"Step back, doors closing..."
The Red Line is the first and busiest route in the DC Metro system. Opened in 1976, it operates in large part along Amtrak's Capitol Limited and the MARC Brunswick Line, originating from Montgomery County, MD into the heart of Washington, DC, before making a U-turn back into its Maryland suburbs. The Red Line boasts a total of 27 stops, taking just over an hour to travel end-to-end.
The Metrorail service was launched in 1976 by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), with roots going back to the 1950s. Since then, it's become the second-largest transit rail transit system in America after the New York City Subway. Existing rail cars include the aluminum-skinned 2000/3000 (Breda) and 6000 Series (Alstom), as well as the stainless steel 7000 Series (Kawasaki), with the 8000 Series (Hitachi) set to enter service in 2025. The Red Line spans 32 miles, with speeds topping out around 60 miles per hour. Trains operate in 6- and 8-car sets, where with 6 to 15-minute headways, it takes more than 40 trains or nearly 300 rail cars for the line to run at peak capacity.
Special thanks to the entire Metro staff.

Hey I’ve been having a question but I don’t know where to search for a answer so I’ll ask you how fast is the dc metro and what line moves the fastest and between what stations does this speed occur

Thank you. The Metro trains are designed to go as fast as 75 mph, but for a number of reasons (probably dealing with the tracks and equipment), they're only allowed top speeds of around 60 mph. No particular line moves the *fastest* because it all depends on the spacing of the stops. With that said, stations tend to be more spaced out on the Green Line, because those are the suburbs north and south of DC. So the Green Line north and south of DC, as well as the Blue and Silver Lines east of DC (in Maryland) will give you the longest stretches with the fastest speeds.

The 6000s will still have it. :) With all this AI stuff, it'll be cool if they brought her voice back for the 8000s.
