@@dopedrums Yeah but that's expected, just like the pre-fight weigh-ins and stare-downs, the staring each other down before the fight, etc. It's part showmanship and part trying to psych out your opponent. It's mostly hype building and a little bit of trying to psych-out your opponent.
@@donmclachlan2164 hmm, you've explained yourself clearly and reasonably. This is rare for the internet. I must learn more about Tommy Morrison for myself lol
Man the 90's heavy weight put a shame on the currents ngl the characters they created from killer iconic Mike to iron chin tua then to boxing expert Lewis, crazy man mercer lmao, let's go champ Briggs, and also legend Holyfield aka Steve Harvey and Formen too! Wtf for some reason lol
You are right, and people back then did nothing but talk shit. Same as they do now. 30 years from now, some holographic, space age comments section will be floating in the air will be glorifying The Klitchkos, Fury, Joshua and others.
Johnny Cobalt the thing that's killing the heavyweight division now is that everyone is to scared to fight each other and care to much about their legacy and won't fight people at their competition back then the heavyweight just fought and put on fights the audience wanted to see and that was the best heavy weights going at it eg Holyfield and Lewis, Lewis v Tua, Tyson v Holyfield ect
I know what you mean bro.I have seen some horrible comments on Tommy vids.He was a a young man back then.I almost think his Hollywood move was set up to ruin him.All that money from fights and then the movie money was a lit for a guy his age.He went wild and partied a bit too hard. That left hook though..DAMN!! RIP DUKE
What’s scary is that everyone is talking about tommy’s prime, but fail to realise that we never saw tommy’s prime. He started declining when he was still in his development stages due to his personal problems with drugs and HIV. If he hadn’t gone that route, he would’ve had double if not triple the highlights he has now. R.I.P legend 🙏🏽
You nailed it . We were robbed as boxing fans but blessed to get what we got. If he could have stayed clean and humble it would have been an unbelievable career.
He never did test positive ever and on his post-mortem states he never had it! There was some very dirty politics going on with Morrison ! I think he may have put his Johnson into someone’s wife or daughter that he wasn’t suppose to.
I noticed that too, kept talking about it all being a learning experience to get better, came across as very respective towards his opponents. Shame he died so young
My uncle, who recently passed away, grew up with and was friend's with Tommy Morrison and always had good things to say about him. It's sad that so many focus on the personal problems in his life and fail to see his legacy and sportsmanship... Great fighter, who was humble in both victory and defeat. Thank you for putting this together! RIP Uncle Jeff and RIP Tommy
I think many recognized that Tommy not only had something special but, more importantly, was a good man. Like many, he had shortcomings but, always got back up, until his body couldn't. He's greatly missed and appreciated by those who recognized what he meant to many people and the love he had for those around him.
Yeah, it’s sad that so many focus on the fact that the a hole hid he was HIV positive and continued to fight. He easily could have infected others. He was NOT a good guy. Good guys don’t hide that they have a disease that could kill you if you mingled blood.
I watched Tommy growing up as a kid, and always rooted for him. He was a great fighter and always was humble in the ring. Rest in peace! Great tribute!
Bravo to you Michael for making the effort to show the special appreciation to this humble man and wonderful fighter, it was unfortunate he contracted the dreaded HIV, otherwise his legend would have reached even greater heights, admiration from a Greek fan in Australia.
Word. To the best of my knowledge, he was a good guy. His cousin Trent was the sheriff in my small town growing up. He taught me martial arts. The Morrisons were tough people, but good people. I remember Tommy visiting my town on our annual summer festival in the 80's.
Tommy was a very fast puncher and had a thunderous, legendary left hook. He could have been a legend himself if his defense was better (he was vulnerable to uppercuts because he didn't hold his elbows together) and could have resisted to women, booze and drugs. Tommy was a likeable guy from the mid-west. RIP Tommy.
@@cmsmith1031 not for a while now, unfortunately. Probably part of the reason women think toxic masculinity is a thing now, even though I've always just defended my own, and stayed the nice guy, myself. I had hands as a youth, and I was very powerful for 145lbs. Hut like 210, and fast like Prince Nassim in the day. Now I'm slower, not as powerful, and not really training anymore amd that's likely why. Moral of story, keep it up, even if ya never use it. Some day, the world may be such a way these skills are needed, so don't lose your arrows from your quiver, to find they've been dropped somewhere along the way, when you go to retrieve them.
There are marked differences in people's lifestyles. Some are more virtuous than others. Some deserve praise or censure respectively. The guy you criticised may have been a degenerate himself, and may have been totally aware of it too. He didn't compare himself to anybody, something you failed to observe. In fact, you were guilty of the same behaviour you criticized. With your logic, you looked as "holier than thou" as him, in the eyes of everyone reading your comment, you seeming better than him, boasting of abstaining from criticizing others as degenerates. In other words, you are better than him, in your own eyes.
One thing I loved about Tommy was that he was so humble and really mainly worried about a personal goal of his, getting better. He didn't dwell into the trash talk like alot of boxers do he just showed up and went to work.
That is probably the biggest difference between him and his brother, he took the time and treated everything as a learning experience and then learned from it while his brother just said fuck it and did whatever.
And how he talks as well. He sounds "intelligent". He answers questions coherently. Listen to a like of guys now and it's soundbites and catchphrases and trash talk.
That is just the tiniest portion, imagine how it felt to take all those shots right to the jaw afterwards and still be able to put down your opponent. I've broken bones in my face and my elbow and I can guarantee you right now that I wouldn't keep fighting afterwards that's for damn sure lol.
Wasnt a boxing fan growing up, but i remember Rocky V and heard this guy was a real boxer and not just an actor. 25 years later I finally see that he was indeed a powerhouse as a boxer and not just an actor trying to be one.
It's the best thing to do really especially in today's age because when you trash talk and predict you will. Win by knockout then go get your ass handed to you, you just look stupid and the Internet never forgets lol
Staying humble is how you stay focused it’s when you start flaunting your self and letting everyone shower you with fear and respect that makes you slip. You start feeling like your just unbeatable then boom night time for your pride and career
Sadly, he had a fatal attraction to diseased women of loose behavior.. 🥴 If only he was modest about sticking his mushroom into every good-looking female menstruating meatbag who are attracted in the thousands to money and fame.. Mayhap the man could have been a legend and still dwelling in the realm of the living today.. 😓
Sat close to Tommy on a Soutwest Airlines flight many years ago. Most people left him alone but there was a small group of young ladies who couldn't help themselves and had to have pictures, etc. Tommy was kind and gracious.
Yh but all credibility is gone when you know he was an avid steriod user and aboided fighting in states with testing. So while skilled and likeable tarnishes his career
He was an decent heavyweight but just the great white hope/hype at the time tbh. As soon as his oppositions of opponents stepped up he started looking very bad and loosing very badley too.
In the years I drove taxi in Las Vegas, I had both Tommy and George Foreman on different occasions in my cab. Both men were very friendly and I especially enjoyed my conversation with Tommy. Rest in Peace Duke.
One of my favourite qualities of the Duke of boxing, he never got suckered in to that and I reckon that's why alot of people loved and respected him so much, God bless you Tommy morrison xx
Man what a great fighter. He definitely deserved more spotlight. Not just him others too. It's a shame that he is mostly known as: The Boxer who got Aids, or the guy from Rocky 5. He had a great career and he was only 27 when he had to quit. Around 50 fights
@@thegreatdamiano8565 He was already a great one but he would of been an all time great if he would of fought from 27-33 dude didn't even get to fight his peak of his prime years and still beat a handful of elite fighters

Had the pleasure of meeting him twice. Once was in Virginia at an Arcade I worked at when he was training for a fight at VMI. Him and his coach came in and I gave them a bunch of free games. He signed an autograph that day for me and I got one for my Dad as well, who was also a huge fight fan. The second time I met him was in Vegas years later and my Dad was with me that time. We went to the weigh-in the day before and got to talk with him afterwards. He took pictures with my Dad and I and signed autographs again. He was to have fought Arthur Weathers the next day as a tune-up fight for his upcoming fight with Tyson. I asked him when he was gonna knock out Weathers and he said, "As soon as he makes a mistake." Unfortunately I never got to see him fight in person, because when my Dad and I were at the fight the next day, they announced that Morrison would not be fighting because of a medical reason. When I got back to L.A. I found out on the news that it was because of his HIV diagnosis. I was absolutely crushed to hear this news. He was still so young and had such a promising career ahead of him. Still has an impressive record for his relatively short career with 48 wins, 42 KO's, 3 losses and 1 draw. He without a doubt had one of the most devastating left hooks in boxing history and his right wasn't half bad either. Thanks for putting together this greatest hits of his. The cleaned up videos look amazing. Cheers to an obvious fan of the sweet science.
Tommy Morrison was a great dude, never ran his mouth & was one of thee toughest & greatest boxers in boxing history, Rest in Peace Tom ....its a shame he left us so soon ....
OMG, I swore TYSON was the greatest and he very well may be and I thought "Tommy would not be able to play defense as well against Iron Mike" however was I wrong Tommy just LIKE Tyson mixed up his defense with offensive, they are the same in nearly every level and who knows who would of WON.....Tommy had some scary POWER as did Tyson, whoever was having the better day or lucky enough to connect first?.... Nah, I think whoever of them could EAT more punishment would of WON and its as simple as this.... The question is, is that the great white hope or Iron Mike..... Mike had a much better run obviously and both were screwed in their own ways however, there is absolutely COMPARING.... Ali is the "Fastest" boxer to ever live, Mike might be the greatest as now we will never know with Tommy's limited RUN.... But WOW - that power, he almost "killed that guy".... like literally, "killed" him....
Morrison wasn’t even a top 10 fighter in his prime .. I know because I was a huge boxing fan in that in that decade I watched every major fight Morrison was a scrub back then
@@pighater951 Says the guy who can't figure out how to write a sentence. Somehow, I'm sure the irony will be lost on you. I won't even get into your claim he was a "c class" fighter lol.
RIP Tommy. You were one in a million. Love to see your fights still. Not many people get to command the love and respect that you did, especially from adversaries.
Morrison was a great fighter at times. His attitude was good, and he knew what he had to work on, but his lifestyle out of the ring often left him less than adequately prepared for some of his fights. If he could have avoided the out of ring distractions he could have been one of the all time greats. That left hook was a bomb when it landed. But his right was pretty awesome, too. His biggest flaw was that he was too easy to hit. That could have been worked out if he just would have dedicated himself more to training and less to partying. Even as he was, he was one of the most exciting boxers of his era.
A shame he wasn’t more dedicated in his boxing career and was too busy partying and all that. He could have been listed as one of the greatest heavyweights. In actuality he is listed as one of the greatest but if he dedicated his life on his training he would be ranked much higher and definitely wouldn’t have had that awful upset.
He wasn't such a great fighter afterwards. A great fighter, is not only physical and skills. But also the right mentality and hard work to be the best. It's a shame because he could have gotten a lot more out of it.

I never downplayed a damn thing. Its just simply the truth. Adrenaline is the main reason a boxing match lasts so long. The numbing effect it has allows for 2 boxers to take solid blows to the chin. These same boxers can have the match end cool off and be knocked out cold by any average Joe. Or the same dude they just took 100 punches from in the ring. Don't downplay adrenaline kid. Cause if you really think anyone's chin is as solid as it is in this sport. You must've never been to a bar and seen a real bar fight. People of varying sizes get slept week in and week out. Tommy is one of those boxers that hits harder and faster and with more ferocity than the average boxer. It’s visually apparent when you watch Tommy’s fights. The fact that Tommy continued fighting after breaking his jaw and winning the match shows hoe much heart he had. I was so hopeful that Tommy would live up to the hype and expectations, but he wanted to live life and have fun like most people in their 20’s. Sad story.
