DCT - SKIP IT 🤯 🤨 ON THE NEW GOLDWING Motorcycle

The optional 6 speed manual on the Honda
Gold-Wing is superior to the DCT
transmission when it comes to a more immersive and authentic motorcycle rider experience. Utterly smooth shifting, and most likely longer lasting than a DCT as well.

I am a clutch user for 30 years now. I never ever thought for a second that DCT will be acceptable. The regular GW shifts so nicely, no doubts, however testing the DCT got me so hooked trying it first time ever, I could not refused contract one. The ride is unreal for me. I honestly don't see myself going back to clutch. I can not explain.

Exactly i still have my m109r and vtx1800 but this dct is just on another level, it honestly reminds me of my bmw M3 dct you can let the bike do the shifting in bumper to bumper traffic then switch to manual control and up and down shift yourself on twisty roads.

You will enjoy the GW, as far as the Manual or DCT, I say pick the one you like the most and go with it. I prefer the DCT I purchased. I too came from HD, good bikes, but I needed a change, never looking back. I thought the same thing about the maneuvers, however, after some practice with the throttle and brake, I have it down to turning around within 18 feet or less and that is only after less than a year of riding the bike. Nice to see some others from Michigan on here, can't wait for the weather to break again, riding season is almost upon us and I am ready to go. Keep it safe out there on the road. Hope your trip to Florida works out for ya.

Thank you We had sought the DCT as well initially, the price of this 2018 with 6 speed had us. DCT or manual they are all great. We do not see much on the 6 speed version, and possible a few may consider it now. Yes, the DCT is very popular for good reason.

@moose3971

@@danthechippie4439 I prefer it yes. But it really depends on your riding style, what you are looking for. HD has its heritage, nice cruising bike, where as a he GW handles better, good for curves and straits. Seating position is different. My knees tend to hurt a bit more on the GW, where as, the seating position of the Ultra I had my legs were bent less. The HD has better paint and plastics (fiber glass) the GW scratches a bit easier. I say if possible, ride both for a decent distance.

I rode both the dct and the manual, I preferred the manual the dct was weird felt like it shifted a lot and took some of the fun out of it. Like driving an automatic Porsche or Ferrari I would never buy a sports car with an automatic. I know several people that bought this bike and then traded out to get other bikes their reasons were it was a great bike but felt like driving a civic. They wanted more of that visceral feeling you get with a traditional bike like a big V twin and I get that going from a FJR to a Raider.

@@tonys-travels-2023 I'm really not sure about the comfort of the goldwing. I know that is what it was designed for, but that doesn't mean it is actually the most comfortable. I actually owned a honda cruiser before and my butt hurt so bad I would have to rest my tailbone on the edge of the passenger seat after about 30 minutes. I know from personal experience that feet forward is more comfortable than the position of the feet on the goldwing. But I am not able to test drive/sit on a goldwing. And obviously in the looks department the rocket 3 and ducati xdiavel s completely blow the goldwing out of the water. The prices are similar across all three models. So if I can get a rocket or diavel with its looks and fun factor (both important) AND they had superior comfort (make use of aftermarket windscreens, corbin seats, etc) then that seems like a better choice. That said, without comfort nothing else matters because I won't want to sit on it. All of that 'stuff' on the huge dashboard can easily be replaced by a phone mount and an apple homepod mini (which runs on usb c power, presumably all these bikes have 12v accessory ports into which a 12v usb c adapter could be plugged into).
@tonys-travels-2023
@tonys-travels-2023 3 года назад
Depends what you plan to use it for. For sure in the “looks department” my new rocket blows the gold wing out of the water. I’d be stupid not to agree. Phone, I’ve got a 12v socket. I’ve got headset in my helmet. But... mile munching and comfort? Best I’ve ever had in 46 years of biking. DCT? It’s phenomenal. I rode back from Poland in one day 1200 miles... yes, long day.... but no problem whatsoever. Likewise back from Zurich, Switzerland.. easy short trip by comparison. Surround sound, say Nav, heated seats, heated grips, electronic adjust suspension, air bag, hill descent, cruise control... can’t even recall all of it. If I had “too choose”... it would be a wing. Great about town... no problem whatsoever. In the right hands? Don’t underestimate how it GOES! Various ride modes etc. Put it in sport, with the “best Nike engine on the planet”..... you’ll give the kids a ride for their money. Goes like a nuclear missile. Not (not) too be underestimated. But, and a big but.... everyone has their choice, moreover “their needs” It’s a lot of £ notes. But when you move from a wing to say a “rocket 111”... you realise what you pay for. Cheers, all the best. Happy biking. PS Just had my rocket “super cleaned and “ceramic coated”.... looks fabulous. PS If you go rocket 111, don’t waste money as I did buying panniers. They look right on the bike, but no bigger than a ladies hand bag. Not even “water proof”.... and stupid money

I'm planning on buying a new HGWT; - DCT? Nope. I bought my 1st motorized 2-wheeled vehicle >45 years ago, & the 1st 2 were mopeds, getting me to college & local job & back. DCT, regardless of the benefits, would remind me too much of them, & to me at least, turn it into an 850 lb. moped. I've rented 2 HGWT for a total of 10 days, & both were the manual shift version. IMO, shifting is an integral & immersive part of motorcycling. The DCT would remove some control & feeling of being 1 with the bike. Not to mention, that the DCT version is more expensive, heavier, & I've heard of it being more difficult to control in low speed, esp cornering. I also think, more likely to need expensive & specialized repairs. I think that the jury is still out on any difference in fuel mileage. Bottom line, buy what you love, love what you ride, & do it often & safely.

Even after that correction, the bike still "clanks" into most gears. My bike will not downshift in top gear when twisting the throttle. The other thing is that it is both easy and direct-“easy” meaning no need to use a clutch in slow traffic, no chance of stalling, no bashing helmets with a pillion; “direct” being the speed of the gear change, the ability to use the triggers, and, as I mentioned, to concentrate purely on your riding.

Fuel door release on wrong side of bike ? Almost no fairing storage ? OEM seat is like a brick ? Wind management due to less fairing protection ? Along with all the other problems this bike had from redesign. Why is it that Honda removed 10% of the bike only for its customers to purchase that 10% aftermarket. @@OnDownTheRoadProductions I don't remember exactly, it was probably so high , to be able to hear anything, then a volume jump or the intro was way loud and other spots too hard to hear, don't remember exactly, what were we talking about// :) Thank god Honda still sells a choice, and you can still get a clutch, Goldwings imv are the finest bikes ever produced, especially as a long range tourer, and so much better looking than other touring bikes.
