For me, I enjoy this type of video the most I think. When you just cruise around and show off the beautiful English countryside (I'm American). I also really enjoy the Biker Scran videos. And for what it's worth, I enjoy your calm, mature, dare I say professional approach to your dialogue. In other words no shouting, obnoxious "shock factor" nonsense

The Goldwing is a fantastic piece of motorcycle engineering, and it's appropriate that you highlight it this year, as it's now the 50th anniversary of its introduction in 1974. I rode one of the old 1500cc models back in the 90's and it was a great experience. I imagine the latest models are even better. I don't really do long distance touring, but I'd still love a bagger model if I could afford one.

Hi Andy, my wife and I have ridden the Grossglockner two up, twice on our old Pan European ST 1100 without any issues. Admittedly not as heavy as your Wing but still a big bike. Would be a pity not to do it as it’s truly spectacular. TOP TIP. Zel am See is the nearest town, stay there, get up early and get it done before the crowds arrive!! Keep up the good work my friend. 😊

Andy: Your European tour on the Goldwing sounds great….if I had my time again I’d get one but as I’m 81 I’ll stick with my VFR! Someone in the comments suggested that maybe DCT turned people off; I wonder if they’ve ever ridden one. A couple of years ago I bought my first automatic car (a Volvo XC40) after 60 years of manual’s….wish I’d had one much sooner, so relaxing to drive especially in a busy city where you can focus on avoiding cyclists, electric scooters and pedestrians (I live in Cambridge!). I’m assuming a DCT bike is a more relaxing experience, not only in cities but when long distance touring too. Really enjoyed this video, so relaxing with the smooth engine note too. More Goldwing posts please.

My wife and I both enjoy watching the tour videos, and I think we made our way through all of them over the winter. She wants us to get a Gold Wing so she can enjoy the ride too. My old 1998 Honda Shadow 750 ACE was not very passenger friendly, and I don't think I'll be taking anyone with me on the new Versys 650, unless I magically grow a couple of inches. My son and I took our bikes to Twillingate this morning, where I got to break in my new TMF neck tube. A wonderful addition to my riding gear. Looking forward to your next video!

Great bike Andy, I honestly think if money were no object I'd have one too! I see Guy Martin has a bagger version, he knows a thing or two about bikes as we all know! Cheers matey, ride safe! Fingers crossed re the weather. Best way to clean the bike screen(or car windscreen), get a clean microfibre cloth, preferably large enough to cover the whole screen, run it under a warm tap, wring out the excess then just hang it over the screen for ten, fifteen mins, this rehydrates the dead insects and they wipe off very easily with another microfibre cloth, kitchen towel can actually scratch the acrylic!

Nice one Andy. Thank you young sir. Interestingly a good friend of mine has recently purchased one of these with the goal of “slowing down”. I was fortunate to take it for a ride up and down what Melbourne based people would call the best roads for two wheels. Refton Spur and the Black Spur. Must say this reaches its limits quicker than anything else I’ve ever ridden in 46 years. So, we decided to book it in for a ride day at Phillip Island (my old home racetrack, which I have PB’s on several bikes. I must say it was an interesting experience as you can ride anything around the racetrack. I deliberately asked to be put in the beginner group hoping my 15 years of racing would help to negate this behemoth of a machine and although we knew it couldn’t corner at speed, not be ridden with a fast in and out approach (you need lean angle for either method), the end lap times, were better than expected. Could only get 2 “quick” laps out of it until the brakes turned into mashed potatoes. However, if anyone wants to just tick the box of being able to leisurely riding around a top course then it really doesn’t matter what you’re capable of doing. Just enjoy and ride free.

I have the exact same model/color. Earler this year, with the wife on the back, we did the Sydney to Tasmania return trip and the Goldwing ate up the 5000ks there and back with absolute ease. For those that dont know Tasmania there is barely a straight road to be seen and has, by far, the best riding roads in Australia. Our lap of the island took in as many winding roads as I could fit in and the bike took everthing I could throw at it without an issue. It handles the twistys incredibly well considering its size, great fun. Look forward to hearing about your exploits on yours.

Splendid little vlog! That bike is phenomenal. I used to have a ‘77 GL 1000 back in the late 90s. It was superb, even then. Yep, my top for cleaning a screen after a long ride in the summer (if we ever get one this year) when its covered in dead flies is drape a damp tea towel over it when you get back for an hour or so, then they just wipe off. Easy. You can also do it with the visor on your helmet as well.

Hi Andy. Glad the shoulder recovery is going well, and that you're able to handle the wing. I looked at a similar summer trip myself, but circumstances and logistics have delayed it slightly. With the Olympics and then the football, I've opted for late August early September. Dolomites, Switzerland, Germany and the B500 on the way home. It'll be good to see your trip. Have a good one, and it's better to get bird poo on the screen than on your jacket. It's so much easier to wipe off. Thx G

Sorry a bit late to the party with a comment. Very much looking forward to another tour series. The more info you can provide regarding the practicalities of touring abroad the better ( from my point of view) As someone who has only toured in the UK and not yet ventured abroad being able to pick up hints and tips on riding in Europe as well as being entertained would be the perfect mix. 👍🏍

I always liked what Regular cars said about these bikes - (I paraphrase) - it’s so smooth, so fast and so well built, it almost gets away from motorcycles are about. Truly the Gold standard of motorcycles .. Absolutely love them. Might try one, one day, I just can’t seem to wrench myself from the Blackbird at the moment. Nice... I have given up on my favorite bike. Never thought I would like a GS. Also too much of a hype... I always ride old, relatively cheap stuff so I do not have to worry about depreciation and can get rid off it without much financial pain. Found out a CBR600 was way too fast for me. Traded it for a 1150GS... Within a few miles I loved the GS. My RT is now for sale... Was also able to buy a Aprilia maxi scooter with a problem for very little money. Solved problem. It rides quite nice, very smooth on especially the back lanes and in town... And then there is a 4th gen VFR. Actually my second. Had one, traded it, missed it and got another one. 28 years old, 60K miles. Recommissioned it. Looks like new. Perhaps my favorite? Who knows?

I can absolutely recommend the Großglockner 2-up fully loaded on the GW. I guess due to the tolls, this road is immaculately maintained. Predictable, wide and well-marked with no really nadgery stuff. We thoroughly enjoyed it last year. The views are stunning as well as the ride. The Stelvio is something else altogether. We also rode that and spent time trickling the Wing through double-back hairpins, trailing rear brake against the throttle in the tightest ones to keep the DCT locked in. Very rewarding but concentration levels on broken, busy, technical roads not really enjoyable on such a long, heavy bike. This year, Dolomites were scuppered in early June by heavy rain with snow! We'll try again next year! Enjoy the trip!

Good to see the wing again, the wife and I are currently doing the Wild Atlantic Way on our RT, couldn’t stretch to a wing, and frankly the 287kg BMW is too much for me anyway at times. Stayed in a hotel in Cobh that had a deep gravel car park and it was a real struggle to keep it upright.

I've enjoyed your past tour videos and look forward to seeing your next one. Hope your GS is not getting jealous. Have watched and read a lot of reviews about Gold Wings. They usually start out with the author saying it's an old man's bike......that is until they whack the throttle open and ride one.

Interesting video again TMF, well done. Having done both the Grossglockner and the Stelvio pass on my RT two up you may well struggle on them with the Goldwing, especially ascending. I think the DCT may be the issue, last thing you want to do is stall mid corner. Your call of course.

Love your videos on the Goldwing, and definitely a one trick pony. But one that does it brilliant. Always said that if ever I got rid of the car and went solely on two wheels (Mrs H obviously had the final say) lol, the Goldwing would of been my go to choice. Yes, add the radar cruise control, but don't think I'd add anything else. Can't wait to see your next European tour on this bike.

A tip for cleaning your visor is kitchen towel damp over it for 5 min all bug's melt away no scratches.

Good evening, Mr Flyer! Really nice to get a Gold Wing video again. As for your European tour, I never could never quite get that whole Limey B500 fixation. It is a nice enough road but heavily crowded and even more heavily policed. It is a ridge road and the by far better bits all all the small curvy lanes leading up to it from the surrounding valleys. As a matter of fact I know several dozen Black Forest roads I would choose over the B500. Lake Constance is really good (if a bit crowded in Summer) with a motorbike, particularly if you take the surrounding regions into account like the Black Forest, the upper Danube valley, the Bregenzer Wald and Appenzell. Liechtenstein isn't much to write home about in itself but Appenzell (see above) is just on the other side of the Rhine. But Liechtenstein is directly en route from Lake Constance to the Stelvio and you will be passing through Heidi country. Stelvio itself is well worth the trip, however you should be careful what time you do it on what day. Early Saturday afternoon is usually a bad idea. But it is unlikely you could do worse on the Wing than all the GS riders you can see on YT. The Dolomites are absolutely breathtaking but have been totally overrun by tourists so that the local authorities plan to implement a road access by ticket system. Again, avoid the weekends. Personally, I am not a fan of the Glockner road but I guess you have to do it once in your live. It should be mandatory for climate change deniers. And you should definitely do the Mangart road once you are in the area. Oh, and sorry to hear your shoulder still isn't all okay. I suppose physio and gym already is the order of the day?

Highly recommend the route... Black forest, lake Constance zelum-zee, gross glokner, over and down into Italy. Can't say whether you would struggle on the Goldwing - but to be honest, it would be difficult to avoid the hairpins and twisties on ANY of those routes over the Alps. It is riding heaven!

@TheGraltons Месяц назад
The main thing I miss from the k1600 is the riding position I felt more part of the bike. The wider width of the wing makes me feel a bit more on top of the bike rather than part of it. Only done 2k so far but taking it to Spain at the end of summer with the boss so will have to adapt
