Never tried stand development but the results look good! Fomapan 100 and 400 are my favourite film stocks so get the most use. Foma 100 in ID11 stock or 1+1 for 135 and Rodinal for 120 to me is the classic look. 400 I rate at about 250 in ID11, like the grain on that and it has a very 70's photo journalistic look. 100 Can build up contrast rather quick so have to be careful with agitation, when I started it was like Tom Cruise in Cocktail lol

100 in stand is a very solid option with very controlled contrast.

Hey Steve, I've tried your DD-X stand dev technique to push some Tmax 400 to 3200. Usually I'm happy with the Tmax Dev at 1+4 for 12minutes in 24°C for the low key scenes I shot : surprisingly good tonality, less grain than a Tri-x and highlights well preserved at 3200 iso. But 45 minutes stand dev with DD-X you sure get the speed boost but with some crazy burnt highlights in 35mm. Then I tried with Foma 100 in 120. Same thing : almost unrecoverable highlight most of the times. After that I tried Tmax dev at 1+19 for 1 hour at 24°C. From my test strips I'm a stop away from what I use to get with that dev at 1+4. So I guess 1h at 1+9 shoot do the trick. Anyway, even though I found different results than your's I'm glad your channel triggered me into trying new dev things !

If the highlights are blown try metering for the highlights and let the shadows fall would Be my suggestion if you want to continue to experiment… happy shooting!

@@FIGITALREVOLUTION Thanks Steve. Sadly for the type of lighting I get for live music event I won't jeopardize my roll and the metering at 3200 iso I know works great at 1+4 with Tmax Dev and OK with DDX - If only shadows could have the same boost as the highlights, exposing for the latter would be an option. That said, that burn highlights boost is a common thing I see with all the non Ilford stocks I used the DDX with in 35mm, even at 1+4, that were shot in anything but dimed or dark lighting. It's perhaps too good or effective, but definitely too expensive compared to Tmax or Xtol. But the best to make Delta 400 in 120 shine ! But since I'm more of a Kodak guy...

@@Thorpal if I’m worried about highlights and in your shooting situation I get it I always use a compensating developer like Diafine or Divided D23 or 510 Pyro at 1:500- I actually find I use Diafine for most of my work as it is always a mixed bag with exposures on a roll. Tmax 400 has pretty much a perfect straight line for its curve beyond zone 3 so a Xtol 1:1 pushed to 1600 would be amazing- did this years ago in Puerto Rico and it was spot on.
@Thorpal
@Thorpal 2 года назад
@@FIGITALREVOLUTION Thanks Steve, I'll try Xtol soon. I was wondering if there was a significant advantage to use it at 1+1 instead of undiluted. Because at 3200 the dev times rise significantly from one to the other... I read you get speed boost with 1+1 but by how much according to your experience ? Did you try FX39 too?
@FIGITALREVOLUTION
@FIGITALREVOLUTION 2 года назад
@@Thorpal there is a speed boost, about 1/2 a stop but also more visible grain. I’ve worked out to 1:3 which has nice compensation qualities but found 1:1 or Stock was my favorite.

Thanks. I used this method with HP5+ rated at 1600 and it looks very good. I never liked Foma film but now I have to try it again with this development. Can't wait (and the price is 3.9 euro here)

Thank you so much, I really enjoy watching these film/development videos, and I agree with your selection , although I’m getting some promising results with Fomapan 400 rated ISO 200 in 510 pyro 1+500 semi stand 80 mins.

@@nicknick099 I think I used 500ml, and the developer was zone imaging 510 pyro, but I would recommend making your own tests first.

Steve you were right about Fomapan 400 at 1600-3200. Meh. What are your thoughts for HP5+ at 1600-3200. I only have DDX. Regular development or would it survive stand development? Thanks FW

Will definitely survive and thrive on the DDX stand I did here - 1600 would defidently work

Hey Steve! Have you looked at the new developer from Flic Film - "Black White and Green"? they've taken the same active of ingredients as Xtol, but managed to create an HC110-alike concentrate syrup that can be mixed for one shot development. I'm about to give it a go in the Jobo. I'm really excited for this stuff as I liked using Xtol but I dislike powders and that you have to mix 5L batches up front. BWG is cheaper than DD-X too, 65% cheaper per roll. Cost is not a priority for me, but just worth mentioning that it's not expensive. Cheers!

Finer grain with fast films is one thing and in most cases cleaner processing BUT I do love Rodinal….

Fompan 400 is hard as it does not push great-- try an hour as I doubt much will happen after that. There is another option- I’ll do a post on it this week - thanks for making me think of it-- stay tuned!

@@FIGITALREVOLUTION Hey Steve, if I stand process for an hour will there be any issues with the chemistry not moving for so long? I'm using a 2 reel paterson tank. Thanks, FW
@FIGITALREVOLUTION
@FIGITALREVOLUTION 5 месяцев назад
No- just be sure to do a pre wet- I found issues with the Patterson tanks for stand as the reels are very tight and can cause issues with some films- stainless is best or large JOBO Reels.
