DCS Needs Matchmaking?

I've been a keen DCS player for a few years now and I absolutely love what Eagle Dynamics have made but for me, there's always been a small piece of the pie missing! A competitive matchmaking mode enabling quick turnaround trackable DCS dogfights. In this video, I go into a little more detail about my thoughts, hopes, and ideas for a DCS Dogfight mode.
If you have any ideas or disagree with my point of view make sure you voice it as it a conversation that needs to be had.

The way you propose it it could be just a paid membership MP server where you sign up to have your stats tracked. Doesn't really need to be inside DCS. Not a fan of any type of matchmaking myself so I 'd stick to regular MP servers. That said, back in the days of Flanker v1.5 we used to have a challenge ladder where you'd join in the middle of the ranking and by doing 1v1 with pilots higher than you in the ladder you'd progress, provided you won. But this kind of "matchmaking" was under your control in some way, meaning that it was up to you whether you'd challenge an opponent close to your ranking or much higher/lower skilled.

That sounds pretty cool. But for myself I’d like to see eagle dynamics take the reigns and build something really bullet proof.

Ref the TWS comment, I saw video about that "game" being a scam, with youtubers saying they want their name no-where near it. Pretty sure its fake! I think your idea takes away from the point of DCS. A sandbox game. Notice how all tthe huge servers are all sandboxes. I think the GS server practically already is your idea.

I would worry about a subscription based model infecting ED as a business. As observed in many other games, once they go down that path, they can't stop. It's like a drug for gaming companies. After that, it will be micro-transactions and before you know it, you'll be paying for liveries.

If they could seperate it so the game as it stands at the moment stayed as is and the new dogfight mode was introduced but you just needed to subscribe to that mode without affecting any other parts of the game I few like that would work. I just see what the e done with the likes of iracing and while it’s quite expensive the whole competitive side is so flawlessly implemented.

I would definitely NOT be interested in something like that, so I woudln't pay for it. So there had to be an option to opt-out of it, i.e. not pay and not have access to it...

I was thinking that people would have to sign up to it as an extra so not part of the main sim.

Nope! Thats not what DCS is about to me.

DCS Is not meant to be a competitive sim

I get where you’re coming from. I still think there’s a huge opportunity to have more fun in the sim. I’m guessing you’d be against it?

@@g-locmediaI think he’s right, they just need to separate it from dcs a little, maybe a depart section in dcs or an new game that is just easy multiplayer
@UWfalcin
@UWfalcin 10 месяцев назад
But you can still make it one. Put two very experienced dcs pilots against each other in a competitive environment and you got it.

DCS dogfighters and other MP dogfight servers already exist for this exact reason. While there’s no official matchmaker (and I don’t think there should be) there’s a lot of discord activity on these servers so players get to know each other and fly against others with a similar skill.

I think it still lacks an important price which would be the progression tracking. Also it’s not a system where the best pilots rise to the top.

As a separate game mode it might be pretty cool for some guys. Not a fan myself, but I know there are others out there that would love it. Good discussion for DCS.

Yea I’m. Definitely one of those. I end up only flying offline missions and dogfighting I reckon.

For myself, I do not know how you would create this hierarchy towards being an ace, but I LOVE competition and would gladly pay a subscription price of even more than five dollars. I am thinking of a collaborative effort by maybe a couple companies to get this out there quickly and be very robust!

I’m on board with you. Im actually really surprised how much push back there is for something like this. I’m positive lots of people would use it.

maybe instead of restrictions, add different game modes maybe. limited fuel mode, limited time mode etc. Maybe have players rent a server and set up custom restrictions. As far as what aircraft to use, I think there should be the choice to pick, but it should be restricted to eras. (early cold war, late cold war, props v props), or let the players customize it so you could do props vs jets. As far as tracking skill for matchmaking, you could take stats such as fuel management, kills, deaths (k.d ratio) time to kill, so how quickly you could finish the fight, what weapon was used, so if was guns how many rounds were expended.
@g-locmedia
@g-locmedia Год назад
You have some great ideas there. Although I feel like the game modes would need to be kept simplified until there was a large player base.

The model used by iRacing could give some very good hints on how to set it up. They have been doing racing for fifteen years so they have it dialed in. Granted the first person to cross the finish line wins, but if this was like real-world fighting I would suggest when you croak or eject in the session you are done! Make each players start at the ramp and do the fuel/weapons load-out. Maybe forty miles apart?
@g-locmedia

I like this idea about starting on the ramp.
