Hi Everybody, thank you for watching! Let me know if you agree these products are dead and we wont see them again or will they be brought back to life at retail in the future?
Brilliant video (and spot-on, too). Also, there's a common thread, here, Michael B... products that don't look/feel like real arcade cabinets will flop. Period. I don't know how many years it will take (and how many people saying it) for Tastemakers to get this. Give us arcade-authentic products at a reasonable price and they'll sell. Give us other stuff and they'll fail. What do they say about doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results? Yeah... guess no one at Tastemakers has ever heard this.
Great discussion as always Michael, love watching your videos. I like the ideas Arcade1Up has and the things they try, but they normally screw everything up somehow and use cheaper materials but in the end, I feel that their price points are just so ridiculous for what is being sold, a lot ends up failing.
"Price too high, parts too cheap" seems to be the most common, consistent issue with every Arcade1up product, but it hits these gimmicky failed ideas the hardest.
I would agree with your assessment. As you probably noticed, the ones that you did bite on were on clearance, otherwise you wouldn't have been interested.
What they need to do is release some gameroom wall art for licenses they have like those battery operated Pac Man and Ghost lights they released a few years back. Maybe some neon Posters, Glow in the Dark wall light up deco like those Hulk, Iron Man and Batman kids night lights where they are bursting through the wall but perhaps iconic arcade game characters instead like Scorpion, Ryu, Frogger, Centipede etc. so many of us have game rooms and spend so much trying to accommodate the ambience of an arcade room but have limited selections of what we can put up.
btw, your 80's saved by the bell triangles, dots, bars on graph paper, swatch watch looking background... i think i had a trapper keeper in jr.high that looked like that. i still have a miami vice folder somewhere!!!
Great video as always! I agree with your views except the pub table and the Infinity game table. I believe both of those products can be revamped to make them more worth it and add value to the form factors. Sadly, the only one I own is the console boxes. I definitely was interested in the joysticks and couchcades but after the reviews, I lost my will to open my wallet. 😎
The Pong Table I have still and people love it. It is one of the things friends usually come over to play. The Problem with the pong table was not having a Demo in the Stores and I will say it needed more games on it.
Soooo much wasted effort (and money) on these doomed products from the start... After that, some will still argue that a Track & Field cab would not sale! ;)
It's hard for me to root for Arcade 1Up when they have such a lock on licencing on so many games I'd like to see in iiRcade (or AtGames arcade machines for those who have them).
Are you planning to do a review of the Pong pub table Mike? The form factor is terrific but the lineup of titles on this unit isn't very compelling. Arkanoid would have been more of a draw.
Common theme - low quality products. I picked up the Pacman TV thing on a Black Friday deal when it dropped to $20 and if you eliminate the controller and instead hookup arcade controls, it actually makes a whole lot of sense but of course Arcade1Up has ZERO idea what the word "Quality" means. I wouldn't be surprised if the initial engineering project is absolutely awesome and then they go and strip it down and find the cheapest vendors using the cheapest quality and wind up with a worthless result. Something like the Projector-cade COULD have been a good idea with a nice, bright short-throw projector, but when you use a crappy projector...
Fantastic video… I’m so sad the Pong pub table didn’t make it. I bet if A1Up partnered with Target and made one with Pac man legacy as you said it would sell like hotcakes for $600. Anyway. Some great unique items. Makes me want them all. The Polaroid photo booth was a stretch I’m afraid 😂👾 but hey, they tried. A+ buddy!
My thoughts on these things in order. 1. Yeah when I first saw these THINGS! I was thinking. Specifically at the second one "Why buy this when there's other options that are likely gonna function better out there?" And the saddest part is. There are TWO Mega Man arcade games (Power Battles & Power Fighters) Which have as of June 6th, 2022, only been re-released on the 6th gen Mega Man Anniversary Collection. 2. Didn't know this existed. Also worried that this part will cause this vid to get age restricted. 3. Ashamed to see something charming like this bomb. 4. Second verse same as the first with my thoughts on the last entry. 5. Yeah. While this seems like a cute novelty. It does seem redundant with how common smartphones with built in cameras are. 6. Having seen MyLifeInGaming's video on gaming with projectors. I find it EXTREMELY sad that Arcade1UP dropped the ball with this product. 7. Again Never heard of this. But yeah, it looks dumb and silly. 8. Yeah. When I saw these things, I was like "Why do these things exist?" they look so cheap. Not sure if they'd do 100 US but I can see them being released at 150 US. 9. It looks cool. But I agree. Not interesting enough to me. 10. I knew this was a thing and looked cheap. But console ROMs? What were they smoking when they came up with these THINGS? Overall good video to me on a sad topic.
Pretty sure the excess inventory of those pacman and Mega man consoles are being reused in the Couchcades ! ( Adding the couchcade wireless controller o the other end and using the old consoles to hook up to the TV )
Not gonna lie i was interested in the photo booth thing for the arcade room. Never got to a price that I considered reasonable tho. Same goes for the Infinity.
This is why A1UP should not be taken seriously. All the crap products they wasted money on, they could use on better quality A1Up parts for their regular cab.
I dislike A1up for one of the same reasons i dislike Zen, exclusivity bs is putting a hamper on my hobby! I can get around it with modding, but yeah... stop scooping up every arcade and pinball table! Other companies should be able to license these games and tables as well! It's some serious bs if you really stop and think about it. The ALP could have a TON of tables, but nope... Zen... they even gutted Pinball Arcade when they grabbed a ton of licenses from Stern and Bally. Like i said you can get around it but having plug and play options for quality content across a wide range of hardware would be ideal. A1up always looked too cheap and too childish with those risers, they remind me of the kids play chests we had back in the day lol. Cheap parts and then the prices went up. Never was, and likely never will be interested in their products so for me, they're just a pain in the ass who makes cheap products, overcharges and keeps good games away from good hardware like iiRcade and the ALU/ALP.
i know something that will make you happy... maybe... your a little on the young side,,, but your always talking about liking 80's games more than 90's.. but this is more like my era, EARLY 80's... Doughnut Dodo!! 4.99 iircade. released a couple of days ago on doughnut day. oh man this game is fun! surprised you havent made a video!!!
