I loved Tommy Morrison. Superb left hook on him. But my God Lennox Lewis is easily one of the finest Heavyweight boxers in history. A magnificent specimen of a fighting man. Todays boxers would be destroyed by him…….and indeed Morrison. Fact.
So true, you ain’t joking! Lewis can be argued to be a top 4 of all time. Has a win over every man he’s ever faced. Only 2 defeats out of all the great guys he fought. Beat holyfield when holyfield was still good. Roughed out the win against Mercer who was a beast, beat Tyson, a young peak Shannon Briggs was easily and skilfully slaughtered, the KO of Rahman was a work of art worthy of the British museum, what an incredible boxer. Anyone who says Fury would have beaten Lewis doesn’t know a damn thing about boxing. He’s capable of beating anyone in history. And that’s including Ali. Not saying he would win, but he’d have a great chance. Todays heavyweights like fury don’t know they’re born compared to Lewis’s career. Fury isn’t even defending at all in 2023! How the hell the wbc let him get away with doing whatever he likes and NOT bothering to even talk about a forthcoming defence of THEIR belt is a mystery. When will he ever fight again? Next October? Nearly 2 years out as ‘champion’ for doing nothing at all? He’s an absolute disgrace. A farce. 👍
Fair points! Lewis is without doubt in the top 5...his CV says it all beat the best around shame he couldn't add Bowe to his record, we know what happened. He's also a gentleman out of the ring.
@@tommackay7433but yet he only had 2 defeats. Lucky shots too but still you can’t take anything away from McCall and Rahman. They did it. Both avenged. When Lewis KO’d Rahman it was one of the best one -twos in heavyweight history. Lewis tried that combo in the 3rd round and both landed but not quite right, and Rahman was alarmed as hell, but Lewis held off until the next round, tried it again, missed, then tried it later in round four and got the most perfect KO of his career. It was a work of art. And the way he smiled at a peak Shannon Briggs as he made him miss 3 shots with his hands down and then decked him was a classic scene when we remember the Great Lennox Lewis. What a shame we have to put up with the likes of Fury these days. Usyk is good but Lewis would’ve handled him I’m sure of it. A 6 foot 4” giant supreme boxer puncher like Lewis was. I’ve no doubt at all that Lewis would beat Usyk. Usyk has never faced any fighter anywhere near Lennox in his career. I like Usyk a lot though. A class guy, great human being. Just as a real champion should be. 💥🥊
Nah he just weathered the storm better. He was always around when everyone else was. But he dodged he wasn't so good in his prime like the rest. He just didn't wash up in his latter years.
Lewis was a far superior fighter, even if Morrison had been in his prime.....Morrison did have an absolute hammer for a left hook though. One of the best in history.
Lewis was a better fighter than many realized at the time. To shut down Morrison like that is impressive. Lewis was a legit pugilist. The self control and timing of a master with strength to boot.
He was in the flim with Rocky was the flim called The Young Rocky , becoming king off the year R I P my friends we are not going any place we are right behind you , In the name of Jesus Christ our savour, We are the living an keep on living not giving up thoug cancer heart attacks we will beat it for the young ones show them we can do it Give Thanks to The Father’s up above Us
@@kawikadee9670 Boxer Tommy Morrison Never Had HIV According to Experts by Kyle Dalton Published on April 13, 2020 Tommy Morrison made a name for himself in the ring, defeating the likes of George Foreman and Razor Ruddock.
@@chaliwen7217 You couldn't be more wrong. You could tell he had aids he was dying. Just look at the difference how he used to be. It was aids and hiv all the way.
Tommy Morrison had a left hook like Mike Tyson the best left hook ever ,Tommy had too much limelight ,which cost him his life Lennox Lewis definetly was a great jabber and had a knockout punch to boot R.I.P Tommy Duke Morrison
Uh...the exact opposite.... Put to sleep by two journeyman.... The most overrated HW champion in history who benefited immensely from Manny's tutelage...like another fake overrated HW albeit more of a fake - younger brother of his other fake HW who Lennox ducked after he was stopped by that cut
Boxing is still good man. It’s just not as good as it was back then. Especially in the heavyweight division. There is some great talent in the smaller weight classes now. Especially 10+ years ago when we had Mayweather, Pacquiao, Dela Hoya etc… Now we got Canelo, Ggg, Terence Crawford, Errol Spence, Tyson Fury, Usyk, Lomachenko, Tank Davis etc…. There is still some insane talent out there.
@@dnx112 Right!!!!! Lewis ducked everybody until they were shot, and then then claimed the big victory, just like Mayweather. He didn't even turn pro until Tyson was on his way down, and they're the same age.
But you know a prime George Foreman would have Destroyed Tommy Morrison. Big George was 20 years older and went the distance in a 12 rd fight with Tommy at times turning his back to run from Old slow hard hitting Big George. but If same age there would not have been no 12 rd decision it would have been another devastating KO on Big George behalf, no doubt about it!
The best era of heavyweight boxing. And on a side note: notice how Mills Lane has a word with Lennox at the end of the first round, about pushing on the back of Tommy's head. Impeccable refereeing.
Mills Lane was one of the best referees in boxing history. Laid down the law, let fighters engage in the clinch and didn't take shit from anyone. They don't make them like him anymore.
Lewis would have beaten Tommy regardless.he was just the better fighter who could box and punch and fought far better opponents than Morrison and Tyson.
LMFAO...guy rolls out of bed after a drunken/drugged rampage and goes and boxes the greatest HWs of his time...guy was an absolute monster. Sometimes I wonder how many more skulls he would have dented, had he actually took care of himself.
These were the dayz! Emmanuel Steward was the best Mentor I have ever seen, analyst 2. Roy & Lennox r best box & analyst! They can Fight falling down! ES made like 50 champs!
This is why LL is an all time great: He made an outstanding HW like Tommy look ordinary. If Tommy were alive today and in his prime, he'd be top of the tree. No doubt about it. He just had the misfortune to fight in one of the strongest eras in HW boxing history. Seriously, the talent from 93-03 was insane: Lewis, Tyson, Holyfield, Bowe, Tua, Mercer, Foreman v 2.0, Moorer, Byrd, Briggs, Klitschko Bros.... Just a crazy talent rich time for the HW division.
I agree pretty much, not sure tommy would be top 3 as he was though but that being said tommy never fought at his full potential. He slacked on training, partied, drinking, skipping training etc. At his full potential I think he could be a force today but as he was no. I say top 15 atleast if not top 10 though but one of the top 3 as he was I dont think he would
@@malzzzzification25 I think at Morrison's best as he was Lewis was still better but Morrison never saw his full potential so who knows how he would've done if he did. Morrison was at his best in the Ruddock fight and I think Lewis wouod beat that Morrison as well but as i said, tommy never saw his full potential. To much partying, drinking, drugs, girls etc. Take away all that and him train more seriously, who knows, maybe that version of tommy couod beat Lewis. Its up fir the imaginationion!
What I've always noticed about Lewis is that he was deceptively dangerous. Very well-mannered and carried himself well, but he was actually a vicious fighter.
RIP Tommy. Would have given Ray Mercer a distance fight if he didn't burn himself out trying to get the early knockout. But I love Lennox, he was my all time favourite HW Boxer. 😊😊
As for me, it is the greatest boxing competition in the world. Each boxer gave us best performance. Dangerous punch, powerful boxing gave very ferocious sounds. After all I think it is the best match in the history.
I agree. Lennox's jab was troublesome. I believe this was Lennox's optimal weight. He still got bounce on his feet while keeping power. Ali got a nice one too. But Eddie Futch proved you can offset his rhythm when he jabs during the Ken Norton fight.
@@thomasputti2249She was known as widow. Also it could be, you meet, marry, she dies = his widow. Never meet no widow. Never married no widow but she dies then dead partner or friend.
Morrison is no punk . Actually was a great fighter . Yet Lewis essentially put on a clinic in this fight . Then again he did the same to every great of his era .
"Prime Morrison" .... even in his prime, his chin was clay. .... Do you need some Ray Mercer replays? ....... Most of his biggest wins came against shot fighters. Tillis, Thomas, Ruddock were all shot.....Foreman was pushing 50 years old. ... Beating Joe Hipp was impressive, but Tommy was largely overrated.
@@ajojoe5316 dude shut up already. Those mercer shots would have killed most people, tommy ate like 3 bombs and only went out after the 4th or 5th...his chin was fine.
Tommy Hearns as a heavyweight would have rivaled Ali and more. I don't believe Lewis was as dynamic as Hearns just my opinion. Would have loved to see Hearns as a heavyweight.
@@jayanthony5075 Absolutely. As great as Lennox was as a HW... Hearns was just a different level p4p, something truly unique in the history of boxing on the highest echelon posssible
Bein a swarmer with hooks uppercuts is too the fact of the matter is as good as morrision was and he was good he wasent of the calliber of a frazier, dempsey, marciano or tyson same deal with tua both were good but they were lacking in certin departments.
Everyone is writing Morrison off forgetting he has that one hitter quitter left hook, yea Lewis is the better fighter but Tommy has some skull crushing knockouts under his belt.
Lewis is not better; he's just bigger, and Morrison has AIDs in this fight! Just to give you an idea of how AIDs destroys your physicality....the rock singer Freddie Mercury lost all of his high vocal range to AIDs and could not sing his old Queen songs towards end of his life. That's how much the muscles atrophy when one has AIDs. Not a fair fight here!
Regardless of your thoughts on Morrison the dude could fight and didn't duck anyone tough as nails and fought with respect he just walk into someone bigger and better in Lennox
@CajunRulez how long has it been sense George Forman fought guys come on..guys .they knew he was sick...they knew he couldn't beat a real healthy heavy weight ..so please don't be uneducatinal....that's why Lennox knew to be careful....who knew Lenox got a shot to protect him from Tommy's blood....who ever didn't know this dont need to be commenting
@@godislord3377 😲The Great George Foreman is one of my favorites he packed a powerful punch! It's a shame about Tommy Morrison, just would have liked to see that match! 😲I wasn't trying to offend anyone and Thanks for Sharing your thoughts!
I agree. Morrison should have come out looking for knockout. He tried to box and move some. Not his. Style. Tommy had lousy strategy in this one. He might have lost anyway, but he would have used what brought him.
@@treemann4684 just watch lewis vs mcall 1 and rahman vs lewis 1, lewis was lame at infighting and handled very bad pressure fighting plus his weak chin, morrison was too cautious and was told not fighting on the inside, very shitty plan imo
Ya, that advice makes no sense. He needed to fight Joe Frazier style, coming forward, pounding the body and head of Lewis with those hooks, especially that left hook. Still might not have worked. Lewis was a great fighter with a great chin. Lennox Lewis is the best fighter of his era. He needed to fight Riddick Bowe though.
Tommy Morrison had the worst handlers and corner men. No one even ever heard of any of those guys before Tommy used them. They always gave him terrible advice.
Morrison made him look to good, Morrison would've been better off just throwing everything he had at Lewis in the first few rounds .. It probably wouldn't have worked anyway but with his punching power he would have stood at least a 20 percent chance of knocking Lewis out..
I can recall reading that in 1983, Lennox Lewis on his way to Canada from Jamaica, stopped at the Cus D amato boxing gym in the Catskills for 2 weeks, while Mike Tyson was there, so Lennox knew Mike. In 1984 Lennox was in the Olympics in Los Angeles Super Heavyweight Division, Lennox lost to Tyrell Biggs, who went on to win the Gold Medal. Now, Mike became the Professional Heavyweight Champion in 1986, and used to constantly challenge anyone to fight him in the ring. Lennox actually is the one that did not take on Mike Tyson. Biggs was chosen over Mike for the Olympics. Mike T when he was World Champ was not afraid of anyone, in fact no one wanted to challenge Mike, including Lennox.
@@brendonnz1964 Lennox Lewis became Olympic gold medalist in 1988 after defeating Bowie in final and after becoming professional he challenged all top boxers from Bowie to Tyson who paid him 4 million dollars in 1996 to avoid fight. Not once did Lewis refused any challeng in his professional career.
Lewis and Tyson sparred when they were young. Tyson was afraid of Foreman and his fights were carefully picked. Most fighters' were. That's why Ali is the greatest, because he fought everyone, often 2-3 times.@@brendonnz1964
@aaron pryor Wilder is a POS. Can't fight his way out a paper bag. Fury got knocked down not out. And if the judge wasn't black fury would have won that fight hands down.
I'm just a casual... but I really gotta hand it to Tommy Morrison.. he throws beautiful punches. Superb athlete..ferocious power, fast and graceful. Hope he's ranked as one of the legendary greats like Ali, Tyson, Duran, Frazier, Louis, Dempsey, etc...
