I bet years from now old yakuza tell this story to children. "My initiation was tough. They took me to this bar, where the bartender was this terrifying westerner. They called him NO FACE. They took the toughest drink they had, and I had to drink with him. He never reacted. Nothing. No face."
I can't believe Jacob has two different stories in two wildly different locations that basically go the same way: "Taking shots with an organized crime initiate and the initiate getting decked in the face for reacting"
See, this makes me want to come up with a magic item in DND, "Jacob's Shot Set". Wondrous Item: This is a set of ornate shot glasses and a large bottle of alcohol. When the bottle is opened, it always has enough liquor of any variety to fill up every shot glass. Cursed: If exactly two shot glasses are filled, a humanoid of a random race appears next to the holder. He demands the holder and one person drink, and if either make a face, he makes one attack on that person, then vanishes.
So I remarked to my gf that of all the DB people, Jacob is the one I’d most like to party with. Now I’d like to append: “...as long as he doesn’t go behind the bar.”
Specifically the part which goes "recieve physical punishment to reinforce the lesson you just learned that although you may be a gang member now, random wuss looking people on the street are still harder asses than you so don't buss with them."
