The F-86 had two big advantages over the MiG in real life. One was the hydraulic flight controls. And the other was the lead computing gunsite. The MiG was very fatiguing to fly in high G maneuvers. And the F-86 gunsite with the radar was a real killer. Although the MiG could fly higher than the 86, at high altitudes, it had a tendency to go into a spin. When it did, you couldn't recover. (The MiG 17 had the same problem). A large number of MiG 15s were lost in this way.
would love to see you do a gnat vs sabre item.the miniscule English made & piloted by IAF(Indian air force) jet made hash of the sabre in 1971 IndoPak war. This resulted in the sabre being junked by many a country where it was the front line fighter.
The entire Gnat fleet of the Indian Air Force was grounded during the 1965 war after the plane was savaged by Pakistan Air Force (PAF) F-86 Sabres. A couple of them landed at Pakistani air bases after being cornered in the sky. By 1970s Sabre was made a junk by newer fighters like F-4, Mirage and MiG 21, etc.
Is this based on the IL-2 Sturmovik engine? It certainly LOOKS like Sturmovik...The flight characteristics, even the crash effects on both land and water.
I've been playing with the sabre for about a week. Can't wait to pick up the mig but the next chunk of money for my hobby is going to TrackIR. Are there servers for newbs, or is it pretty much just getting thrown to the wolves?
+Leon “DrixY” Erlandsson I think it's the F-35 Sabre. It has 6 .50 cals too, not 8. The one that had 4x20mm wasn't really mass produced there was not many of them made.
+spoonwitz F-86F-2 is the one with 4x20mm, only 10 were made, 2 were loss in accident. A major flaw was that the engine intake usually ingest propellant gases from the cannons, result in compressor stall. (that's the problem with MiG-9 as well). That's why most F-86 has standard 6x 50cal "Six-Packs". I'm not aware of any version with 8x 50cal, though.
What are your Favorite aircraft? do you like the f-16's and such, or do you prefer the old stuff, I am a big fan of F-16 for its canopy and maneuverability.
+SanFranciscoBay 1. Not a game, it's a simulator. 2. No serious simulators for tablet at the moment. 3. It's for Pc, suitable for powerful laptop. DCS: World is free and comes with 2 planes, you buy the planes you like. www.digitalcombatsimulator.com
Yo Tuckie, want to join in and help assemble a virtual squadron ? I got everything written out for structure, recruitment, training, etc. We could get a few units up and have them do some team ops. Maybe take on some other groups out there.
+Tuckie1000 Oh shet! I have to admit, I've never crash landed like that before, it's probably mostly because I only fly the Mig-21 and in the manual it simply says to eject.. Great stuff, I wonder what kind of beating the Mig-15 can take, to me it looks like a giant can of metal, it must be pretty tough.
Я фигею... Сейбр пропускает по 3-5 попаданий 37мм. + хрен знает сколько 23мм. и спокойно летит дальше. После этого умудряется еще огрызаться!!! С системой повреждений все нормально???
The other guys were noobs right!!!! cause I saw 2 of them dig into water and you overshoot like 3 times or so and they didn't shoot you down, you also dig into the gorund to. Nevertheless it was a fine video
Pubturtle Sure, when against the Chinese and North Korean pilots, the Sabers dominated. However, against Soviet pilots the two were pretty much on par with each other.
+razoleg Russians are known for inflating their data and performance of their pilots, never trust the Russian figures the American and British figured tend to be more accurate because they have resources and know-how to improve on any low figures, for example, the .50cal sabre lacked in it's performance so instead of pretending it's fine and inflating the stats (Like Russians did in WWII) they instead formed project GUN-VAL to make the Saber F w/ M39 revolving cannon - which brought the kill ratios way up.
razoleg "We" there's the confirmation bias. I'm not American, I'm from New Zealand, I have an independent view on the situation and from what I've seen the USSR and smaller forces always exaggerate the figures, it's vital to them, especially being the smaller economies with the lesser resources, not exactly moral inspiring telling the people how clubbed you're getting, the U.S can afford to get clubbed and fix the issue almost infinite resources to do it.
As opposed the the US military support of allies? As far as production and innovation the US led the way since before the conclusion of WW2. The Soviets copied the B-29 right down to the battle damage for christ sake. Russia was no slouch back then, and when the Korean war started the Migs had the upper hand without question. But, to deny that they went from "total air superiority" to "in serious trouble" when the F-86 entered the fray is just intellectually dishonest.
GlisteningKintamas yep a 37 and two 23mm cannons (mig-15) vs 6 .50cal guns (f-86A-5) Later variants ( from F-86F till later) mounted 3 20mm guns and sabre marks 30mm guns.
