Just to follow up on this. I mainly use the Tartarus for functions not specific to aircraft controls as I use the PointCTRL for that. The Tartarus I use for external views (weapons, aircraft) map view, cockpit view. I use several buttons for opening and closing Open Kneeboard and the native DCS kneeboard as well as moving forward and back for pages and tabs on the kneeboards. I also use the Tartarus to open / close Scratchpad and to add a waypoint to scratchpad from the map view. It has become indispensable for my flying as I am frequently jump to map views, want to see the weapon view, and the kneeboard is used a lot as well. Hope all of this helps you. I have heard that some people use the thumbstick to perform some functions in the F-16 as well.

@@StrIIker-TV that’s exactly what I am planning on doing with it too. Did you use the Razer software to set it up or just map it from the DCS binds? For instance, I have WinWing stuff but I don’t feel like spending my sim time learning a new program so I just mapped it like a regular HOTAS because there are no default WinWing profiles and I don’t want to download other people’s profiles.

@@nathansargent8513 I just use the default key binds in DCS and then program each key on the Tartarus with it. It’s very basic to do so there’s no learning curve. Same idea with stuff like Open Kneeboard and scratchpad. Define the hotkeys for them and then set that on the Tartarus.
@StrIIker-TV

@@nathansargent8513 Thing to remember is that the Tartarus keys I think have normal values assigned by default which will conflict with other DCS key binds. So just use the Tartarus software. I use two selfbuild tables 20"x12"x20" with like 20" aluminum rail system as columns to mount the stick, pedals & all the extras you want to add later, takes a quarter of space other than that monstrous wood ensamble here^^ how do you even get in that chair without disassembly? abseil from the ceiling?
@StrIIker-TV
@StrIIker-TV 23 дня назад
Heh! Yeah it is a bigger platform however it looks bigger I think than it is. The left and right side consoles are not much wider than the throttle. I did intentionally want the horizontal surfaces on the left and right as I use PointCTRL to interact with the aircraft in DCS. I wanted something physical to put my finger on while I press buttons, flip switches, etc in the cockpit. This is the same for the front panel which is what I find I use the most in terms of resting my finger on it. You can see this happening in several of my other videos where I have a picture in picture view of me interacting with the cockpit. Here's one as an example time stamped to start just after the intro..ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gWxrynTIfSA.htmlsi=JcDNjgUzLgN_JQuY&t=45 As for getting in and out, the front panel is out of the slots and rests against the wall directly in front of my simpit. There is sufficient room for me to step on and get in front of the seat. I do need to straddle over the control stick and lift my leg to get over it and sit. It's a lot easier than it sounds. The left panel easily lifts out and I am making a helicopter collective one which I can slide in for when I want to fly helicopters. Yes, there are more compact ways to do this. I had originally looked into using the extruded aluminum frames but that was very costly. To make my simpit it was around $130 or so (I can't recall what the price was, I think I mentioned it in the video). and I can easily modify it when I need to by cutting some wood, or removing something and drilling it into a new spot (both of which I have done) with little to no additional cost. I did have to buy another 10 foot 2x4 board for the collective mount as I ran out of scrap wood and that cost me $5.00 US.

@@StrIIker-TV I wondered the whole time what that wooden plank in front was for! xD now I get it. I still try to figure out how to get in control of all the switchology. Its quite a battle to find a way to map all the switches. I like my stuff compact and representable in the room, painted the wood I used in black too, also I have nice black aluminum rails. With wood you can play a litlle bit, with aluminum-rails your shit needs to fit first try or you have too much expenses, but it is rewarding afterwards, you can always grow or change your basic setup with little effort. You mainly have to think how to get it done with the least amount of material, that way it stays affordable (and minimal). I think your setup could have been done too with aluminum for reasonable price, the nice thing is you can add in things like joints to integrate a door or easily get a little lean to that front plank etc
@dortywings7217
@dortywings7217 23 дня назад
@@StrIIker-TV maybe I have to add that good wood is expensive in my area. 130$ would have bought me like 5 shelve planks and a few 2x2"s, so using aluminum was overall maybe about only 30% more in cost.

@@dortywings7217 I have no doubt that a better job could have been done. As far as if *I* could have done better.. well, this was my first project working with wood and no real plan other than general ideas. I very definitely suck with woodworking. I've seen so many other projects (including some inspired by this) which look infinitely better. Maybe when I rebuild it, I will make it look better with some nice looking angled cuts, routed edges, etc. But, the good news (for me) is that this matched exactly what I needed and wanted. Being able to move it on the wheels has been so helpful and the modularity allows me to disassemble it and move it from one room or floor to another with no tools needed. When I sit down and put on my VR headset, the whole mess disappears and I am in my selected aircraft cockpit.

@StrIIker-TV
@StrIIker-TV Месяц назад
@@thesouloftheinternet4829 So there is a website which I linked in the Video Description. SimShaker has two components. There is the SimShaker for Aviators which is free. This can be used for people who own the Jet Seat vibrating pad. I really like it. It has 8 motors which vibrate like a massage chair pad however they are activated and controlled by the software. The intensity, frequency and positions correspond to what the aircraft you are flying does. This software is maintained by a guy who goes by F410. He adds new aircraft as they come out if and when he gets the new module. People sometimes donate a new aircraft module to him. The second part is Sim Shaker Sound Module which is owned and maintained by Andre. Andre also is the one who sells the JetSeat pad. He's a nice and helpful guy. He also happens to be living in Russia so there's some challenges around getting the software license (and buying the jet seat if one wants that). If you can't complete the transaction on the website due to sanctions, you need to contact him via his email which is on the website and he can make arrangements with his friends or family living outside of Russia to handle the transaction etc. I think at one point, Andre handled all of the software or was partnered with the other person some how. I don't know the back story but both have been doing this for years for the DCS community. I got all of my stuff in the before time.

Hi! Thank you for your compliment. It was a lot of fun. I can always blast around the sky at 23 000 feet in the Strike Eagle and drop bombs safely and then hop into the Hornet to toss some HARMs at any of these SAM sites which threaten me, but I do like to try to use the Strike Eagle to handle all of these threats. It makes me learn the systems and be creative. As for the drama, I avoid reading the non-stop flow of outrage from half-informed people. We don't know with certainty what's happening between Eagle Dynamics and Razbam. What we heard from Razbam has obvious bias and motivations to sway public opinion in their favor to apply pressure on Eagle Dynamics. Eagle Dynamics was typical business statement stuff which is what should be presented from both parties.. but here we are. Eagle Dynamics has a small following of people who hate them and so they were only too happy to jump on this drama and rant and rave which then drags everyone else into the toxic stew of misinformation with the spread of FUD (Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt). As long as I can fly the Strike Eagle, I will and I will make and post videos of the fun times I have in it. I make these videos for myself mainly and share them hoping to be able to help others and maybe entertain people. People are free to stop buying stuff from Eagle Dynamics and to boycott whatever they wish. I don't worry about them and wish them well. :)

To those who share a house with someone who's less enthused about flight simming I highly recommend getting some vibration isolation mounts (bobbins I think they're called - the ones you put under washing machines) to isolate the part you're adding the transducers to and the rest of the rig. My pucks are on the lumbar support and bottom cushion of my seat and I've added these isolators between the seat and the rig and it massively reduces any vibration "escaping". I've ordered some extra in case I want to turn the settings up further and I'll then add these to my simrigs mounting feet. For ref I'm using the NLR Military rig

Originally, The Jet Seat was what I considered to be near perfect but it was not very strong (but much better than the HF8) so I put the ButtKicker back on and only used it for weapons release, gun fire, cat shots, landing and some stuff like ground roll bumps and it was a killer combination. I got the left/ right, legs/back positional effects and the "oomph" from the Butt Kicker. The Bass Shakers are much better than the Butt Kicker and like I said, might be good enough on their own (with a left and right side). Even if a person uses just one, I think it's a terrific system. Hi! Some times I will do the Picture in Picture type of video where I set up my iPhone on a tripod to capture how I fly with the PointCTRL finger controllers in my simpit. The audio recording on the iPhone can be synchronized with the audio from my microphone on my headset via a snap of my fingers (I usually snap twice and cough). I find this sound on both recordings and mark it in my editing software. I can then use it to synchronize using audio and the mark point as the start and it then adjusts the two using the rest of my talking and noises etc. It then generates a synchronized clip with both recordings on it. I can then resize and position one of them to achieve the effect. I also use 6 audio tracks in my video recording of DCS using virtual audio cables (I made a video demonstrating how I make DCS videos where I show this) for stuff like game, voice attack, SRS headset mic, etc. For video editing software, I use Final Cut Pro which is a Mac only program from Apple.

@@StrIIker-TV Thanks Strikes🙏Watching it now actually. I'm interested in your video section. I just bought a nice Emeet 4K cam & was so impressed with the quality & value for money I got another one. Beautiful images, crisp & clear but now the hard part is to try & get one to record throttle & stick & my set up & one capturing myself flying as well. I tried SplitCam which gives a great image but soon as I start flying the image slows & suffers. Trying to record DCS in sim footage & both 4K cams working simultaneously is tricker than I thought. Never used OBS before, so I'm studying that now. Been using Ge Force all these years but the 4K quality cam is wasted in the Shadow Play overlay, doesn't cut it. Thanks again kindly Strikes, I'll keep watching.

@@GazAce I’m glad to be able to help! What might be key is to record the cam footage to a separate device, either local to the camera (if storage is available) or to a separate PC and then you need software which supports multi-cam editing. You could easily sync them up manually and then resize the top video to a window over the bottom video. I add translucency as a personal taste. I had tried the nvidia capture but eventually went with OBS as it offered a lot more choices and flexibility. Keep me posted! I’d love to see what you wind up with.

Hi very useful video! Wanted to ask if those fingerlifts at 5:33 can also be used as rudder. I have the vkb evo premium but I don't feel comfortable having a twisting stick. So was thinking to lock it and use stecs as throttle and rudder.
@StrIIker-TV
@StrIIker-TV Месяц назад
Hello! Yes they can be used as a rudder (sort of). They are treated as buttons and so can't by default be configured for a rudder. You can use the VKB configuration software and define them as a sort of virtual axis with each press equaling some amount of axial movement. You would also want to bind something to zero the axes as well. Example: Configuring the action of pressing the left finger lift equals 3 units of movement on that axis so requiring more deflection in that direction requires multiple presses. Need to adjust to the right? Press the right finger lift. Gone too far and need to recenter? Press something else (or even define pressing both as equal to zero). I think you can also define pressing and holding as a repeat button press at a configurable rate but I am not 100% certain of this. Someone in the comments on this or most likely the followup video I made had asked this very question. I went to the VKB forums and asked there and I received a quick response which I essentially shared here. It's not something which I have done myself though.

All u need are a bunch of dummy switches, buttons and knobs to build a mock interface panel(s). Absolutely Brilliant idea! Add motion platform and you won't loose your positioning of the panels too easily as the mock controls would really give ya something to grasp during clutch moments. Bravo!! Subscribed <S>!
@StrIIker-TV
@StrIIker-TV Месяц назад
Thanks! I have considered doing the mock panels etc but to be honest, I don't think it would add anything to the overall experience. After a couple of years of using PointCTRL, I am definitely happy with the panel in front. I have discovered also, that for the Hornet and Strike Eagle which are my current aircraft which I fly in DCS, I don't need the side panels, just something to mount the throttle on as when I look down to the sides, I just point with my hand in the air. I do so little on the sides that it's not an issue. The front one does make a difference for me as I interact with it constantly while flying and maneuvering against enemy. I do still give serious thought to getting something which has actual buttons to try. There's someone who sells an upfront controller for the Strike Eagle (and other jets) and has a version for VR with some textured buttons to be able to figure out where you are pointing. www.etsy.com/listing/1367882636/dcs-world-f-15e-strike-eagle-ufc?variation0=3328509902 People in VR who don't have PointCTRL really like it. I wonder how useful it would be though for me. If anything, I do more interactions in the Hornet and the MFD's than I would with the UFC and same with the Strike Eagle so it may have limited use. I've also heard from others who originally had the MFD frames from Thrustmaster before getting a PointCTRL and they have all stopped using them. They did try for a while to keep them and use the buttons but they found PointCTRL just worked well enough to no longer worry about finding them end pressing etc. A motion platform is definitely on my wishlist and I hope to get one some day.

@@StrIIker-TV I Truly Appreciate the depths you fathom in your reply and taking the time...I like your approach in using the blank board w/ VR...I never would have considered that essentially a "blank skate" could become interactive enough to create a sense of emersion on the cheap...my suggestion was that if you decided to go with a motion platform that could jostle your interactive environment (smooth surface) perhaps place some appropriate "feel" button, knobs and switches that you could use as sort of braille to stabilize your selections in the event of a jink or other like manuver where a motion platform may not allow you the precision to avoid "fat thumbing" a button while rolling or pitching. U could sorce some 70's style radio receivers or even several old push-button phones if you wanted something that wouldn't feel like a dissected keyboard in random locations. I was considering actual replica 1:1 scale panels but id consider them useless in VR as you've proven by completely bypassing the functioning panels altogether. Granted most of the H.O.T.A.S. attributes make some switch panels A. Redundant or B. Unnecessary but if your 98% satisfied now my guess is yould be at 99% by adding motion and 100% by adding some actual mock up switches. Again you've proven nothing would have to function as far as spending hundreds in replica panels. Again Bravo!! You just helped some of us decide if we want panels w/o VR or VR w/o panels. Looks like VR+Motion wins vs Motion and no VR. Cheers!!

I use it non stop. In fact, I bought a second one so I have it incase my main one dies and I need to send it off for repairs. I can't fathom flying DCS without it. It's one of the must have devices in my opinion. In all of my videos from DCS, I am using it. I still occasionally do the small window showing me use it. I don't do it all the time because it's a pain to edit the sync video at times. I think this is my most recent video in which you can see me using it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gWxrynTIfSA.html It is so natural to use and yet it makes such a huge difference. The great thing is that I saved a ton of money not buying MFD frames, button boxes, etc. to try to use in VR. I just move my hand to where I want to press something, and the cursor is there! So simple and so incredible.

You mentioned that stuttering at the end of your video and it caught my attention. I have that occasionally but i didnt know the AGR thing. I noticed that if I was in Auto mode, that switching to CDIP semmed to correct mine also but it might return when i went back to auto (50/50). I like your fix better because it seems permanent.
@StrIIker-TV
@StrIIker-TV Месяц назад
Yeah, AGR will kick in when you are in auto or when in CDIP and have the HUD in command. I need to double check the specific instances which trigger AGR. I did the same thing and swapped out of auto mode (I think I left it in auto mode or something when I was about to land for some reason). As I got lower while flying in the landing pattern, the stuttering started I at first thought it was OBS (the software I use to record the videos) so I stopped recording (which is why the end is all external shots from a track replay.. which I actually liked). The stuttering persisted so I fiddled with modes, probably turned on the air search radar and stuttering stopped (but I didn't know why). A day or so later, I was on a low level ingress for a loft attack and figured I'd enable AGR by taking command of the hud and immediately the stuttering started.. I quickly switched modes and then back to auto for the loft and all was fine for the attack (and I nailed the SAM site). I think I recorded that mission as well.. One possible solution is to decrease the core count dedicated to the radar in the Special settings for the Strike Eagle. I have mine maxed (I think it's 6?) but I have a beefy CPU so it SHOULD be fine. I might try decreasing it.
@StrIIker-TV
@StrIIker-TV Месяц назад
Okay so AGR kicks in automatically.. Here's the excerpt from the manual... The AGR mode provides slant range measurement for target altitude determination, target designation or position updates. This mode cannot be selected and is commanded automatically every time the CC determines that a slant range is necessary for proper designation or weapons delivery. It is worth noting that AGR mode interrupts other radar mode operations in progress and should be carefully monitored by the aircrew. These will be described in other sections of this manual, however below one can find a list of such instances: 1. During MAP / NAV AUTO weapon delivery in A/G Master Mode, slant range measurement is required for the last 15 seconds prior to weapon release. 2. During targeting pod designation when laser is not armed or not operational, the CC will use AGR provided that the radar was cued to the targeting pod LOS. To manually exit the AGR mode, the aircrew needs to take command of A/A or A/G radar display. However, this is not possible when slant range is being measured in AUTO weapon delivery as described in point 1.
