180 0 #name will restart in #tmin minutes. 210 0 #name will restart in #tmin minutes. 230 0 #name will restart in #tmin minutes. 235 0 #name will restart in #tmin minutes.

So, you are telling me that changing the message.xml file will cause an automatic restart if I use the shutdown code? Does the server need to be reset for the message.xml file to be updated, if changes have been made to the file?

Will I be able to use the bottom texts after the --> to input my time and messages? Also if I delete #name you said it will automatically put my name or do I need to keep the #name?

Great video's ! I've got a question.. I have my girlfriend and me setup as Super Admins (in VPPAdmins) I want to setup a third person as just an Admin. How do you edit their Admin abilities?

Great video, only one question if I set that up it will take effect at the moment I restart the server so if I want to do it around 12,4,8 etc I would have to restart the server at that time so it stay in that schedule? Or if I do a random restart will not sync again?

Do i need to delete my automated tasks to use this? If i set it to 120 will that reset every 2 hours?

hi @scalespeedergaming loving the vids that you put up has helped me big time as im not a pro at this dayz thing at the moment lol im having trouble with my new server with the shut down i want it to shut down every 4 hours so ive set the times in automated tasks then gone to messages and set the timing there but for some strange reason it keeps shutting down 15 mins early or if i adjust the automated task times it shut down earler of up to 30 mins please can you help ive been at this for about a week and cant get my head around it many thanks shayne

What triggers the notafication? If I enter this and say i do it 2 hours before a restart, does the schedualed tasks tell it to start the countdown when it comes to restart? or do i have to wait until the server restarts then imediatly put it into the messages? Thanks in advance.

I need to know how to edit the mod line in the config folder so it can read mods out of a mod folder rather than having the mods in root folder.

Why does the time of day change after the restart ? So just had 45 minutes of night, its now morning time in game its light. Server restart happens i log back on and its in the middle of the night again ?

Server will reset in 90 minutes (doesn't seem to know it's actually 4hrs until restart) or is this just me??

If I have this on my server do I have to delete the automated resets I made in the automated actions section?

So I did this the exact way that was explained but I've looked in my restart logs and nothing has appeared. I had to go into the auto mated task to create Restarts. Is that what I have to do? I'm new to this.

Hi, just wonder how restarting your server with messages.xml every 6h works if you have automatic tasks set up to restart your server every 6h?

If you set up the restart message for every 6 hours do you need the automated tasks set also or is the message enough?

How do I make my server reset every 4 hours what do I put in the automated tasks in hour and minute

Can anyone tell me how to do a line break in the server messages. I know it can be done, i've seen it on another server, but i'm going slowly insane trying to figure it out.

Is there a way to remove zombies from a certain area, like a town or city? How can one make them travel longer distance’s?

I have been having issues with my server not restarting. I’ve made no changes in quite some time. Never made any mistakes and never changed anything with out stopping the server. I have the message.xml file set so my server will reset every two hours. It did the same thing when I had it set to fours hour. Randomly it will just not restart. Complaints from my players, I check and just out of the blue it’s stopped or it’s not found in the community list even though the web interface says it’s running and then when I manually restart it goes into a loop. Any ideas?

For the shutdown part “#name will shutdown in #tmin.” do I have to put #name or can I put “server” instead”? Because my server name is kinda long. Or is putting “server” will cause the restarts not to work?

How do I make the server reset every four hours? When I currently have it setup it says 4:08 then 8:13 and so on. Why does it not simply reset on the four hour marks? Also, once this code is in place, it automatically follows the time setup for the reset? Like 4:06 it will warn in two minutes that it's resetting at 4:08?

how about you teach both options in the case someone does want to display there discord and other things of the like. But thank you anyway

on pc you fire up omega and it does everything for you lol

Funny thing that none of these videos tells you that you’re actually supposed to remove (< ! - -) in the message.xml file in order for the messages to start displaying in the server. Thanks for nothing dude 👌🏼
