Sheltering Lion is really funny if you think of it as a sideboard card in a bo3. You cant use it game one but if you lose you can side in the 6/6 and since you've lost the game (but not the match) you can use it
extort really do be like that though, the cost is in the reminder text, which is why the b/w hybrid mana is technically not part of the color identity of cards with extort, allowing you to run them in mono white or mono black decks
@@ScornfulEg0tist huh I learned something new! Did not realise Extort breaks the standard templating for abilities - I guess because it's a triggered ability?
@@TooShortPlancks It's not because it's a triggered ability, it's because the mana you pay has a fixed cost. It's the only keyworded ability with a specific cost inherent to the keyword. Cycling is an activated ability that has different costs despite always doing the same effect, but if they decided have a specific cost baked into Cycle, then it could be templated like Extort. This quirk of color identity is also why a mono-Green creature with "tap:add 1 mana of each color" can go in mono green while the same creature with "tap: add WUBRG" would be restricted to 5 color decks.
