I am back in the Hornet on the Burning Skies US Command Center Server on a SEAD/DEAD mission. Takeoff is from Nellis and it's a short flight to get within HARM range of the area designated as Bunkerville. The enemy has had time to significantly increase their SAM presence along with several search radars.
I make two trips and send 8 HARMs at the enemy installations with some great success.

Always like your vids; very informative. Having 4100 hours but still learning something new each time. 🤙🏽

Thank you for that! I am constantly learning as well. It’s crazy, you think you have mastered it all and then you discover something else, some new aspect or method which you had not considered and it opens up so many possibilities.

Nice Work!! Like the way you combined TOO and PB. Amazing how we can get locked in to doing things one way. Hats off for finding a better way! As always enjoy your videos. I need to get settled in one spot and gear in to just a few modules so I can get “gud”. Keep ‘em coming!

Thanks! I grew frustrated with TOO because if you just hand-off and fire at the boxed emitter, it might be 100 nm away or 20. So I realized I could slew the TD diamond to the box and get a distance fix. Pressing the TDC designates the location and that's when I realized I could jump to PB mode and fire at the emitter. PB has the benefit of symbology letting you know when it's in range and more importantly, has significantly longer range. It's also much more accurate (at least in my experiences). I have many aircraft which I have yet to fly. I always intend to start learning another but then I figure out something else in one which I know well and then I want to fly that some more. I've decided for now I will stick to the Hornet and Strike Eagle. I really like the Hornet because it has so many modern amenities which the Strike Eagle lacks... but I can't resist the Strike Eagle's raw power, fuel capacity and payload. It's just so fun to fly. I need more hours in the day so I can fly more!

I hear you!! Started in DCS about 3 yrs ago and have been through a lot of modules. Also life has thrown a couple of curves so my DCS time has been sporadic at times. I’ve flown the Mustang, F86, Warthog, Hornet then helicopters because I’d never flown them. Settled on the Harrier for a while because it’s fun and good performance compared to the A10. Now I’m back to the Hornet cause I love supercarrier and the aircraft. Maybe I’ll stay here long enough to get proficient! But the Phantom and Kiowa are coming…….? Sorry to be so long winded but we’re in the process of moving and my Sim is elsewhere. Will continue to enjoy your videos, learning a lot. Thanks!

@@greyeagle5199 Ahh yes.. Moving.. I've don e that a lot.. One of the first things I do is.. Get the internet up and running and Wifi in place. Next, my computer system. :) But yes, the Hornet is a lot of fun to fly. Carrier ops are so much fun and challenging. CASE III landings can age you at first but eventually are pretty straightforward. Aerial refueling in the Hornet has become easy as well. I tried refueling in the Strike Eagle the other day... I need some practice with that. Man I sucked.

FWIW…Back in the day I was with USAF near St Louis, MO. McDonnell Douglas had a facility at Lambert Field where the new F15 would make numerous flights. Particularly impressive was when they would request a “lightening climb”. All other traffic would be held and a flight of 2 would take off in full burner and at the end of the runway stand on their tails until they were out of sight. Accelerating 90 degrees straight up. Saw that a few times and never forgot it! 👍👍

If you find that, let me know!! I feel your excitement about the SE. Was tempted but now….the Phantom is taking all my time. An old itch I’m finally getting to scratch! It is really something, particularly the flight model. You need to get it, HB nailed it in every respect.

I bought it! I wasn’t sure how much time I will have for it plus I’m a sucker for newer and shiny with gadgets to do my work for me.

You won’t regret it! BTW, been meaning to ask you how you like the FFB stick setup? Been reading some stuff and everyone seems to love it.

You won’t regret it! Don’t forget that it’s old tech and you’ll actually have to do some work yourself! Enjoy!😅

Cool video, do you find PB mode is more accurate than designating in TOO mode?
@StrIIker-TV
@StrIIker-TV 5 месяцев назад
TOO mode is honestly hot garbage compared to Pre-Briefed mode. TOO flies in a flat trajectory from your aircraft to the target so the range is significantly reduced and I find that TOO mode misses much more often than PB mode. In the video, I really only missed one target because the other flight had killed it already before my HARM got to it and the other because it was moving. I assume it stopped radiating while moving otherwise I think the HARM would have guided to it. TOO mode has its uses for snap shots but that’s also what self defense mode is for also self defense mode can hit a target behind you or way off to the side whereas TOO can’t. I have had significant successes with Pre-Briefed mode and significant failures with TOO. Another consideration is to at a bare minimum, make the HUD in command and use the TDC to determine the range of the emitter before firing a HARM IN TOO mode to make sure you aren’t launching at an emitter 100 nm away.

@@Rexxxy77-77 Thank you! It’s funny because this felt more like a tutorial type of video in the end which was unintentional but I think it worked out well.

PB and you used no code?? I do what you do but always input a code, so the harm know what to hit when it gets to the WP
@StrIIker-TV
@StrIIker-TV 5 месяцев назад
I am always entering a code for PreBriefed. I know I mentioned it and I also for a couple of PB code entry moments, displayed the HARM code with text in the video. I also right towards the end showed the kneeboard which I use to get the codes from. Due to how the kneeboard is an XR layer which is not visible to OBS which I use to record, you don’t get to see me look up the codes each time.

Is that your awacs with the female voice? Part of the server or something else?
@StrIIker-TV
@StrIIker-TV 5 месяцев назад
Yes that’s the AWACS. The server admin made a mod for the server which takes the output of a custom AWACS and pipes it through the SRS channel (305.000). You can call for a bogey dope and get the closest aircraft or picture which do which lists 4 of the closest but the audio just speaks the closest. You can also request a picture of friendly aircraft. He made this mod so we would not have to listen to the crappy DCS AWACS which spams over and over. He disabled that AWACS.
@skyecommander2169
@skyecommander2169 5 месяцев назад
@@StrIIker-TV Sounds good. The in game awacs is pretty annoying to listen to with that dry scratchy voice. Is this an Open beta or Stable server?
@StrIIker-TV
@StrIIker-TV 5 месяцев назад
@@skyecommander2169 Yeah also the game AWACS constantly lists bogeys and it honestly is useless. The server admin on the Burning Skies server made a great choice in that if you don't want to hear the AWACS calls, you just don't tune into that channel. The onscreen display listing the contacts is very useful as well when you request picture because you can see the 4 closest contacts which is useful if an enemy AN-26 transport is at 20 nm and the enemy MiG-29 is at 25 nm because calling for Bogey Dope will only list the AN-26. As for which stream this is (open beta or stable), Eagle Dynamics recently ( a few months ago) merged open beta and stable so there is only a single stream now so have at it!
