This video has a lot more information in it than my previous tutorial videos, and much more compact than the last. I hope I didn't come off as too robot-y or monotone. I did have to write a script for this video rather than just go off the cuff like in the previous ones. Either way, I hope you learned from my video and it really helps. When I saw a video of a quite popular ArmA 3-Player picking up DCS and being taught by another quite popular DCS player in the basics of radar and radar-modes, I was quite envious and wished, I had someone, who could show me this in a comprehensible way. Great content ! I never use P-STT, because it does not provide any tracking solution for missiles, except short range boresight. I use the MLC switch to remove the Doppler filter from PD modes, when needed. P modes and PD modes w MLC off don't like ground return, so my best option is to always fly below my targets.

Yeah, P-STT doesn't track accurately enough to display track data, but it does at least allow you to fire missiles at things. Although it really shouldnt be used at any ranges other than within visual range

13:31 When you fire the Aim-54 Phoenix missile, the countdown will start blinking around 15-20. This means that the missile went pitbull (use its own radar). This is useful if you need to go cold, as you don’t need to support the Phoenix missile anymore and is basically a fire & forget. I know you have a more advanced RIO guide but I haven’t watched it so I’m not sure if you covered this. So my bad if I’m repeating information.

It varies more than that. The rule of thumb was 16s, but it can be over 25s at times or as short as 10. Just depends on a lot of things like the target size switch.

12:26 A very small and picky thing, but 5 rounds up so you were 1 ft off. 0 = 0 to 4999ft 1 = 5000 to 14999ft 2 = 15000 to 24999ft

If you're talking about the button underneath the ACM cover on the ACM panel, it's essentially a panic button to drop all your non-essential stores in the event you need to dump all your weight

@@alexm1387 well, I don’t do 1 on 1 training these days unless you join the squadron that I run, and I’m not about to start accepting money like some other DCS content creators even if I believe my knowledge and skill is far better than what they can offer. My best advice is to go and find a group to fly with. Flying solo can only teach you so much. Finding a group to share knowledge with and fly with to improve is your best bet at getting better

Question about the vector bars some seem to be double thickness and stretch out longer in an narrower line , what is that about?

The length of the vector line is just closure symbology, but if you have the Phoenix missile selected and are in TWS then there may be "WEZ" lines that replace the vector lines that give you symbology on a calculated WEZ. The double thickness thing may just be a datalink vector and radar calculated vector overlapping or something. They should all be the same in looks. The WEZ vector lines tho will look noticeably different.

Can someone help me? How to select the IN mode on the TID instead of the MV/IN. Its in the bottom right corner on TID. Its always automatically switching between MV/IN and because of this I loos the contact with all enemies.

The MV on the bottom right of the TID tells you that you have a bad magnetic variance input and the IN tells you that the INS is aligned.

@@eatthisvr6 I’ll have a Combat for RIOs tutorial out at some point in the near future, but for now I’ll help you here. There’s a button right next to the missile launch button in the RIO’s seat that says “next target” which will immediately make the currently hooked target on the TID in TWS the first target in the launch sequence. You can’t designate any further than that unfortunately. As for STT, if you have a target hooked in TWS and just hit the PD-STT or P-STT buttons on the DDD panel and it should lock up the target automatically as long as you and the target aren’t maneuvering

@@eatthisvr6 the AIM-54 is PD only. TWS is also PD only. You’ll need a PD-STT if you want to guide an AIM-54 in STT. Pulse has a usable max range of about 40NM for the average fighter target, anything beyond that and it’ll be hard to hold a lock. It’s only advisable to launch Sparrows with this mode. Since they don’t guide off the AWG-9 but the dedicated CW illuminator located on the dish similar to the F-4 Phantom and the APQ-120.

@@gnomisa Yes, but the virtual horizon is to help you orient while heads down. It's an overlay, not part of the actual TID battlefield info
