Daz 3D Beginners Tutorial : How To Point Eyes At The Camera

In this video we take a look at how we can automatically point our model's eyes at the camera or in fact, how they can point at any object within a Daz 3D scene. Yes, we can move sliders to have the eyes point where we would want them to be - but what if you manually position them to look at the camera and then you move the camera? You'll have to manually position them again.

I'd stumbled across this basic method a while back, and use it extensively. Your "way" is the way I wish I'd learned it, as almost happens with your vids. It's a more streamlined and complete method. Thanks, as always.

The best way to do anything wet is by using an asset from the store .. they can give far better results than just increasing the glossiness of the skin (which is the old way of doing it)

A question not related to the topic. Believe me, I have tried to find the solution before and I don't see any information anywhere. So I have nothing left but this... Lighting bug in cavities. I have an HDRI as a means of lighting, character (Genesis 8), mouth closed, no problem, character opens his mouth and his interior has uneven pink tones. It is as if the light penetrated the side of the skin of the cheek and illuminated the inside in a rather ugly way. Do you know how to avoid that problem? Obviously without needing to change the angle of the camera because that would ruin a lot of previous things. Thank you.

@Actkqk3 I help with over 100 requests each month from various sources .. some simple questions like yours .. some more in depth requests .. spending some 15+ hours a week helping people here or elsewhere. I do this freely .. in my own time .. without any recompense .. alongside working for a living .. I don’t have any obligation to help anybody beyond the videos I put out. But looking at these comments on these videos - you can see I do as much as I can and I have the time for. If I happen to forget about a request for help then a simple reminder is far more helpful for me and you rather than whiney bitchy response. Instead of a simple reminder "Hey Rauko - did you figure this one out" .. you’d rather act like a petulant child because I haven’t devoted all of my free time to you and just happened to do something human like "forget" while helping other, obviously far less important, people than you, then I’m more than happy to lose you as a subscriber. Thanks for watching whatever you watched. Goodbye.

This seems like a fantastic method, only problem is that I don't have such a tab in there. I'm on 4.22 and my parameters tab doesn't have any of those options under it...😅 There's just "All/Favorites/Currently used." Any idea what's wrong with my program or how to make all those options show up?
@RaukoDaz3D
@RaukoDaz3D 7 дней назад
No idea what's wrong with your program. If you have something selected in the scene tab then you should have more than just "All/Favorites/Currently Used" in the parameters tab. With something selected in the Scene Tab - check some of the other tabs near Parameters .. Shaping .. Posing .. and let me know if something appears under them? These are the basic tools of Daz and so if they aren't there - then there has to be an issue with your install and Daz will probably need re-installing.

Recommendation to all Daz users - use this method, then save the eyes out as a pose for the side-to-side and up-down parameters. Undo the "Look At" method in this video and then use the pose. Reason being, if you use this method, save, close and reload, the eyes aren't looking at the camera. But if you set the eye pose settings, they will stay saved. EDIT: Forgot to note, this is my workflow when preparing a batch of renders. If you're just doing a single render with no batch loading, then just nude a camera translation/rotation slider, then undo and Daz will tell the eyes to look.
@RaukoDaz3D
@RaukoDaz3D 5 месяцев назад
That works .. but it's unnecessary really .. when you load the scene back in and find the eyes not looking at the camera .. just give one of the rotation / translation sliders of the camera the eyes should be looking at a little click so the it moves ever so slightly .. the eyes will then lock back onto the camera .. and just hit Undo to return the camera back to it's original position and the eyes will stay locked on ..

You certainly can make animations in Daz - although it's maybe not the best option. However, if you've only just started with Daz though then you'd be best starting with the basics within Daz rather than jumping straight into Animations!

@RaukoDaz3D
@RaukoDaz3D 7 месяцев назад
@@joaosobral1618 Animation is a whole different topic and will need 10 videos to explain it. It's not simple. If you already have an animation and don't know how to export it .. it's quite easy Go to Render Settings > General > Render Type And select "Image Series" or "Movie" These will render out each frame in your animation and save them to file. There are differences though : "Image Series" will render and save all the frames as individual images and then you'll have to join them together in a movie creator like "Hitfilm Express" or "Adobe After Effects" "Movie" will render the frames and automatically create a movie file for you but you'll lose a lot of control in the editing process. I usually use "Image Series" when animating. However, as I say - you'll need an animation first and animation in Daz is a topic in itself and needs a number of videos to explain it.

Sir, could you clarify some things I don't understand? I don't know much about 3D software, but from what I have seen I can highlight the following: 1. In DAZ you cannot work with the scene in real time in the final render quality. You have to do all the operations in a very simplified graphics and only after rendering, you will get the final visual result. This is extremely inconvenient way of workflow. In Unreal Engine you see the final result immediately on the screen and can work with it in real time. 2. In your videos you often talked about HDRI. In Unreal Engine you can create a full-fledged 3D landscape, trees, rivers, mountains, even cities. You can create the sky, clouds and have full control over all the details at any time. And this will all be a real 3D scene, and not an illusory image like HDRI. What's the point of using DAZ instead of Unreal Engine then? Perhaps I don’t understand something and Unreal Engine uses a more simplified lighting model for real time work? But even if this is so, it is still many times better than what I see in DAZ. Im not even talking about how much better camera and navigation systems in UE comparing to DAZ.
@RaukoDaz3D
@RaukoDaz3D 6 месяцев назад
Hey there You're talking two different things here. Unreal is a game engine first and foremost and not a true render engine. It's designed for fast updating and generating 60+ frames per second. To achieve this it "cheats" when it comes to rendering the scene. It does a good job of cheating but it's still not a 3D renderer in the strictest sense. A 3D render engine - whether that found within Daz or Blender or Maya etc ... realistically model light within a scene to give realistic results - it's not as simple as it sounds - it still takes a skilled user and lots of experience to get good. There are both pro's and cons to each. The pro's of Unreal are as you point out - however, for those unfamiliar with coding and the real nuts and bolts of setting up a scene - the cons are easy to see. Within a 3D render engine - literally anybody can quickly get into creating 3D art .. all that's needed is a model and a light. But, as it's not something that works in real-time, it can take a lot of time to render a full lit 3D scene. It ultimately depends on what your needs are. If you need something that updates quickly for animations then Unreal can be the answer. However, if you want more realistic lighting and ultimately a better final image (albeit, in the hands of a skilled user) then a 3D render engine will be the way to go if you just want flat images and no Animation.
@RaukoDaz3D
@RaukoDaz3D 6 месяцев назад
Oh .. and you can work in Daz in "real time" if you have a powerful enough 3D card - it won't be as snappy as Unreal .. but for simple scenes you can work in "near" real time. There's also an almost-like render engine within Daz that is really quick (it's known as Filament) .. It doesn't produce as good as result as Iray and it's not as quick as Unreal - but it's there.
@user-ot8ox8jc4j
@user-ot8ox8jc4j 6 месяцев назад
Thank you for such a detailed answer. Such a simple and precise explanation is exactly what I was looking for. I'm an artist, but not a 3D artist. What I really like about your tutorials is how you explain the technical aspects within the program itself. As a regular artist, I know how to work with lighting and other stuff in real life, but I know practically nothing about how to configure this lighting in the program itself, so that it gives the desired realistic result. It would be interesting to see you someday have a tutorial for people like me. Something like a quick introduction to the DAZ course, for people who already know how to handle light, camera and compositional aspects in artistic sense, but know nothing about the program itself, settings, technical aspect of realization, etc. Your works with DAZ looks stunning. I'm looking forward to the release of your visual novel, this is a completely different level of skill compared to the novels, that I have seen. @@RaukoDaz3D

It has been awhile since I used the look at camera option....I stopped using it because I use Manfriday's Render Que....I don't know if it has been fixed with that or with maybe Daz in general it might be a glitch, but if you use this option and save it(if you're doing batch rendering), close it and then open it again and go into a render, the eyes on on the camera anymore. I don't know if this is a Daz glitch or a Manfriday's Render Que specific glitch. Might be worth to warn about that....hopefully they fixed that by now.
@RaukoDaz3D
@RaukoDaz3D 8 месяцев назад
Yeah, that little glitch still exists (or did the last time I used it) .. Load a scene in and the eyes aren't looking at the camera but it quickly fixes itself if you rotate the camera by one notch and then take it back (or hit undo) .. It seems that the "point at" command doesn't work on a new load until something happens in the scene to cause it to update
@AtomicKnights
@AtomicKnights 8 месяцев назад
I also expected a warning about this because the problem does still exist in Daz. Moving the camera and undo may help but you can forget to do that. Also when you batch render even that is not an option. I was hoping you would tell us how to fix this.
@RaukoDaz3D
@RaukoDaz3D 8 месяцев назад
@@AtomicKnightsI don't know if there is a way to fix it as it's a base Daz issue. I don't do batch rendering myself and so it's not something I come across often .. maybe once in a blue moon when i reload a saved scene (which is rarely!!) and it's only when @mattheweble5550 mentioned it that I remembered about it.

Well, you can do the eyes manually. Point them at the camera, get the exact side-side/up-down positions, and then apply them manually after you turn off the pointing at the camera.
