VORTEX RING STATE... sounds frightening but it really shouldn't be, as long as you avoid the conditions that cause it's onset.

Vrs or settling with power. Either low forward airspeed, Too high vertical velocity over 300 feet per min or insufficient collective power will cause it. To get out of a VRS state or settling with power situation, Nose forward to gain airspeed and watch your VVI when entering a hover or slow speed flight.

Not on a longitudinal tandem rotor helicopter buddy…you want to slip sideways to get out of VRS state, otherwise you’re just throwing you rear rotor into your front downwash.
