Thanks for your intro to the F4. The panel you refer to as an Inertial Navigation System is actually the control panel for the GVR10 Navigation Computer. This was an air data driven system whereby the coordinates were entered manually and relied on true airspeed to update the aircraft position. The FGR2 did have a Ferranti Inertial Navigation system fitted where the Control and Display Units were on the right console in the Nav's position.
Boresight, one thing I learned from Sim Works F-4B excellent rendition for FSX/P3D was that at landing speeds YOU MUST NEVER USE AILERONS or the Phantom will rapidly get unstable. You should ONLY use the rudder in landings to make turns. And it works! (at least for their Phantom in those simulators).
One thing about flight model: When still on design sketchs, FGR 1 & 2 powered by RR Spey engines were a great idea! The British engine promised a better thrust, a better Thrust-tp-weight ratio, a better fuel consumption (Speys are turbofans. J-79 were still turbojets). They expected get even higher max. speeds. They firmly believed Mach 2.4 - 2.5. In fact, British Phantoms became the most powerful Phantoms but the slowest Phantoms of all, at the end!. They barely could get Mach 2.0. Why? Speys were turbofans. They needed a larger amount of airflow, so, RR engineers working with McDonnell's designed larger air intakes. Exhausts were notoriously larrger too. They "hung" under the rear fuselage much more than J-79s did on American Phantoms. The result of all of this: more drag; more drag that the more powerful engine could not compensate.
I'd sure love to take a flight tomorrow after work. Not fantastic, but looks nicer in the cockpit than the 1:32 scale Revell F-4E, I built in 1972 at 10 years old. Anyway, I'm looking forwards to flying this plane quite a lot. I know I'll do another around the world flight in it (I did one trip flying the P-38 in January. )
Great vid as usual Mr Boresight. Shows us what's contained in the package at purchase. I'll be joining the queue for this one on release day for sure. Keep up the good work I'm glad someone still does proper reviews to inform the consumer, not just blatting round in outside view screaming "woo hoo this rocks"
🤣 Thanks buddy, Looks like there are way too many people out there concerned on how things look rather than how it flies, not to forget this was a preview copy and not the finished article but hey, you can't please them all.
Fantastic clip I flew the f4 on Vatsim last week but I couldn’t tune in the comm frequency for Scottish the digits were 134 .775 I could only get 134.75 or 134.80 ni couldn’t get the i between freq dialled in ,any idea how to over become this . Maybe I’ll have to get an app to select the atc freq when in Vatsim instead of using the f4 comm selection Thanks Dave
I'm so sad, but DC Designs will have to modify dimensions: F-4J and FGR2 radomes are too long! Besides, J-79s of second series had a larger exhaust, so, F-4J and F-4E had those long exhausts, but NEVER SO LONG! F-4E longer nose seems to be in the right lenght, but it is not well profiled. Its upper profile is NOT a curved one. I believe they never stopped and accurately modelled their external Phantoms as they really did in the F-15 and F-16 that are in my opinion, excellent simulations. Sadly I warned DC Designs about this, but sadly they did not pay attentiuon to the warning. However textures look quite good, functions are acceptable for what they promise, I have the idea avionics were quite different between American and British Phantoms, since British demanded to integrate as many gadgets (even engines) from British origin as they could. So, I believe panels should look quite dissimilar, even though. I haven't tried the flight model. It would be quite exciting to know the thoughts of some ex-pilots! It shouldn0t be hard to find. The effects I've seen are wow! The afterburners and the sounds are the best, I think. The "look" inside the cockpit is quite credible -apart from what I mentioned about FGR2s avionics. In conclusion, DC Phantoms are a recommendable addition, however the external modelling is not as good as it should in some terms that are supposed a good modeler must never fail. I sincerely hope those faulty dimensions may be mended in the next update for the rest of the addon is quite good!
May I ask you a favor. I would like you test at 10000' how fast and far it can last with full fuel on after burner with no wind. I own the TF-104 and want to know if it can go further than the TF-104. I'm really interested to buy it but if the performance are equal, it's not worth for me. As I never jump from airport to airport, I use it to travel far and fast when necessary. The TF-104 can do 1200 mn at mach 1.9 at FL400 in 1h10, I wonder if the Phantom can do the same or better. If you dare to do this test too, I would appreciate. Thanks.
DC Design's planes can fly way further than they should be able to. I took the Strike Eagle 5670 nautical miles at Mach 2. Just don't use full afterburner and it'll have the range of an Airliner while flying twice as fast.
Ok so I finished the test you set before me, I achieved, at FL100, Mach 1.53 and flew 366nm, I might do the test again at FL400 and see what results I get with that. Thanks for watching and the test!
dc designs is garbage. embarrassments to just flight. looks like msfs 2002. the last decent jet in the sim was the jf premium hawk or the ssw f104. and indiafox/dino catteneo do ok...more so. average waiting on justflights premium tornado and blackbird/milviz blackbird. they can keep this trash. until then flying iron just dropped that hot german fire.
I've never seen more hype for a MSFS module. What gives? Is it just that its an F-4? I mean, once Heatblur's Phantom module hits, nobody will fly this in MSFS...
I know what you are saying, No weapon systems or weapons avionics to flick through and the fact you can't shoot anyone down. I use DCS for my shooty shooty needs and MSFS for more navigational and freedom needs. I can 100% see where you are coming from.
@@robin00795 i was on fire when the f14 came out. Then over month I witnessed a complete change in behaviour so I was wondering. Who tested this plane. The textures are 15 years old quality the 3D model is vague when you go around, inside you have huge gabs and you can look outside. And best of all the dev gets angry when you say something bad. He cannot handle it. Support is or was done over Facebook (WTF). The updates to the f14 you can see. The textures now look same bad but different bad. I don’t see that he works on the f14 really. It’s just textures cosmetics trying to mimic metal. Looking at other devs it’s way behind. Basically nearly all fighters are only fun flyers. JustFlight Hawk T1 is a winner and an investment in quality. The textures are from a different planet and the flight model is excellent.
Well, look how fast they pump out planes compared to other quality devs. They seem to just pump them out continuously. Then you have to wait a year or two for them to be finished. Too many good planes coming out in the near future from the competition. Way behind Indiafoxtecho and others.
Please don't tell me this is payware cause I wouldn't install it if it were free!!!!!! Once I saw the inside cockpit I stopped watching! Looks like a shitty portover from like MSFS2000, I wouldn't even place it in FSX. Sub-standard texturing is a DC Designs hallmark and as someone who dabbles in creating them, I did the textures on the MSFS2020 DG-808s by TouchingCloud so know a little about the subject, these textures are complete garbage! I will wait for HeatBlur and indiafoxecho in both DCS and MSFS. Seems like DC Designs just doesn't get it, nothing learned from their releases, just no progression in quality, really a sad outfit.
It looks like a 2005 piece of PC graphic software. It's candidly awful for this day and standard sorry, you should expect better quality for your money!
dcs is becoming a joke...they are promising this plane for 2 years now...i feel sad that MSFS dont do a version of combat, with the base game, that would be so epic, obviously with some graphic optimization MS would be the hotest combat sim out there. Congratz to DC Designs, what a amazing job, for the price. Imagine this Sim with campaigns around the world where you need to refuel, that would be so immersive, making scale in different bases in the world.. anyways, i cant stand anymore the DCS 5 maps, places that no one actually cares, after 1600h of DCS i just feel so bored, i did all the campaigns, online with friends..thats it, there isnt daily or weakly events created by ED to engage the users, im feeling pretty guilty to have spent more than 700-800euros on this DCS thing..i really do
