A: The new controller can't sacrifice Phlage. The other ability is unaffected.

In Boros, you could run Strict Proctor. You'd have to pay 2 if you want the ETB, but you'd still have a 6/6 that throws out a Lightning Helix every time it swings.

@@seanheath4492 That or doorkeeper thrall / torpor orb. Yes, you will miss out on the lightning helix, however it is still a 3 mana 6/6 with attack trigger
@seanheath4492
@seanheath4492 21 день назад
@@jaceg810 I prefer Strict Proctor, since it gives you the option to get the ETB trigger if you have the mana to spare. But you're right, anything that would block ETB would work.

Interesting how changing controllers in this instance prevents the sacrifice, but changing the controller of an evoke spell doesn't. I assume it's the additive text to evoke that says it's "controller sacrifices it" which would apply regardless who owns the triggered ability.

I believe so. I will also add though that I'm this case you only get to keep it because it changed controller after the spell resolved. If you instead gained control of the spell (perhaps with invert polarity), then Phlage would enter under your control so you would control the trigger and have to sac it.

Same reason Grafted Wargear doesn't work as well in my Ardenn, Intrepid Archeologist deck as I first thought.

This weekend I had an interesting Volatile Stormdrake situation come up. This was a 4 player game, so I had 3 opponents. I had Panharmonicon and a Virtue of Knowledge on the field and played a Volatile Stormdrake. Imagine I target a different opponent's creature for each trigger. Alice's Alpine Grizzly, Bob's Bear Cub, and Gabby's Grizzly Bear. Triggers are in that order with the one targeting Alice on bottom. Who ends up with what permanents and who has to pay energy or sacrifice things?
@ericbarr734
@ericbarr734 21 день назад
I think the answer is: I end up with Grizzly Bear, Gabby gets Bear Cub, Bob gets Alpine Grizzly, and Alice gets the Stormdrake. I also think I end up with +12 energy and Bob and Gabby keep their new creatures because I can't sacrifice them. I can pay 2 to keep the Grizzly Bear.
@seandun7083
@seandun7083 21 день назад
That should be correct. The exchange is only cancelled if Stormdrake is no longer on the battlefield and to exchange control you swap who currently controls it. Then for the same reasons as this video you control the triggers so get the energy but can't sac their creatures.

If I have a Forsaken Monument, colorless creatures and I do something with Convoke, tapping a creature pays for 1 or for 2?
@seandun7083
@seandun7083 21 день назад
Tapping a creature to convoke a spell is an alternate method to pay for something, it doesn't actually add any mana. It will still only pay for 1

She gets 3 life, but then doesn't she also get the 3 damage to kill the drake/whatever too?
@namename8004

Can't target drake. Target is chosen when the ability is put on the stack. Drake exchange will also happen before Phlage's ability resolves. So at that point, Amy would just be killing her own creature if it were even possible to change the target.
