One last thing you could do is the auto handoff. After aligning your mavs, set your targeting pod into auto. Find your target on the targeting pod while facing the target so the seeker can see it, then TMS up to auto hand off to the active mav. The display on the targeting pod will display a 'C' on the top of the active pylon number if the mav has the lock. This is the way I always use the mavs as it doesn't require me to have the wpn page up so I can keep the hsd active for better SA.

absolutely agree, when I look for a tutorial/refresher on things, I go to Bogey dope, everyone else has waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to much bull shit to say and promote some other shit for their little pony sponsors for like 5 minutes, everyone else is absolutely ridiculous.
I have a question for you: You're well versed in the real deal and in DCS. I've noticed this on several modern US fighters with MFDs: The SOI functionality. Is that real? Does that exist on the real interfaces? Or is that a consideration of DCS because it's a flight sim and we need certain commands to swap between screens? I'm curious how much of that is real world, and how much is compromise?
Great question. I can't speak to any other fighter except the F-16. As for the F-16, yes. SOI is a functionality in the real jet. It is designed that way in order to allow as much control/input from the HOTAS as possible when/if needed.
You rock BD. Once again you make hundreds of hours in training videos come down to a couple minutes of simple procedure. Not saying it isnt important to learn the long way, but for many of us who fly all kinds of different stuff, or just rusty from taking a break, you are #1 at the touch up on the blank spots probably filled with recent Viggen or Apache sequences.

hello, spectacular video, which points straight to the juice of the discourse, I have a question, in which contexts are the various modes used? When should I use VIS mode versus boresight or pre mode?
I get that the mavericks camera is going to be blurry as it is an ir seeker. But in comparison to all these tutorials everyone’s is crystal clear while mine is so blurry I can’t make out targets and sometimes the auto hand off can find the targets but can’t or has a hard time having a lock on targets

Back for a refresher course. Once you cycle thru all the weapons and learn them, spend time perfecting each and having fun, the earlier tutorials get a little hazy. And there's no better place for F16C tutorials than the Dope. Your soundtrack music, is that just for the video action or do you listen to that kind of music? I love it. I am a metal head at heart and always looking for new stuff.

That is correct. If you make the HUD SOI while in VIS mode, then the hud is in charge of the seeker head at that point, so you'll lose the lock and the seeker head will follow your flight path marker instead. Put your flight path marker on/near a target and hit TMS up, and the seeker will be locked in place on the ground, then your right MFD will be SOI and you can lock a target. Hope that answers your questions.
@@BogeyDope so what strikes me as vague (and I apologize for not getting this), you show locking the target up in the hud, then fine tuning it in the MFD. what you didn’t document was how to fire from that step on. That’s what has me confused on using the maverick. There’s a lot of bouncing between multiple displays but what no one really covers very well is the process AND then deploying the maverick. Other videos either skip what bindings are needed or some other missing steps. Thanks

Once you have the seeker head locked in place on the ground and the right MFD is your SOI(Sensor Of Interest - visually represented by a white box border around the MFD that is SOI), you should then be able to use the Radar Cursor switch (RDR Cursor in the keybinds) to move the seeker head around and fine tune it to zero in on the target you want. Once you have the cross hairs over the target you want, TMS (Target Management Switch in the keybinds) up. That will lock the seeker head onto that target. You can see me demonstrate this at 2:41. Once you lock onto the target, simply hold down the weapon release (WPN Release in the keybinds) button like you would with any other weapon, and the Maverick will fire at that target. Let me know if that answers your question.
@@BogeyDope I did a few sorties last night and I had mixed success. Again, I thank you for your response. One thing I noticed is my MFD seeker head video was light grey on white, very hard to see. (I used the 3-pack ASM offering, can't recall which model that is). I'm also struggling with the range since the Viper is way faster than the A-10, so my time to get this right is very short. Still trying!
@@WhereNerdyisCool There are brightness and contrast buttons on either side of the bottom of each MFD. I usually give the Brightness about 4-5 clicks down and the contrast quite a few clicks up. This helps a LOT with visibility over the grey. As for range. I usually climb (if possible) and get some altitude on the target and then I cut power to almost idle and nose down slightly. If you're nose down and full throttle you will only have a couple seconds. So make sure you aren't up on the throttle. That GE engine is powerful. Cutting it to almost idle while you're coming down on the target area works better. Let gravity do its job. This gives me plenty of time to line up the shot. Just takes practice. Hope that helps!

You're in the right place! I go over PRE mode in this video! I do an overview as well as how to boresight the TGP to the MAVs and then how to use PRE once you have it all setup. It starts at 5:50 into this video. I was able to cram it down to 2 min long here. No, it does not require steer points, but steer points are helpful. If you don't have steer points, you just use your TGP to find a target.
Your Maverick is not boresighted to the TGP. I go over this in the video. If you skip to 6:24, I show how the Maverick is NOT boresighted and then I boresight them all.
RDR Cursor switch (Up down left right). SOI is (Sensor Of Interest). To make a screen/sensor SOI, you use DMS (Display Management Switch) up or down to switch to the different screens/sensors.
As an overwhelmed new DCS user I have yet to see a Maverick leave the rail. No longer. After setting up a target (bulk cargo ships are my favorite) I finally got one off the launcher, airborne and smacked the pilot house precisely where I was aiming. The feeling of satisfaction is so good. It's like a drug. All things considered, there are worse things out there. I only have the Viper and the two free ones. Before I move on to the next plane I decided that I would master every aspect of the Viper before moving on. I have air to air combat pretty much down, air to ground is next. Thanks for the tutorial. I try and watch Wags but he's on another level. Brilliant chap, but I need down and dirty, simple and direct. Just show me how to blow the shit out of something. I will figure out the details later. That's what you do well, blow the shit out of things quickly. Liked and subbed.
I've seen that too. It usually happens when I'm too far away and the seeker can't get a lock. so nothing happens. Keep flying toward the target and keep hitting TMS up until it locks, then let it go. If its taking you uncomfortably close, you can click the selector button above "FOV" on the WPN page to make the seeker zoom in, and then go back to the HUD to use the Boresight cross and that may give you some more distance with a lock as well.
@paddygaming4856 Display management switch (DMS) down to select that screen. The. I press Target Management Switch (TMS) down two times to reset the view.
No, because you are not using your TGP. The only time you need to boresight your MAVs to your TGP is if you are going to be using it to find targets. i.e. PB mode
In VIS mode, you are only using the Maverick seeker and HUD. The TGP is not used in VIS. If you want to use the TGP, then you need to use PB mode. In which case, yes you need to boresight. Boresighting the TGP with the Maverick Seeker is only needed when you are trying to sync the TGP with the Maverick Seeker. If you are going to use the HUD symbology, then you don't need to boresight the TGP to the Maverick. @@chadvader974
@@vaughnbrenda8228 sorry I just re read your question. In VIS mode if you are selecting the spot and then going to the Mav screen and losing that spot it is most likely that you haven't made your MAV screen SOI. Make sure you press DMS down till you have a white square around the MAV screen.

@@BogeyDope ive just bought the f-16 and started to make a mission in syria and ive just hopped back into the plane and rewatching your videos to remeber how to use it but im not getting the full croshair on my agm seeker veiw(like it doesnt cover the whole mfd like usual. there is only a little cross with short 2 horizontal lines below. im not sure why its like this. maybe because ive set waypoints in the mission editor? its not much of a big deal its just harder to lock onto certain targets
